This is a huge competition that sprawls over 4 rinks at the Aston Iceworks facility. Events include everything from No Test Pre-Preliminary to now an ISU Senior B competition.

The last couple of years, the senior events did not have as many competitors as in previous years, but the addition of the competition to the ISU official schedule means skaters can earn their ISU TES qualifying scores here. I expect more skaters will compete here again.

The last time I went to this competition, the only cost to attend was $10 for the program. The food stand served salads and a variety of sandwiches at reasonable prices.

You will need to book your hotel room as early as possible. Aston itself is rather rural, and hotels are not especially close to the rink. The closest hotel is likely booked full of skaters and their parents already.

It is not clear from the webpage that anything has changed from last year.

Just checking in myself to see if any competitors have been named. Still have relatives in Delaware County whom I could "visit", if worthwhile.

If anyone actually wants to stay at a hotel, I would also recommend hotels near the Philadelphia airport, about a 20 minute drive. Way closer than the Embassy Suites on South Broad.

ETA: just looked at website again, and it is the Airport Embassy Suites. Oops; but there are many other hotels near the airport, not listed.

Beware:
Old 2014 schedules are what show up at all the links (6.0 and IJS) on the Schedule page -- when I clicked on them just now.

ETA, re the Philadelphia Summer International:

All international skaters, as well as U.S. senior ladies, senior men and junior men, are automatically entered in the international event. U.S. junior ladies will compete in an initial round, and scores from the short program and free skate will be combined. Top finishers move on to the international event. ...

Ashley Cain, the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist, and U.S. junior champion Andrew Torgashev are among the top U.S. skaters entered thus far.

On the international side, coach Annie Barabé will bring a large group of skaters from her rink in Quebec, including Canadian bronze medalist Véronik Mallet and fourth-place finisher Roxanne Rheault. An Israeli contingent is headed by Daniel Samohin, a strong-jumping 17-year-old who was born in Tel Aviv and now trains in Southern California. The Israeli champion placed 10th at the 2015 European Figure Skating Championships.

Skaters representing Brazil, Ukraine, Romania, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Poland and Switzerland are also entered.

Liberty often uses the revious year's schedules. It is a chaotic competition always.

Curious to see whether Samohin has kept his programs from last year or if he's trying something new.

Aston is rural? Aston is a semi-dense, blue collar leaning, middle class suburb of Philadelphia in the middle of a densely populated county (Delaware) that is about the farthest thing from rural that I can imagine. It's few miles south of PHL and near commuter train lines to Philly. It borders the small, dense city of Chester, PA, which has levels of blight, crime and poverty that rival the worst neighborhoods of Philly.

Not sure where you're from or how you came to that conclusion, but you need to choke on traffic for a good 20 miles west and get yourself past Kennett Square to start to encounter any undeveloped land, let alone anything "rather rural."

Hi BetsyK, welcome to GoldenSkate!
I am not sure if Aston is "rural" but as long as we're going all micro, it sure as heck ain't *next* to Chester either. I plan on staying with my brother in Ridley Park, and if you have any way to get to Aston that doesn't take over 20 minutes with traffic, please let me know. I would much rather have the competition in Chester ::cheer: ETA: sorry, for anyone who actually cares and does not know, Ridley *is* next to Chester, unlike Aston.

And as a proud Ridley High graduate, yes, parts of Delco are very blue collar and congested. (like Ridley:biggrin:) and parts are pretty darn pastoral. And of course way more high rent.

Are you planning on going to Liberty?

2015 Philadelphia Summer International Competition, Jul 16-18

Doris, hope you don't mind that I'm starting this separate thread for the new international part of the Philly comp -- now that we have this lovely subforum for non-Challenger internationals (thank you).
If you don't think it's a good idea, please merge back into the other thread. (The schedule links for the international comp in this OP have not been posted in the other thread.)

Home page for the new ISU comp, "2015 Philadelphia Summer International Competition" (PSIC):

PSIC announcement:

The announcement says the dates are Jul 16-19, but the tentative schedule (link below) says all the free skates will be on Jul 18.

The international event will feature the following disciplines:
Senior ladies - singles; Senior men - singles; Junior ladies - singles; Junior men - singles

DRAW
- A Free Draw for the Short Program will take place one day prior to the start of the individual event, at IceWorks Skating Complex, with location and time to be announced
[see link below].
- The Intermediate Draw will take place approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the Short Program.

golden411, I decided the best way to handle this was to merge the files, but put the resultant thread here in ISU comps. This is not ideal, but it is what we do with other competitions that have both as ISU and non ISU component.

There is a slight upside in this case. I left a permanent redirect in Summer competitions so anyone looking for Liberty in its usual spot wil be led here. I did the same thing with Lake Placid IDC, which has an international component this year.

... Andrew Torgashev?? Will I actually have to get off my butt and go visit my brother?

Torgashev injured his ankle in early June, per IceNetwork today:

Hope he is back on the ice soon.

Belated thanks, Doris :).
Appreciate all you do to wrangle the zillions of competition threads as well as the fan threads ... as well as The Edge threads, etc., etc.

Thx for the info, Golden. Oh man, I gotta say that Torgashev was my main reason for wanting to go. I am not hard core, and a 70 mile drive for Krasnohon and Jimmy Ma? ( I know a 70 mile drive for most fans here is right next door). Bummer!

Ummm ... FYI, an earlier IN article had said that Jimmy Ma sprained his ankle on June 1. He hoped to be back on the ice by now, but I thought I should mention. (The article does say that he hopes to be able to compete at another summer event, after missing the Broadmoor Open.)

At least we know that Krasnozhon has been in fine form :), if you decide that he is worth the drive.

ETA, @SarahAndDrew confirmed that Aleksei has been released to compete for the U.S. internationally, and that he will compete in Philadelphia.

Still thinking ... And thanks for the correct spelling of Aleksei's name. I knew it was wrong, but couldn't be bothered to look it up:cool:

Too bad there's no chance in Hades that Jason or Adam would show up for this:laugh:

Hey small world! I went to Strath Haven High School and grew up in Rutledge. Spent a lot of years skating at Ice Works in Aston and sometimes the Skating Club of Wilmington. I'm on the west coast now.

I'd say Aston is neither rural nor urban. It's a classic middle class Philly suburb. Just off the 95 and almost bordering Delaware.

Anyway just wanted to say hi to a former neighbor
