So it's the Ravensburger Waltz for the next season. Classical or modern, which way do you think the skaters will go?

I personally would like to see something a bit more random like Queen - The Millionaires Waltz (although some editing may be required)

What do you guys have in mind, what would you like to see?

There's lots of music written in 3/4 time, so I'm hoping for some variety in the music teams choose for the SD next year. Along with that, I'll wish for some variety in costuming too. Nothing against the PD, but watching the SD this season could get a bit monotonous as many of the teams' music and costumes were so similar.

I'm down with the Ravensburger Waltz... can't wait for the paso doble season to be wrapping up.

I hope for some variety too. It's bad enough that we have to see so many similar paso doble's this year, so I would definitely appreciate a wider interpretation of this pattern dance.

Definitely looking for a good amount of variety. As humbaba said, there's a lot of music written in 3/4 time, so that opens a lot of doors (as far as the opportunity to be creative goes).

ETA: Since Worlds are in Boston next season, I think we can expect to see some American themes tie in to the music selections, right (American composers/music that has been popular here in the States)?

Here's hoping for variety!

Unfortunately, there is a waltz in both Phantom of the Opera and Les Mis.

This does not make me overly optimistic.

I personally want them to get rid of the compulsory elements of the short dance.

However, back to the short dance, i have never seen this compulsory before. is it as intricate as the golden waltz?

In the COP era, the Ravensburger was skated at the 2006 Olympics in Torino.

The technical info for the Ravensburger, which is to be skated as a Viennese Waltz, as is the Golden Waltz CD (and of course the Viennese Waltz CD).

What I want to see is that the tango is not one of the allowed rhythms for the non PD parts of the SD. When the Golden Waltz was in the SD, tangoes were allowed, and some of the wangoes that resulted were really awful.

I want to see of they are going to do with the keypoints. Are they going to split the dance into two segments or are they going to do the partial, step again.

Since the dance pattern is longer than the paso (which is really short), i am expecting thst they are going to break the dance into 2 parts.

What else?
Maybe a non touching serpentine step sequence?

I would love to see a non-touch serpentine step!. It would be Quite a Challenge for the dancers to keep consistent spacing throughout the sequence!

Thanks so much for posting all the Ravensburger Waltz dance programs. I chose Marina and Sergei because their son will be doing it this year. I know lots of rules have changed, and it's the SD not the Compulsory, but it will be fun to see how much Anthony and Christina will be influenced by his parents...besides, they're one of my favorite dance teams. I'm so psyched by the Waltz....can't wait for this year's rhythm to end.

You are correct....guess it was wishful thinking. I still loved his parents' skating. Actually I didn't watch them compete, but fell in love with them in Champions on Ice.

I'm horrible at figuring out what music fits which dance, but it's still kinda fun to come up with some. I have no idea if any of these are 3/4 time or the correct tempo, etc, quick internet search says they may fit, but I honestly have no idea. Just wanted to have some fun looking up music. Also, I'm not good at keeping up at what music has been used in the past or what has been done for exhibitions.

I Useta Love Her - Saw Doctors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNoJl4jjrSc
Evangeline Last Waltz - Emmylou Harris and The Band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOAT0AocD1c
Hold You in My Arms - Ray LaMontagne https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk9wK8CC0fQ
When You're Gone - The Cranberries https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUmdWdEgHgk
Sweet Baby James - James Taylor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXVg07t1HCE (This would go over well in Boston, we love us some James Taylor, hahaha)
Mr. Bojangles - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-LVXR6rjXs
She's Always A Woman - Billy Joel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4nQB3V10i8 (Marie-France Dubreuil & Patrice Lauzon did this in Stars on Ice 2006)

Some songs used on DWTS as Viennese Waltz that I like:
Locked Out of Heaven - Bruno Mars
I Wont Give Up - Jason Mraz
Angel - Sarah McLachlan
Satellite - Dave Matthews Band
This Year's Love - David Gray
Let It Be Me - Ray LaMontange
Tuesday's Gone - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Klimova had a little bobble in this particular dance but in the "burger" the lady does most of the tough stuff.

I'm really interested to see how they choose the key points, as usually it's split equally between the man & ladies's steps, but in this dance the man is mostly doing very straight forward swing rolls & 3 turns, while the ladies have to do a twizzle into a mohawk, a swing rocker & so on. That's the kind of thing you want the judges to be scrutinising, because I'd assume by the time they reach this stage all the guys are capable of doing a clean three turn, but then maybe it's unfairly marking one half of the team more than the other.
