Gubanova and Vasilieva, huh? Certainly looking forward to Gubanova a lot, and while Vasilieva wasn't among my favorites last season, I still am curious to see how she's going to tackle the JGP. The potential is there to be a pleasant skater.

Did you watch Vika's SP? I really liked it! But now I'm afraid she could be ousted. Because only 7 places. Two places already booked by Sasha Trusova and Nastya Gulyakova. Next will compete Nastya Gubanova, Nastya Tarakanova, Dunya Panenkova, Sonya Samodurova, Alisa Fedichkina, Stanislava Konstatinova (well, may be she'll on Rostelecom Cup). But if all girls will skate well - than Vika could be just simple out.

Konstantinova is doing JGP, she is in Minsk. And the strategy this season is definitely "give everyone a spot and select the best of the best for the second". Nugumanova and Tarusina though appear to be out of luck, at least Vasilieva has a definite chance.

She's already in Minsk? Well, it's good. But Stanislava is defenetly the best option for the third spot at Rostelecom Cup. If Lip and Sotnikova are out, then I'd prefer to see Stasya instead Serafima or other girl. I'm only sad that Stanislava decided to keep for the third season in the row her free skate program. I really hate this program, music and her costume. :disapp:

What about Vika - she desereved her spot by winning or placing 2-3 at almost every competition. Unfortunately she couldn't show her best at Junior Russian Nationals like many other girls. Also she showed not really good results at Junior Russian Nationals B. :( But anyway...

By putting Vika into Croatia, then there is a max of 5 girls who can get 2 JGP spots each. Which means there will be no possibility of an all-Russian JGPF.
Actually it's also sad that Ekaterina Kurakova is shunted out as well -- she was doing pretty well domestically last year and got the feeling that she and Guliakova were placing roughly on par. Of course Nugumanova and Tarusina missing out are also a pity.

That's what I said a couple post above. Seven JPG events - only 14 spots - 7 places. Two places already booked by Sasha and Nastya. There is only five places. And before this event six girls will compete. If all of them or five of them will skate clean (will take 1-2 places in each event) - then RusFed will replace Vika. So it's still not clear about Vika's participation.

Stanislava hasn't kept her LP, she is skating to a waltz from one of the latest Anna Karenina movies.

Yes, there are too many girls for JGP spots already and I doubt it will get any easier. That's why people are saying it was unfair to keep Stanislava in Juniors and have her take up spots instead of giving her Rostelecom. Although funnily enough, there are even more boys this season who were at the junior test skates and have a claim to a spot. They can't afford to screw up any more than girls if they want another spot.

I think if there is a chance of an all-Russian JGPF, Vasilieva will be out of luck. They have already provisionally given Gubanova two spots, she seems to be in good shape but she is not the most stable skater, there is a chance that she will do badly at her first event and I don't think she'll keep the second spot after that either. The Fed is giving itself room to maneuver. But those who are not on the list for the first five events are almost definitely out.

Yay! I didn't know. Thanks for information! Now I definitely looking forward to see this one! Hope she also will have beautiful dress. As beautiful as she is.

Sure, it's just formal list and federation can replace anyone. Second spot was given to Nastya just like formal thing (and well deserved, because she won two JGP stages in the last season) and of course - if she'll skate bad at the first event then she'll be replaced at the second. And it's hard part, you want to see all of them on the ice with the clean skating. So let's wish to all girls good luck. :)

I have some doubts about Alisa. Also Sonya, but I saw her results at St. Pete junior skate - it's nice. Alisa, on the contrary, just WD (with Aliev, so probably just coach's decision, but anyway) after SP with not good results - 62 points, at local competition - it's low result, especially considering her marks two years ago at JGP stages.

Yes, if they will give all their JGP participants two places each, they can accommodate 7 girls at the max. But to do so given the assignments they have already made now, they will have to displace 2 girls from their assigned first JGP slots before they even had a chance to skate (which means Vika, and then either Stasya or Sonya).

So if we assume that every girl who gets a first JGP slot will get to keep it (and then the top 5 of those 9 girls gets a 2nd spot), Nastya Guliakova is not guaranteed her 2nd spot yet. There will be likely to be 3-4 different girls winning their first JGP, and then if there are more than 2 second place finishers, they still have to rank them against each other to give the last spot(s). Nastya does have an advantage though in that she is training 3A. Hoping she can bring it to her 2nd JGP!

This is really crazy - to think that a JGP silver medalist might not get a second assignment on the basis of being 'not good enough'. And that such good skaters as Tarusina, Nugumanova or Vasilieva might not get spots at all. And we should not forget that currently Scherbakova is not in the minx, with her it would have been even worse.

^ thank you!

Hopefully Kovalev keeps his slot. :)

Ladies also sounds like it'll be awesome.

Also, silly question, but did Sarah Feng do pairs with Anthony Ponomarenko at some point?

Extra/Unused spots:

Men - KOR only used 1 of their 2 spots. ISR didn't use their 1 spot. JPN is using an extra spot and sending 2 entries. (FRA could have as well, with priority over JPN, but chose not to)KOR

Ladies - RUS/JPN/KOR each used 2/2 earned spots. USA/GER/HKG along with CHN/FIN/GBR all used their 1 earned spot. Therefore, none of USA/GER/HKG could send extra skaters (and USA would definitely have used an extra spot if available). CRO is also entering 3 Ladies as per hosting rights.

Pairs - RUS/CHN/CAN all sending 3/3 earned entries. AUS sending none. USA sending 2/2, ISR/ESP sending 1/2, KOR/GER/JPN/FRA/ITA sending 0/2.

Ice Dance - USA/RUS/CAN all sending 2/2, FRA/GER sending 1 earned entry with CZE sending 0 (but neither FRA nor GER taking the extra spot that they could). UKR/GBR also each using their 1 earned entry.
