Jeremy will be there! I miss him so much. Florent's participation will be another pleasure of mine. I'm so excited about the news.

I expect Mao Asada and Takahito Mura to complete the Team Japan roster. Although - with Team North America having Jeremy Abbott and Team Europe having Florent Amodio, I wish they'd get Tatsuki Machida to agree to do it.

Ah well, a fan can dream.

Good to know Wakata gets to compete here. Good luck to her on her senior debuting competition in front of int'l judges! :cheer:
otoh, a bit disappointed to know Yuzuru not compete... they should have been desperate to have him.

I think it's a very good lineup, quite balanced as well. My only complaint is the lack of Canadians, but I understand that maybe Patrick didn't want to go, and the others weren't particularly appealing for the organizers

For a change they could invite another skaters. I am glad that Wakaba here, but what about ladies in Team Europe and Team North America - It's kind of boring. Same skaters, same faces. I mean, for example I'll be glad to see Maria Sotskova with Nicole Rajicova for Team Europe and Polina Edmunds with Alaine Chartrand for Team North America. :(

I agree with you. I think Pogorilaya and Medvedeva have enough experience, but Sotskova is desperate for some international exposure at the senior level.

Well last year Team Europe had Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Adelina Sotnikova and this year is Evgenia Medvedeva's first appearance at JO. They need the big names to sell the tickets. Not to mention, would Europe and North America even be competitive enough with skaters like Sotskova, Rajicova or Chartrand? They're not exactly Wakaba level, just my two cents.

I think she meant Sotskova's name and presence in Japan compared to Wakaba, two-time National Senior medalists in a row. She beat Kanako who was considered a favorite for the National title in 2014-15, and beat Mao and Rika in the 2015-16 Nationals. The weight can't be comparable to the Japanese public unless Sotskova wins major medals in seniors. The same thing would happen to Sotskova over Wakaba if Russia hosts an event like Japan Open.

There is an exhibition called "Carnival On Ice" to be held just after the Japan Open by participating skaters from 7 pm at the same venue. Marin Honda has just been added as a guest skater. Other big names among guest skaters are Gabriella Papadakis and Daisuke Takahashi.

Carnival On Ice always happens after Japan Open, they're tied together.
