The draw for politics. If Marin were first to skate she would likely do her best. Now that she is the last she will watch if Diana beats Wakaba. If yes, she will try to make the strongest performance to improve her international reputation. If no, I think, the fed would advise her not to win - a popped jump is expected.

I don't think it is right for anyone to force a skater to make mistakes for someone else to win, and I seriously doubt that this will be done. If Marin intentionally tries to make mistakes, she could potentially lose her position in the Final, not to mention the damage to her reputation and the fact that it could damage her confidence and consistency in the future by demoralizing her and causing her to pop more jumps in the future. It reminds me of the movie, "On the Waterfront" with Marlon Brando" a great classic American movie. Brando plays a boxer who has to take the fall because the Mob has bet against him which damages his reputation and causes him to never win a championship. The damage it causes to him psychologically never goes away but stays with him permanently. I don't think Marin should be sacrificed for Wakaba's benefit. She should do her best just like Wakaba. I think it would be cruel to force any skater to make mistakes, especially a vulnerable 14 year old girl like Marin.

If the JSF cared about "politics", they would first:
1) stop assigning as much of their best/popular skaters to the NHK Trophy as they can (good for viewership, bad for their chances of making GPF),
2) establish a qualifying process for Worlds/Olympics that is less of a slaughterhouse - as of now, the skaters cannot afford missing any competition due to injury or illness, because a drop in the rankings can cost them the spot. As a results, sometimes skaters end up peaking at Nats, then struggling when it matters.

JSF has always had "sink or swim" policy in relation to their skaters.

Besides, the draw is random; and the skaters have trouble enough with just concentrating on their own program (most of them try to avoid watching their rivals programs and/or listening to the crowd reaction and scores) and trying to avoid Zayaking...

These conspiracy theories get really tiresome.

What about persistent watch for panels and judges compositons and outcries each time when more than a couple of the so called former Eastern block countries are present? This is tiresome. Here is just speculation and it is very different from "On the waterfront" which btw I consider as an outdated boring movie. It is about helping your countrymate and not about letting the mob get some money. I agree, it is not what this sport is about: it is an individual not team event. But still each skater is announced together with her country. Sorry, if I hurt someone's feelings. I was just contemplating and not suggesting that it is going to be the case.

Well, perhaps this is bad phrasing, but when you use verbs like 'will try', 'would advise' and 'is expected', it does indeed sound like a suggestion that this will or can now be the case with the draw. As this would not be kind act to a team mate but an act of corruption since a clean race to the finish is what sport is supposed to be, you can understand why people may be annoyed. It is just as much a conspiracy theory as preemptive discussion of judges' nationality.

Point taken. I just wish that you and others show the same amount of rigor and persuasiveness whenever the Russia related conspiracy theory is on.

No offense to that the ice is ready to skate again, but COME ON! That was a nice video put together of Barton talking about the highlights and it just cut back to reality.....I mean to the rink.

An ad just popped up on my computer for a car company. And it announced its predictions loud and clear: HONDA WINS!

LOL, just thought that was funny. And possibly a premonition. :laugh2:
