A little bit of analysis Nathan v Shoma

Nathan is leading Shoma by 3 points.
If we look at the PCS, Nathan has 43.54 while Shoma has 44.21, and extrapolate it to FS by times 2, Nathan would be 87.08, Shoma would be 88.42.
But at GPF, Shoma had obtained 90.94 PCS in FS, Nathan had 84.42.

So if assuming Shoma would get PCS 90.94 while Nathan would get 87.08. a difference of almost 4 points, then Shoma and Nathan's SP + PCS in FS would be roughly the same.
Thus the better skater would largely be depended upon the FS TES.

Shoma is planning to debut his 4Lo and a 4 quad + two 3A programme.
Nathan has a 5 quad + one 3A programme.

This would be close.

As the last skater Nathan can just watch what the others do and skate accordingly. I also don't think we can expect only 84 in PCS for Nathan like in GPF. He is the leader here, and that will push his PCS up. I don't think it will get into the nineties, though. If both skate cleanly with their planned content Shoma still has the gap of three points from the SP to make up. Could happen, still....I'm sceptical.

Not really. With Shoma's previous program Nathan beat him by nearly 2 points. This was without Shoma's +3T so that's another 4 points. However the 4Lo will only add about 6 points to his score. Nathan will add another 10 points in PCS and his extra quad. So Nathan would win if they both went clean.

However that's probably not going to happen. This is the first time Shoma is performing his 4Lo. And his first time trying a four quad program. It's unlikely that he will skate clean and that he manages to still get his levels. I'm dreading this program already.

Don't underestimate Shoma, people. He's been practising hard these last months and he has ambition. Honestly, I kind of like that he's under the radar a bit. Takes the attention away to others and lets him do his thing.

If he lands everything, I pretty much expect him to be very dangerous. Not entirely sure about that 4Lo but I understand perfectly well why he feels the need to bring it. After going clean at GPF with 3-quads and losing to a 4-quad clean Nathan, more so than losing overrall to Yuzuru, must have spurred him on. Even more after all the noise about Nathan's 5-quad program. If he was behind with 3-quads to 4, there's only one way to solve that difference and it's to raise the BV enough. Same reason Boyang Jin went with 5-quads after probably losing to Patrick Chan at Cup of China and seeing how his attempt at improving his components wasn't being really that rewarded. Raise the BV is the answer in this time and age, more so than it was during the Patrick vs Yuzuru era, where the latter had to improve BOTH areas to be competitive.

It took Nathan, Boyang, and Yuzuru months before they could land a clean four quad program. More so because they added in advanced jumps. Shoma may have been training, but it takes a long time to get a hard jump like that consistent and build the stamina for four quads. Tonight he barely landed his 4F, I am very pessimistic that he can do it clean the first time.

I'm not saying that I'm a hundred percent confident here, but I also don't think Shoma would announce or try a program he isn't able to do consistently in training - clean. So let's just wait and see.

i am happy with this draw for Patrick. Just after Boyang... both of them tend to skate well in that order. May they both go over 200.

Skaters often skate clean programs in practice that they often cannot skate in competition. Tomorrow is going to be very rough for Shoma. I hope it doesn't cost him a medal.

it seems 3-best saved for the last . It will be battle

Do you mean that the 3 best are saved for last in terms of starting order? It's actually supposed to be like that now. The final three skaters will always be the top 3 of the SP. It's a new rule.

A little pre-FS survey,

In your opinion, whose debut 4Lo would be better?

Shoma or Boyang.

My predictions:

Shoma will stepout on his 4Lo but otherwise will be clean.
Boyang will land all his quads but single his 3A, again.
Patrick will get all his quads but fall on a 3A, again.
Nathan will get all his quads but fall on a 3A just because.
Yuzuru will land all his quads and then fall on a 3Lz just because.
Han Yan will land a beautiful 3A just 'cause.
