It looks great actually, very promising

If I made any errors in identifying the younger skaters (whom I have not previously seen live), please let me know.

Welcome Emilia12 and janetliz to the Canadian discussion thread on The Edge at GS...!!!

We really appreciate your contributions and we hope that they'll keep coming.

....And we also hope that you'll join us in the competition threads [even when we get silly, punchy and otherwise eccentric in the wee hours for us...whenever that is ;).]

You think? Almost everything in that clip ignored the music.

Although.....it's not even good music.

What are you talking about? Adagio from Spartacus is a great ballet classic, and it's absolutely amazing, soft and tender but very powerful at the same time. It's a fantastic choice for WP, it sutes them so well. I wanted them to do something like that for a long time.

Pj Kwong has an article up on CBC's site: Canada's best figure skaters offer sneak peek ahead of PyeongChang Games

TSN is posting images and video from media day at HPC: https://twitter.com/SkateTSN
Some skaters are also posting stuff on their accounts.
Here is Kevin: https://www.instagram.com/p/BYf_CwQnMhF/
And Julianne & Charlie: https://www.instagram.com/juliannecharlie/

Another live with Kaetlyn: https://www.facebook.com/SkateCanada/videos/10154926952382039/

Celebrating 20 years of Tessa & Scott's partnership: https://www.instagram.com/p/BYgAj7xFmj4

The hashtag if you want to search Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter is #HPCamp17 or #CampHP17

Kaetlyn looks tiny in this clip and she sure is pretty. I feel guilty for saying this but, I kept looking over kaetlyn's shoulder to see Patrick.....:laugh2:

Yikes, why do ubers always get so touchy? It's just my opinion jeez.

It's completely indistinct music that they're not skating up to. Reminds me of their mediocre, labored 'Four Seasons' and 'Bitter Earth' FDs tbh.

One doesn't need to be an [word not cited as it violates GS guidelines] to see it differently.. ..:noshake:

I love ice dance...but I also love the other disciplines.

I find great joy in Virtue/Moir, Gilles/Poirier, and great teams from countries other than Canada.

But I also have adored the special something that Weaver/Poje brought to their FS in 'Four Seasons' and 'Bitter Earth' in particular.

If they can now meld that with the step up in technical quality that was their focus last year, it could offer true greatness...but in their own mould, not others....:rolleye:

^I just don't get why Weaver/Poje insist on skating to big, dramatic classical music when their strength is with more romantic pieces like Je Suis Malade. They should've turned their Ghost ex into a FD this year.

Adagio from Spartacus is very romantic, yet powerful, I'm confident that Lori did a great job with it as she did with their Ghost exh. This style is very "Them", it fits in what they do and what they great at, I don't understand why there's so much negativity

Because I think it looks bad....? Learn to accept different viewpoints once in a while.

Yes, please do, preferably without labeling and scorning others.

How am I "scorning" others? I'm not the overly defensive one or the one screaming 'what are you talking about?' at someone else's viewpoint. I just stated an opinion.

Ubers....:drama:

*sigh* We are arguing I see. In the Canadian thread.

I love, love, love Tango De Roxanne. There I have said it for all those of you who hate it to see. I also love tangos so I'm thinking I'm going to love V/M's FD this year but I'm holding off my opinion until I see it. This might make it hard for me to objective. I hope it doesn't turn me into a crazy woman with people who complain about it.

Olay (a night cream my mom used to use) has a right to not like the Spartacus program (although I would reserve judgement until I'd seen the whole thing..some programs are bigger than the sum of their parts). On the other hand people loving it and wanting to defend it does not make them mindless ubers. It's called a difference in personal aesthetic. And I loathed This Bitter Earth. I made me cringe. And I still want W/P to win the bronze medal. :p

Well, we didn't want it to be a fan fest ;)

[ .....or is that just my revisionist history]

I'm always happy to see healthy debate.

I'd just like us all to start from the assumption that folks who are seeing things differently .....are well actually 'seeing' and 'thinking'...

If we were all clones who had the same preferences and thought the same way, it wouldn't be any fun at all. :dance3:

True. People should have different opinions. I learn things from people who disagree with me all the time. Sometimes your mind is open and sometimes it has to be pried open with a crowbar.

Skate Canada has a new Feel the Moment campaign to promote figure skating....

...it seems to be promoting the sport...both as a physical activity and as a sport to watch as a fan...

and there is the hashtag #feelthemoment; #vivelemoment.....which seems to be about more than skating

I love the skating outfits Meagan and Eric are wearing for the CBC photo shoot in her tweet! Meagan, in particular, looks incredible! She always has beautiful costumes, but this one in particular is extra flattering, I think. It's also a different style from her other ones. I think it will help to lengthen her lines a bit - I'd love it if these were actually competition costumes for them.
