I have heard that Javi felt bad during practice so this is not a suprise. I think he will do well enough to get into GPF, losing first GP does not mean much. He won this CoR already so it's ok.

After watching Javi's SP, I got the feeling that he was completely stiff and as if he wasn't really there..... Apart from that, I thought he said he had changed the programm, however I¡m not able to see those changes from the first look.....well, I just hope he'll be the best Elvis tomorrow:think:

Considering that Javi felt sick and he took 1 whole week off, the SP was not a too bad start. The program itself is gorgeous imo, it is just one of my favourite SPs from the last 10+ years. I am really happy that he decided to keep this SP for this season (it is a good decision). Tecnically it wasn't still there, but In presentation, interpretation of the music and composition he got the scores he deserved (later in the season with a near-perfect SP I'd give him surely 10s on some of them).
His look was a bit plain to me, anyone could wear black pants and shirt for nearly any program, so I think the costume of the last season was more fitting for Malaguena, and also more unique and beautiful. I liked his hairstyle though.

Big Congratulation to Javi for the 3rd consecutive Rostelecom Cup title:hap10: his performance tonight is phenomenal and as Russian crowd clapped along the program, I guess they enjoyed it as much as I did.

Keep up the good work and take a good rest over the weekend for the next week's competition:love:

Congratulations, Javi for winning the 3rd title of Rostelecom Cup! :agree:

I really like this program and he performed it very well. He now has little time to rest a bit, but I hope he will have some free time in the next four days so that can compete not too tired at TEB. Good luck!

Whew! I didn't dare to comment as I was kind of worried about whether Javi was going to do well at CoR. Well it wasn't perfect and and Javi wasn't in his best form yet, but all things considered it's a pretty good performance. It's still early in the season so I'm sure a lot of things can and will be worked on as the season progresses.
Can't say that I am a fan of either costume, but Javi was born beautiful and it surely helps
eppen, do you miss the spread eagle + 3loop?;)

BTW Brian's reaction when Javi completed the program was priceless!

Honghe - I take the laidback Ina Bauer with the 3Lo gladly! It is not bad at all :luv17:

Btw, he has now 4 FS with over 200 points, 2 SP with over 100 points. Hanyu has the opposite totals.

I'm so happy Javi won! Shoma put up a great fight and made things very hard for him, I'm glad he rose up to the occasion and delivered such a great performance, and scored over 200! It's just a matter of polishing the spins and steps :)

I actually think Javi was a underscored. I thought some of his jumping passes could have had higher GOE's. I think something over 205 would have been fair. Still I'm very happy he won b'coz honestly I was actually already expecting a silver from him.

I guess we have to start believing in his ability to do pretty good FSs  Most of the jumps - I think - were fairly judged considering some of the mishaps - however, I do keep wondering what he should do with the 3A, 3Lz and 3Lo to get 2-3 goes... The entries are probably ok, but maybe something is needed in the exits?

A fanvid which shows brilliantly how the program uses the ice area: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlpICwqKSGY (I thought that the beginning of the Fever section would have been much closer to the edge of the rink for one)

I'm very grateful for whoever did this: comparison of Malaguena from 2015 Rostelecom and now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDiIEmBNJRY

Some of the changes were made in the spring already - the second quad, of course - but now the major point is really the change in the shape of the step sequence.

That was quite an intense competition but I'm very happy that Javi delivered such a strong program :D

I'm torn about his new costume for his sp though. I mean I never spit on Javi in tight black clothing (I drool actually), but I'm not sure how it fits his music.

But anyway, his skating really looked more refined to me, I'm really happy to see him keeping improving as time goes :3

Ha this is really a good response to someone who commented on the other thread about Javi did not have any intention of giving good performance at CoR because of his campaign. Javi did not do 4-3 and 3-3, only 4-2 and 3-2 so this score is not low at all. I am just glad he got over the jetlag soon. The next GP he doesn't need to win at all honestly.

So, now Javier is a three-time Cup of Russia winner, congratulations! He seems to have a great ability to defend his titles, even if circumstances are a bit against him (was not able to train during a week´s time and suffered from jetlag). It is unfortunate that B Esp clip on youtube has no voice, would have loved to hear what the commentators are saying about his freeskate.

Congrats Javi on delivering clean FP and winning third CoR title! It was a pleasure to watch you! I still hope we will see a clean Malaguena before Europeans though ;)
