IMO how you start and end a program is a pretty big deal. I imagine choreographers must spend a lot of time trying to come up with a unique and interesting pose.
I'm curious to see which start/ending poses you love the most!

I'll start with three of my favorites ever:

Lipnitskaya's 2014 FS start and ending poses are pretty iconic to me. Her whole interpretation was amazing for such a young age. The girl in the red coat certainly won our hearts with her intense look and emotional performance. I absolutely loved it! :luv17:

Also from Sochi season, Yuna Kim's FS poses are marvellous. I like how the start already tells a story, it sets the feel of the program. Her dress had this detail, it sorta looked like a cut. And she starts the program with her hand on it. And notice the first movement she does. So sentimental. :drama:

(btw, the earlier version of the dress showed the "cut" better -> picture but I'm glad they changed it because it was too "in your face", imo)

Yuzuru's 2015 Seimei. The ending is so powerful!! I've never really paid attention to men's FS, but it all changed after Hanyu.
Please, delight yourselves with his magnificence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BoVFhJmvEU

Now let me know your favorites!

PS.:I coudn't find a similar thread so... If there is one already, I'm sorry! :p

I feel that I must mention Gary Beacom and his headstand in "I'm Your Man"!

OMG! :jaw:

I am shooked! LOL

I don't know if it's because it's not from my generation, but I've found the whole program so funny!

Really amazing though! I loved it! Thanks for your input, that's exactly the kind of post I was expecting to see!

I really like both the starting and ending from Nic Nadeau's Elvis FS that he's kept from last season (he was injured and missed the whole fall). But then I absolutely adore that whole program. At the beginning I mostly just love the expression on his face.

Another one where I love the facial expression is Tessa at the beginning of V/M's Prince SD. Actually that one has a great ending pose too.

And the ending from their 2010 Olympic FD, especially since at the Games Scott turned them the wrong way coming out of the last spin so they didn't end it facing the judges and they were worried it would cost them gold and Marina and Igor basically said, "what are you guys talking about they was amazing". Apparently all the photographers thanked Scott afterwards because they got the perfect shot. I think it's a cute story.

Shibs "Fix You" "MJ Medley" and "That's Life"

There are so many more

And yes, some choreographers have these things just naturally come to them, while some have to work for it. :dev3:

There are so many beautiful and interesting ones but...Sui/Han's "BluesForKlook" SP starting pose the first that comes to mind right now (hope it's not too obvious though )
Cool, sassy, full of energy just as skaters and program itself.

I was just about to make a thread with the same question!

I like Karen Chen's On Golden Pond SP opening and closing pose. Her SP from Worlds:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVCvzWZJoJg

YES! In fact, that whole opening sequence is incredible.

I like Mao Asada's Madame Butterfly closing pose - it's really symbolic and just so beautifully done.

I also like Yuzuru Hanyu's Semei opening pose. To be honest, the main reason is that it's actually unique for once (seriously...so many of his programs start simply by having him stand with his arms on his sides which is pretty annoying). But another reason is because it matches the concept and theme of both the music and the program itself. The whole program is iconic, but I think that the opening pose itself is what draws you in. :)

Can't think of any others yet, so I'll add them later.

Mao's ritual fire dances, Rachmaninov 2, Rachmaninov 1. Start/ending.

Yuna's adios noniños and the lark ascending starting poses.

This one came up to my head immediately and it's not even a program that I've rewatched that many times:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAsK2B9cBeA&t=270

Also, you know you've just finished an amazing performance when you can barely hear the music and half of the arena is already standing up during your final spin ;)

Similar thing happened during Jason's 2014 nationals FP.

I realise this one is not an ending pose, but it's the only one I've seen being referred to as iconic:
