you know what, I think that American kid Alex K (forgot his last name, sorry) can pull it off. I saw him performing to a cowboy song and thought he had a lot of personality. He just needs to not look so clean cut for this song. I can see him pulling it off, with his blonde hair.... Kostner skates to a song by Bonham (from Led Zeppelin) this year.
And of course Virtue & Moir along with Delobel & Schoenfelder did Pink Floyd in 2008-09 but never had a showdown because each were out for a respective half of the season.
Kevin Reynolds did AC/DC one year but I think it was a muzak version.

Brian Joubert skated to Apocalyptica. Volosozhar/Trankov skated to Evanescence, so does Diana Nikitina this season. Iliuschechkina/Moscovitch skated to Led Zeppelin. Lots of people have had Pink Floyd programs. I wish more skaters would try rock programs that aren't Queen or Muse...and stay far away from the whiny white guys like Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, etc.

This is one of their lighter (no growling) songs but I think Opeth's Face of Melinda would be nice to skate to. It's probably a bit too slow but you could splice in some parts from around the 5 minute mark. Also around 6:40 would be nice for a step sequence.

Canada has a fairly strong rock tradition in many forms....and we do see our skaters reaching for that.
With vocals now usable, I suspect we'll see more of it. Unfortunately, the rock bands, or their labels, also seem to be fairly aggressive in asserting their rights so many of these are not available for viewing.
The hard rock program that sticks out in my mind is Kevin Reynolds 2013-2014 SP to Australian AC DC's 'Back in Black/Thunderstruck' choreographed by Shae-lynn Bourne. He never fulfilled it's promise that season IMO due to his ongoing boot and injury issues, but his revamped exhibition version, with vocals, earlier this season, is a favourite that I watch again and again.

The third-ranked junior pair at the Canadian national skating championships this year, the Boys-Eddy siblings, Olivia and Mackenzie, had an innovative hard rock short program [Led Zepplin, ZZ Top ???] this season. The version from nationals was never able to be posted due to rights being asserted, but you can catch them in the replay of their warm-up group at the December 2016 Challenge, the qualifier for nationals starting at 6:25.....[interestingly, it wouldn't let me copy the link or create a usable link at the time stamp....]

I remember that Elvis program! Skating to "Jump" by either Van Halen OR Loverboy would be a good idea.
This! He would definitely be brave enough! :agree: And I agree that he would totally sell it!!
Just the other day I was thinking Jump would be a great song for a program! I hope someone does it eventually.
In general I think rock can work pretty well, though metal would probably work well only for a few skaters. Rock's a far safer choice. I think Queen programs can work especially well, I really like Tatsuki Machida's Don't Stop Me Now EX from 2011/2012.

Mariah Bell would be fantastic for the Janis Joplin program, she gives off that hippie chick vibe to me.
I skated to Alone by Heart years ago, but I guess I don't count.
