Hate to break the serious skating analysis, but I so recognized myself in this: https://twitter.com/fran_ldc/status/796010295344984068?lang=fi Do you?

On a slightly more serious note FedHielo has started mo publish its own magazine (in Spanish of course) and the first one features Sara Hurtado's musings on Javi: http://www.fedhielo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/fedhielo_web.pdf

e

Well, I was more like lying on the floor next to my mom during the FS because of how nervous we were (I really really like Shoma and he's in my top 3...but Javi is in my top 2 ) But when I watched it again my reaction may have been quite similar, or perhaps like Himawari

The article is quite interesting, speaking from Sara's POV. She admitted than even she thought Javi wouldn't win Worlds after the SP. But that his FS was the moment when a skater becomes a legend. She learned to never underestimate someone after that, and that, whether someone does a sport or not, everyone should learn from stories like his: to learn to be brave, trust your training, don't settle with something "ordinary", and not leave things to luck, but try and reach your dreams.

Going back to the BV talk a bit, Shoma and Patrick seem to be the ones with closer BV to his (95.13): Shoma is a couple of points above (97.81), Patrick is a couple of points below (92.56). I wonder how much can his BV increase with a 3-3-3 combination, or how can he adjust his layout in the first place. He can't give up his 4S and 3A combinations, since they are big point makers. Perhaps he could do a 3F+3T+3T, but he would have to downgrade his 4S+3T to a 4S+2T. And that would actually results in a slight reduction of BV, if my math doesn't fail me.

Current layout
4T 10.30
4S+3T 14.80
3A+2T 9.80
CSSp4 3.00
ChSq1 2.00
4S x 11.55
3A x 9.35
3Lz x 6.60
3F+Lo+3S x 11.22
FCCoSp4 3.50
3Lo x 5.61
StSq4 3.90
CCoSp4 3.50
TOTAL BV 95.13

Possible layout
4T 10.30
4S+2T 11.40
3A+2T 9.80
CSSp4 3.00
ChSq1 2.00
4S x 11.55
3A x 9.35
3Lz x 6.60
3F+3T+3T x 14.33
FCCoSp4 3.50
3Lo x 5.61
StSq4 3.90
CCoSp4 3.50
TOTAL 94.84

Of course, assuming he hits his levels

Can anyone else think of a way to add a 3-3-3 combination without losing BV? A 3A+3T+3T perhaps? His 3A has gotten so much better the last couple of seasons, but it sounds a bit too wild.

Regarding the 3-3-3... Actually I wouldn't be too surprised if it was just something that happened to cross his mind at that moment during the interview. It's possible that he himself did not really do the math.

Thank you so much, xibsuarz, for the summary of Sara's article!
Speaking of Sara, will she and her new partner be eligible for Euros? If so there will suddenly be three Spanish dance teams fighting for one spot, compared to last season when, I think, there were only one team skating at Nationals.

But when I watched it again my reaction may have been quite similar, or perhaps like Himawari

Awwww I'll never get tired of watching those videos of Himawari watching the SuperJavi program! She is the cutest! I also love this clip a lot: https://www.instagram.com/p/BAlBkmuF_Nx/
On a side note, I saw that Miki recently posted a cute picture of Himawari putting on skates so maybe she has started skating? I know Miki has said that she wouldn't push Himawari into skating unless Himawari really wants to do it. But if Himawari ever gets seriously interested in it, well she has genes from a great jumper and two world champions to share their experience with her;)

Thanks a lot, xibsuarz, Javi's stunning FS performance at 16 worlds has earned him many respect from the skating world, peers and fans, he has proved by this absolute master piece he is a true champion

IRC, Sara and her new partner who was just released by Russian Federation need to sit out 1 year before representing Spain to compete in int'l competitions.

Speaking of genes, I saw a clip sometimes ago in which Lisa, Katia & Ilia's daughter competed in US sectional as a novice, she was obviously very talented and such a sweet & adorable girl. So is Himawari, the second generation are emerging :luv17:

I thought they were supposed to sit out a year from the last time her partner competed internationally? Adri and Olivia Smart are already competing and I don't think it's already a year since she got her release...but I'm not very good at remembering this kind of rules and how they work.

I googled Liza. She looks so lovely! Can't believe that she's already a teenager! How time flies.

Back to Javi. I just realized that with him using his current Danny Boy costume, right now he's not skating to any program wearing suspenders...

