Uh...Michelle had short hair for part of her time with Frank. 1999 and 2000 pictured here:

So obviously, he was dictating that she must always have long hair in a bun and she, obviously, complied and that, obviously, was to maintain a "princess" image because all princesses wear their hair in buns. Like this most famous princess and her iconic buns:

Or we could retire this rather sexist nonsense of criticizing every female skater who appears slightly feminine with that ridiculous label.

Yes she did and looked what happened at the 1999 worlds!!!!! But for the most part Michelle even with short hair had the same Miss America approach to skating and style. lol

She hit her flip in exhibitions last year and hit it in the long over and over again. It wasn't the jump but rather her mental approach to it.

I can just hear my coach screaming you DO NOT hit your jumps. You successfully execute them with flow, vigor, amplitude and grace and flourish. You hit a drum not a jump!

It's just a club competition. Interesting to see the lutz in the short program. I hope she keeps it.

I just hope she doesn't switch out a triple for the 3A. She should keep the layout and replace one of the two 2As with a 3A.
I think with the 3loop problem in the sp, she is switching it up to see if 3lutz is more stable.
IIRC, both national sp and 4cc her 3loop in the SP were double footed.

I think she's only allowed to do one type of axel jump. So she'll probably change the 2A to a 3A.

I've done the math. If she lands a 3A in her short with a 3Lz clean, her score with her PCS from Autumn Classic would be monstrous.

Michelle had extremely short hair in 1999. Here's her LP from that event. I'm in the crowd somewhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35AO47BLkec

Short hair was the style that year. Maria Butyrskaya also had extremely short hair as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkJwO3eKUNQ

Here's Bronze Medalist Julia Soldatova. She also had very short hair.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wku9_VrG2rw

As an aside, I'm pleased (but not surprised) to see this comment from the host club:

... Huge shout out to Mirai Nagasu for being super wonderful to all the skaters ...

The post includes a nice off-ice photo with the two other Senior Ladies competitors.

Thank you! I'm happy that Mirai went for it (the 3A) and I hope she continues to do so in these low key competitions until she gets comfortable with them!

In six months she should be landed them in competition.

It occurs to me that Sumer competitions are going to be really exciting this year. Mirai needs to compete more to get her 3A consistent. Gracie needs to compete to show she's passed her slump. Polina needs to show that's she's passed her injury. Karen needs to prove that nationals wasn't a fluke. Mariah needs to keep up her momentum from last season. Courtney, Angela, and Caroline want to keep their name in the mix. It's going to be interesting seeing these ladies go head to head during the summer.

And now Mirai has tweeted a photo of her Denver Invitational FS protocol, along with this comment [click on the link to see her cute emojis + the protocol sheet]:

First time going for the axel didn't go as planned. Double carrot, but I'm super stoked that I pulled in and that I'm staying in shape!

Go, Mirai :yay:.

More off-ice photos from the Denver Invitational:
With another appreciative comment from the host club:
Thank you for all you do for the skaters, Mirai! (Mar 17)

Karen Chen's pre-Worlds media teleconference for USFS was on Monday (yesterday).

The audio has not yet been posted on IN.

That's a double axle.

If it is then perhaps they posted the wrong vid. That's the link that was posted on FSU.

eta: Yep, just looked again - it's a double axel! My bad! Still a lovely double axel though!
