2015 Skate America Mens FS Oct 24

Just watched the Men's Free.

Congrats to Max! I think it was deserved given his technical performance both in the free and short.

1. Max: that was good but... not as good as at Nebelhorn? I mean the choreography, not the execution. I really liked it at Nebelhorn but here it was from jump to jump and not much in between. Did he change anything?

Yes, they did take out a lot of the choreography, which is a shame, cause, like you , I thought there were some cool parts. But I guess if he can land the jumps and get 90+ TES then that's probably not a bad strategy. His problem last season wasn't really the PCS mark, it's that he wasn't capitalizing on what he was supposedly good at.

It will be interesting to see how he scores at TEB. TEB is going to be like JGP Poland (for those of you who did watch), there's going to probably be a bunch of potential GPF contenders in that competition, including Patrick Chan, Shoma Uno, Maxim Kovtun. Daisuke Murakami might play spoiler, like he did at NHK. And Denis Ten is supposed to be there (though he might not be there)

I met Jason and his Dad outside the arena on Saturday afternoon. Jason was surrounded by little girls. He patiently posed for pictures with each one. I told Mr Brown what a good parent he was to turn out such a kind, grounded young man and his face lit up and he thanked me, very much like his son. By that point Jason was free so I got a photo and a hug when I told him getting to see him skate was why I came to Milwaukee. Then as he was leaving I told him to tell Korie she is drop dead gorgeous in person which made them both laugh and Jason said he would tell her. Such a fan girl experience for an old lady!

So you are saying Mr. Aaron must get 70 PCS because you think his choreography is not your taste? Having good choreography does not mean you must get higher PCS. And in this case Mr. Uno got higher PCS than Mr. Aaron, more than 3 points.

As for me I prefer watching Mr. Aaron's huge jumps all days rather than Mr. Uno'a cheated 3A and toe axel.

Mr. Aaron deserves his win with two gusty performances. On other days Mr. Aaron will never get such privilege because he is not judge's taste. Because he is not "artistic" according to some people But today he wins. That's it.

His programs are not masterpiece, but Mr. Uno's programs are not either. I am glad that a true jumper like Mr. Aaron gets his rightful win when he truly delivers.

Let those who cherish true jump technique and good jumping ability enjoy their days for a fleeting moment.

And how on earth Mr. Brown got 85 PCS? I am puzzled.

quit the bs, Mr Aaron didn't deserve these PCS with that program.

^This. For people who complain that skaters win so often on PCS, you'd think they'd let technical skaters win a competition here and there.
They won't stop whining. Because they don't appreciate true jumping technique. Their favorite skaters cheat their jumps and call it a day and get huge TES but they never question it.

Let make it clear, huge jumpers they take much higher risk than those who barely cross the ice with hideous technique. They put themselves at much more risks why they are not getting any love? All the whining is about "he is just a jumper" as if to jump like that is easier than cheating their jumps.

That's great you got to meet them! I love meeting people's parents, personally. It's really fascinating to meet the people behind the people you admire. As you pointed out, you often see many of the same characteristics.

Jason Brown with no quad in the SP get 86 and no quad in the free gets 176 points at World Team Trophy.

Max Aaron with a quad-triple in the SP gets 86, and with 2 quads in the FS (and a 2A step out) gets 172 points.

I'd say that's pretty fair.

You know they will never appreciate Mr. Aaron for all the effort he has made. Ha!

Shoma didn't deserve 84 PCS for his either.
I'd say Mr. Uno's TES is pretty much generous if you slow down his 3A (i'd say Miss Asada jump it better) and "quad" (I'd call it a toe axel). And his lutz is very suspicious too.

As for his PCS, I have no comment.

Whatevs. Their haterade is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Doesn't change the fact that Max has a gold, and haters can't do anything to change that no matter how much they whine.

I was in the hotel lobby late last night and here came Max Aaron with his skatebag and bag of stuffed animals. I thought, OMG its Max Aaron and then realized I said it out loud not just in my head because Max gave a huge grin. He was so sweet, posed for a photo, thanked me for the kind words and said he had homework to do (he is a finance major and hopes to go to grad school at Harvard someday). I asked about his sister and he said they are getting back on track for their B competition. What a sweet kid and a very happy one last night!

American flag crack, lol. Home inflation is nothing new and live experince is different from sitting in front of TV so maybe Max did create a magic moment out there in the arena that didn't come across on TV. Prepare for the outrage after Kovtun's PCS at Rostelecom, heh. I'll start cursing the judges and their PCS judging if he keeps those marks elswhere.

Ehm...Kovtun will compete at TEB and NHK. Fields where there are many guys who deserve higher PCS than him: Patrick, Denis, Shoma, Jason, Yuzuru, would have place Josh here as well but  But my guess is that, if he skates anywhere close to clean, he'll get good PCS, perhaps even higher than some of the men I mentioned if they make a lot of mistakes. But I think his road to the GPF won't be as easy as it was last year, we'll see in a few weeks. I'm really excited to see how Max (Aaron) could stir things up at TEB!

Whatever. Doesn't change the fact that Max has a gold, and haters can't do anything to change that no matter how much they whine.
It is kind of frustrating isn't it? But I agree with you. Whatever! Mr. Aaron's jumps are wonderful as they are and his performances here are filled of confidence. So enjoyable!

As a rule I am not a fan of "tinkly piano" programs and when I saw Jason's on-line I wasn't impressed. But last night, WOW that is just beautiful in person. It made me cry

I don't hate Max actually and I am very impressed and appreciative of his jumps. Doesn't change my opinion on his program and PCS though.
How easy to dismiss so's opinion by saying they're a hater. :agree:

Home cooking isn't strictly an American phenomenon. I've seen some indigestion-inducing results from home cooking at events all over the world.

Good for Max. He's never going to be asked to audition for the New York City Ballet, but his presentation is exponentially improved, probably for one reason: the choreography in both programs has forced him to SLOW DOWN. And that slowing down has done wonders for his skating as a whole.

To be honest, these fans prioritize good artistry (ie their opinion of who has good artistry) wayyyy more than technical ability/output.

I bet there are those who thought Brown should have been ahead of Aaron in the freeskate with his UR jumps.

Then you have skaters like Ten getting 77 PCS with an abysmal technical score (3 falls, 2 pops and other errors), and a very uninspired program, and people seem to think Max deserved lower PCS than that.

At the end of the day, if you take into account what happened in BOTH the SP and LP, Max is your clear winner, even if his skating or programs aren't your cup of tea.

Totally. There are moments in it that I want to clap, but don't because it would break the spell of what he's doing out there.
