Hello everybody. I hope you’re all well. I’m glad everyone is still interested in the retrospective. Unfortunately I’ve been super busy at work and that will probably continue for the next several weeks. So I wanted to let you know that the first post in this thread, which Doris recently updated, has links to many of Jason’s programs. They are in reverse chronological order so you have to scroll down for the earlier ones. Many of the links still work, but despite Doris’s tireless work on the update, some don’t as YouTube and other platforms continue to police content and close accounts.

Anyway, I’m going to have to take a backseat on this project for now, but to get you started, here are various versions of Riverdance from the 2013-2014 season. Maybe someone else can take on the SP:

Broadmoor Open: https://vimeo.com/85624715
Glacier Falls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU8144f_01I
Nebelhorn: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tuBK1qnBdlc (Doris, this is a working link)
Skate America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSAFrGZvloE
Trophy Eric Bompard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neRkIObLDGA
Nationals: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vib4fl8N9jY
Sochi practice: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pkjDVPc_qrM
Sochi FS: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uzaecs1ylGo (mislabeled as SP, not sure if team or individual comp)

I hope you enjoy watching the growth of this program.

Whew - that was brutal. :palmf: I didn't think it was all that bad. But to each his own.

I've looked everywhere and can't find a video of Great Gatsby. Saw a Rohene instagram where he showed about 20 seconds of it and kind of announced it as the SP but it wasn't even long enough to identify the music. Anyone?

It goes under the title "Love is Blindness" - it's from the Great Gatsby Soundtrack:

I had never seen the Gatsby program or at least didn't remember it but I really liked it. His footwork was amazing. Thanks for posting.

I found two short programs from 2013/14.

I found a video from the stands at Glacier Falls, what looks like a copy from SKAM. Couldn't find the short program from Nats 2014. Hoping someone else can find that one. In the SKAM video, the angle on the tano lutz shows clearly how he jumps straight up and then starts to turn. Also I didn't find anything for the short from Bompard and haven't searched Sochi yet. This is pre-Olympics.

I loved this program, I also saw it on location at Nepela 2015. Too bad it got shelved, it really showcased the quintessantial Jason charm. He stated it was too hard on his back, just when he was suffering some issues - I wonder if Rohene can tweak and simplify the choreography a little bit and maybe bring it back as an Ex program?

The evolution of this skate from Glacier to Nats is amazing! When you consider that Jason was not expecting to be chosen for the Olympic team or World's in 2014, Nats was presumed to be the end of his season, so he peaked perfectly. Turned out he needed one more peak. He wasn't even originally on the roster for SKAM. What a season that was! And medaling at Bompard against Patrick and Yuzu!

What I noticed was that the arms became more defined and part of the skate, there was no more empty space for skating around. It became more solid and interesting with each skate. The big push forward was between SKAM and Bompard. But Nats just was the culmination of that season. He took himself, his coach and probably the judges by surprise. But by golly, he did it! I watched those back to back and it was quite interesting. Until now, I had only seen Riverdance at Nats and the Olympics, so all of this was new to me. And it only made watching that Nats performance even more exciting. Thank you Tavi! That just made my day!

I've always thought that Jason's choreoraphy gets better and better as the season goes on. Riverdance is a perfect example

What a wonderful idea: the Gatsby program was so challenging: that Finnstep:eeking: but if done as something fun, it could be do-able without injury?

Probably it will be hard to find videos of Jason's Olympic-season Prince because his estate is very, very snippy with copyright and Youtube. I remember it being a problem at the time because the videos would get taken down almost as soon as they went up!

Gatsby will probably be also hard to find because he injured his back before NHK and so he only performed it a couple of times.

Discussion about Riverdance always brings me back to that weekend of the Broadmoor Open, an illicit video, and a thread positively vibrating with "it's good. it's great. it could be special" energy.

As a Johnny-come-Lately to Jason's fanwagon, I didn't know he existed until 2014 Nats. So watching this trajectory of Jason and the program was intensely interesting. I'll probably watch those one after another several times to pick up new things.

I did wonder if the dearth of Prince videos was a copyright issue.

When I have a bit more emotional fortitude, I'll watch the Olympic videos. That Men's free comp was so stressful, between the falls, and Jason skating last and his chances for a bronze, I was totally freaking out. I'm sure I was not alone!

Looking forward to accessing the fund raising virtual show that Jason and Gracie are involved with on the 17th. That should be fun!

The fun thing for me about the Trophee Bompard Riverdance vid is the Kurt Browning and I assume Carol Lane (?) commentary.

To hear them gush about the transitions into his second half jumps was heartwarming, and then for Kurt to say that Jason's KnC reminded him of Rudy Galindo. I would say not quite that exuberant, but still:biggrin:

I watched all of the Olympic coverage that I could on NBCSN and fell in love with Tara and Johnny. They were so honest, informative and fun to listen to. When they got named primary commentators for NBC, I sighed because I knew that NBC would make them do what we all hated about NBC commentators, talking too much and taking center stage. And Tara got kind of nasty. I loved them in Sochi! They were a good team. I still appreciate Johnny's commentary. I can live without Tara's for the most part.

BTW: There is a new interview with Brian out there that does mention Jason. Mostly he talks in general about skating and how they train at TCC, but he specifically said that it was a shame that World's had to be canceled, because Jason's trajectory was really strong at the end of the season and Brian felt that he was going to peak at World's. But they they had made some changes that were working really well and he was sure that they would continue on that trajectory next season. He has good skills to build on. It was in reference to being patient and focused and open to that 18 month period necessary to change technique. Brian also said he'd been watching you tube videos of John Curry and was so impressed at how good he was. Since John Curry was my favorite skater until I saw Jason, it made me happy to hear that. He also said that all the coaches were doing video chats with the skaters to encourage them to do off ice training and keep an eye on technique in doing that training. It was a very good interview.

Here's the link. I don't know know how to shrink it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff5...rqOuRUmle9ubj_kJiLXgP9geDZFi6u8fWzYRXDd8SW7_s

I'm glad Brian thought so too, but really, that makes it all the more anguishing for me. I am really convinced Jason was going to snag that bronze and even land the quad in Montreal. His momentum was that powerful.

Bookseller - do you have a timestamp for when Brian talks about Jason?

It's a little after 23 minutes. But the whole interview is interesting.

Brian is so cute with the folded hands: Jason will do whatever you ask him to do.

We already knew that, Brian:biggrin:
