Just as I thought! Maxim was bit unexpected though.
Which one?
And on a slightly more serious note, I share Medusa's assessment of Evan. I respect what he's done in his career, but he's just so... generic, I guess, for lack of a better term. I'm never surprised, or wowed, or inspired, by any of his programs. He goes out on the ice and skates competently and with a lot of commitment to what he's doing, which is very nice, but he's just not very interesting to watch IMO. And the music choices are blah. His sit spin is fantastic, though.
That's always something we can agree on - Lysacek.

I would think certain 3 russians, jouby, lambiel, urbas and... zelenka anyone? *
Evan has very good features...I find him cute..plus nice sit spin of course ( just to be on topic). And music choices aside, i liked his carmen!

*and this latin guy with great layback, who i forgot his name, wouldnt harm

Oh! Shabalin I meant:p
Yeah, I am not sure why though. I think he is just very attractive in a more unconventional way. It's not like Trankov, who is the typical tall, dark and handsome kind of guy - or Smirnov and Joubert with their classic pretty features and impressive bodies. There is simply a certain charisma to Shabalin, that I can't really explain - and his body isn't too bad either.

Ohh. my eyes. Plushenko in underwear? Stéphane could be alright, but he is a bit on the petite side for underwear. Same goes for Urbas, Zelenka, the Uspenskis and certainly Evan. If we only go after the face, Lutai can't be left out because he is just too pretty - but I still don't want to see him in underwear.

Who are your certain 3 Russians?

We should have a girl talk thread!

Medusa, I can see why you find Shabalin appealing. Shawn Sawyer does that for me.

I have seen Evan skate several times in person, and I have to say that he is a lot more surprising, wowing and inspiring than on TV. His intensity can be quite riveting, especially if you are sitting up close.

I am so happy for Evan for his accomplishments and all these awesome opportunities. He has well represented team USA for years, and he deserves every bit of fame and wealth. Plus, he's never forgotten to give back to the society.

Absolutely agree! He's rivetting to watch live and in person on the ice and is very gracious to talk to off the ice. Always very appreciative of fan support - this I know from personal experience. Always very respectful and appreciative of his fellow competitors as well. He has totally earned the rewards he is reaping. Go Evan.

:thumbsup: and a snap. I know I was impressed when I saw him live. When he was on the ice I was making so much noise that after his performance the woman next to me asked me if I knew Evan personally and
I said no but that I have been following his career for sometime now and I am a fan of his skating.

So at last you appreciate Evan's arm flapping. His Greek blood makes him use his arms like "Icarus" trying to fly away. ;)
Kirov style is for the other skaters :p
That's an opinion, Senorita. You make up your own mind whether his arms are flapping. I'm sure TT would not allow that, and neither will Lori.

Fans of Johnny are not going to like this thread. No?

I was the one who mentioned flapping arms, not seniorita. And I was joking about the Greek God "Icarus" who tried to fly from Crete to Greece. Evan is part Greek and seniorta wants to be Greek so that was all it meant. OK - just some silliness
But everything else is her fault
She wants Plushy skating in a Sumo loin clothe but is too shy to say so ;)

Well, Plushy does skate in very tight briefs only in a male porn video which I saw. I was not able to copy it.

And as I said i dont mind arms of skaters moving in all directions, when it goes with rest of body and music, I like it. It depends on the skater always.
I thought Tatiana's skaters project the emotion and their moves too much (for me always)
Being far from USA I think it is not a matter of Evan vs Johnny here, I havent felt for this rival ever, it is more whether you like evan or johnny 's skating for me.

I liked many of the skaters back in the days of school figures. There was not nearly as much arm flapping then because skaters learned more about balance and didn't need to use there arms as much.
I don't like Tat or Eastern Euro style when it gets so dramatic. It is why so many Americans don't like ice dancing - the silly faces make us laugh ot take bathroom breaks.
Evan vs Johnny is unknown rivalry to 99% of Americans. No one but skating fans cares one way or the other. Now, even skating fans no longer care

The arm movements aren't for balance, it's to get a higher level in footwork. Upper body movement counts as an extra feature in COP. And you really don't notice it live.

And I thought Evan had figures training when young.

He could have trained figures if his coach at the time insisted but it has stopped since .....1990? So he is not old enough to have had to learn them.

It looks at times like arms are being used to help accelerate. Sometimes they are being used for "artistry" but it doesn't always look so good to me.
I understand about the use of upper body in step sequence - just think it looks awful and slows it down and often is far from elegant. Perhaps if today's skaters learned figures, and had better edges we wouldn't need head bobbing and other elements unrelated to footwork in a step sequence.. Just my opinion - some are good....many feel too slow at times

I'm a fan of Johnny and I'm quite liking this thread...though it's probably because of the underwear ad discussion.

Anyways, I'm glad that figure skaters are getting more mainstream exposure in North America, whether it be Evan's Ralph Lauren ads or Johnny's Pop Star on Ice documentary.

who knew the mention of Ralph Lauren could spark such interest?

anyway, I would love to see Evan do something traditional greek. It would be something new make him really stand out. but i fear we are in for another warhorse, or two. But then again, Evan can pull of warhorses pretty well.