:eek:topic:wiki tells me Olivia was released by Great Britain association in January 2016 ; Kirill was released by RF in September of the same year and his last competition for Russia is 2015 SCI. I am not very good at these rules either, but thought Sara & Kirill may miss this season. They are training with Zhulin now, guess Montreal's stable is too crowded :scratch2:;

So fake suspenders do not count ;)some fans teased that Patrick and Javi shopped at Uniqlo for their SP costume together and got a "buy 1 get 1 free" deal:laugh2:

Hielo Español and the Spanish fed reported that Sara and Kirill can compete at Spanish Nationals and that the winner will go to Euros. The one who achieves the highest TES in the SD throughout the season will go to Worlds.

Sorry about going off topic....again...

Back to Javi, although his costume is almost identical to Patrick's, the hairstyle gives off a different vibe. It will be interesting to see them both in the same warm up group. I wonder if he will consider changing it, since they are quite similar.

Thanks for the updates, xibsuarz, this is exciting and I cannot wait seeing the debut performance of Sara and Kirill; the later and his ex-partner showed promising future in their junior years. My money is on Sara & Kirill. I am curious to know what vehicles Zhulin gave to this new team; I am getting bored of the cookie-cutter programs produced by Montreal stable.

Javi rarely changes his costume in the middle of his season, doesn't he? The only change I recalled was his pink bow tire shrank half the size at the Euros in 10-11 season, but this does help to make the entire outfit a little bit less ridiculous :sarcasm:

BTW, good luck Javi for the coming Trophee De France this weekend, you are doing great

Thanks a lot, eppen, wish some video clips will be uploaded to youtube later

The 3+3+3 does not sound too likely... But a 3A with 1Lo and something else?

I just finished watching the TSL review of 2016 Rostelecom Cup in which both Dave Lease and guest host Mark Hanretty questioned whether Javi's current technical ante would be competitive enough by 18' Olympics, when his competitors, i.e. Patrick Chan and Hanyu get more consistent with their new jumping elements.

Perhaps Javi's team and Brian Orser has a plan B to squeeze extra BV points when he needs like he did last season, adding 2nd quad to SP & 2nd 3 A to FS:scratch2: it should be.

Thanks eppen for the instagram links!

As for whether Javi will need to add a new jump... well, I'm sure he and Brian are aware of what is happening right now, so I have managed to persuade myself to not think too much about it for now. I'm sure they have their reasons no matter what they decide.

Re: Javi's and Patrick's costumes... I am not sure why they insist on wearing what look like street clothes:laugh: But they are both naturally good looking so I can't be mad:laugh:

:eek:topic: Thanks to xibsuarz for the updates on Sara and Kirill! Like evergreen I think on paper these two look like the best team. But I also have a soft spot for Adri. I'm sure there will be an interesting battle at Nationals!

I assume both of them use Canadian costume designers, which may explain the similarity of their costume, since Canadian, or perhaps North American male skaters (except Johnny Weir) are more accustomed to simple outfit instead of flamboyant style.

At least Patrick's blackbird costume is much better than the one for his SP last season, which he dressed like a middle-aged uncle:noshake:

Thank you, honghe, finally a glance of Javi at rink with his 'papa' coach...

Speaking of Javi's coaches, I am catching up men's competition of SCI (CTV version), Tracy had mentioned Javi's name several times before the 4th skater stepping on the ice, i.e., she mentioned Javi and Michal Březina are the few skaters who landed quads in 10' Olympics..., despite Javi was not one of the competitors out there competing.

Sometimes I feel sorry for Even Lysacek, though I am not his fan, since he always wears the hat as the Olympics Champion without a quad.

More from the first official practices. They let in 4000 French school children, but apparently not skating fans...

I can't remember whether the link to this one has been posted, but here's another photo with Brian and Javi from a couple of days ago: https://www.instagram.com/p/BMjB1odhZqL/
Not from the practice today but looks like they were at some rink;)

:eek:topic: I am not a Evan fan, either. But as for the 2010 Olympics... Well I don't like seeing people using this event to make fun of either Evan or Plushenko. I'm sure they both worked very hard for it, and none of the skaters should be blamed for the results, whether fans like the results or not.
But then again, I'm sure Evan is happy to have that Olympic gold, so I hope he does not read all the unfriendly stuff online.

eppen, wish you have a safe trip and we are waiting for your report of the competition, live or not :luv17: Many thanks for the links.

Why I am amused seeing Javi practicing spins:biggrin:

:eek:topic: continued, Evan is one of the few skaters who would have killed himself in the practice, whose work ethic and competitiveness I highly respect. He won the title as per the IJS rules then. On the other hand, I am not Plushenko's fan either, but still feel pity that his team should have studied rules or use calculator beforehand.

Thanks!! I'm getting more and more excited by the minute and wonder whether I will be able to sleep at all ;) There should be wifi at the arena, but we'll have to see how well it works...

Tatjana Flade's report on Rostelecom contains a few more words from Javi than what has been available elsewhere: http://www.iceskatingintnl.com/
