Many major warhorses are either an opera (Carmen, Scheherazade), musical (POTO), or ballet (Swan Lake, R&J), meaning they are large works and thus include a large selection of different pieces. Sadly, most also have three or four sections/movements/songs that are waaaaay overused (leading them to become warhorses). This means that a lot of really great parts of the work in question get overlooked. Do you know of any pieces like this? And are there any programs that used them?

I used the first movement (Allegro con spirito) from the Concierto de Aranjuez for an adult program. It's livelier than the often-used Adagio second movement and lends itself well to footwork.

I think I heard a novice(?) skater use this at a club competition since then, but I can't think of any elite examples.

The piece from the Nutcracker that Sasha Cohen used ("Pas de deux") is some of my all time favorite SP music. The spiral sequence toward the end worked spectacularly with the music.

I don't know if the piece was ever used by anyone else.

Julia skated to 'pas de duex' in her senior debut.

Following the same theme of Sasha and Julia shared music....can I get some more "Dark Eyes"....please?

How bout different interpretations of popular themes. Like Prokofiev wasn't the only one who created music for Romeo and Juliet

Popova and Vlasenko last year used music from the Arabian Nights ballet

Soundtrack from the first season of the Spartacus show

Here's Delilah's theme from the Cecil B DeMille film from the fifties. The theme has since been covered quite a bit

I like this interpretation best

Amanda Evora & Mark Ladwig skated to the Pas de Deux @ 2009 US Nationals in Cleveland. They skated it beautifully (dumb NBC didn't bother to show the performance for which they received a well deserved standing ovation), and finished 4th.

Shen & Zhao also skated to the Pas de Deux.

Rather than more of a single part, I hope people will stop trying to cram multiple movements/numbers into one program and try more focused themes. Warhorses tend to be too patchy and unmemorable because skaters just try to do too much in the first place and they end up with little true interpretation of the music.

Ugh MAJOR offender. I swear every Dark Eyes program to date uses the exact same cut :bang:

From Swan Lake, I wish more skaters used both Odette's variation music and this pas de deux from the second act. More programs I've seen have used music from the third act, and the main melody of the ballet (if we could call it this way), maybe because the melodies are full of contrast and fire, and work well as competitive programs. I also don't remember programs with the music of the pas de trois and the pas de quatre.
