I have said this many times and I repeat, big jumps are fine, but they are given totally disproportionate points, making other elements pretty much insignificant - this is the major issue. Point distribution should be more balanced, OR set up separate competitions, one jump oriented, and another skating skills oriented--- sort of Alpine skiing, Downhill racers and Slalom specialists have two completely different skills. (although a few excel in both!)

When Jason did his opening pose, I knew the skate would be great. He did not appear nervous at all.

Unfortunately they keep taking down figure skating videos so it will be hard for this one to go viral unless nbc puts it on youtube. Jason's short and long was my favorite thing at this Nationals in the men's field...maybe the whole competition. I clap so long for Jason....wow. Smooth jumps, edges...that's my kind of skating.

Stopping by to say how thrilled I am that Jason won the silver. I find his Schindler's List SO moving. I am thrilled to death he got Worlds!:clapper:

Exactly this. I just dropped all the worry, stress I had waiting for his FS looking at his face and focus oozed from top of his head to spikes of his skates.

And it makes just feel, cruise on this emotional, engaged journey Jason take people on - the amount of how devoted/consumed he is able to get while performing really elevates every other quality of his skate into special level. He invests so much of himself on a very in-depth scale into music, choreography, performance it all becomes just one, seamless creation that embodies art, not only proclaims it by name.

I have said the same thing sooooo many times. I’ve suggested “skate jumping” and “figure skating.”

Jason's performances this weekend were so special. he is a skater who has EVERYTHING but a quad, and to me that doesn't matter because of the outstanding and exceptional quality of everything else he does. his triples are some of the best i have ever seen- his posture, speed, air position and distance are the best in the business. his flexibility is rare for a male skater. his spins are fast, perfectly centered and beautifully positioned. his skating skills, artistry and ability to emote are the standard. he truly is such a very special and unique skater in a field where everyone else is trying to do the highest number of quads in a program. the true full package.

Is there anyone who is heading to Montreal for WC in support of Jason???? I ask this because I had a banner made to bring to Nebelhorn before I found out he wouldn't be there. I would be really honoured if anyone can raise it for me in Montreal!
It is 140 (or maybe 150? can't remember precisely...) x 80. I will send it to you, but perhaps it is more convenient for someone who intends to drive over there, rather than flying, because the package is a bit bulky (long solid tube) - I had made it in a thick material - the last ones I made were too flimsy so I wanted to make sure this one wasn't going to be semi-transparent! (maybe a way to carefully fold it and make it more compact can be possible, though...)
Shame that I can't post the image here, but the basic concept is this with Jason Brown written in the Schindler's List logo and a silhouette of his spiraling image added on.
If anyone is interested, pleas PM me :

I’m very glad you posted your banner, @MGStyle, it captures the emotion and passion of Jason’s SL.

I hope someone can take it :hap85:

And he has a quad now. :) He landed some gorgeous 4Ts in practice and warmup at Nats. It is a matter of time before he's landing them cleanly in competition.

The banner is beautiful. Wish I was going to Worlds and could take it for you. We looked into going but the cost was really outrageous for lodging and tickets. I hope you can find someone.

I'm going to be there. What are the rules for hanging banners. Our seats are first row but way up above the ice. If we can hang it in front of our seats. I might be able to do that. I'll check with my seatmates and also try to find out what is allowed. All the good seats were gone before the full event sale opened and this was the best we could do.

Here is what the web site says.

Handheld flags and fan signs are permitted in the arena, however, must not obstruct the view of or distract other patrons in the stands. ]Larger fan banners that are intended to be hung in the arena will NOT be permitted inside Centre Bell. Skate Canada reserves the right to remove any banners and is not responsible for any damaged or lost items. Airhorns and noisemakers requiring batteries or compressed air are not permitted in the arena. Small handheld noisemakers may only be used following a skater’s program or during ice resurfacing.

If there is any way to get permission, let me know. I guess there are too many skaters and they can't handle it.

Thank you @Bookseller! There had been one inquiry already, but she hasn't confirmed yet. (She is going with her family, husband and her daughter so the size of my banner wouldn't obstruct other people.) I will wait for her reply but I will put you second in line!!!! :agree: We still have plenty of time. In the meantime you might want to contact the event organizers for more info on fan items!

GSers have been amazed and enthralled by Jason since at least November of 2009:
https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?29679-Jason-Brown-and-Max-Aaron&highlight=brown

By 2010, when he hit the JGP at 15, he already had many enthusiastic fans here:
https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?29679-Jason-Brown-and-Max-Aaron&highlight=brown

I first saw Jason in 2011, at Greensboro. He did not attempt a 3A. He was unknown, except by serious skating fans who watched the JGP in those pre Ted Barton days. He got two standing ovations!

Here is a quote from Phil Hersh's article on the subject

Brown, now 5-5, said he had grown 4 inches since the 2010 nationals.
...
But Lysacek's barely noticed 11th-place free skate at his first senior nationals was a far cry from the dazzling effort Sunday that earned Brown seventh in the free skate and rousing acclaim from the Greensboro Coliseum crowd.

"It was a dream come true to get the audience to stand,'' Brown said.

With his long hair tied in a ponytail that bounced off his neck as he flew around the rink, Brown had huge jumps, striking speed on his speeds and leg extension worthy of a ballet leading man.
...
With the problems caused by his growth, Brown and Ade, his coach of 11 years, decided to put off trying the triple axel for another season.

"In his first year as a senior, it was more important to show everyone he could skate,'' Ade said. "Jason has really proved he is a solid competitor.''

Brown goes on from here to the World Junior Championships, Feb. 28 to March 6 in South Korea. He likely will continue to compete on the Junior Grand Prix circuit for a season or two more.

I was part of that standing , stomping, clapping crowd in Greensboro. I guess I still am. I was there, doing the same thing in Boston 2014 (Riverdance) and Greensboro 2015 (winning his one National title to Tristan and Isolde). I am so sad I will not get to see him live this year. Jason is better live, more riveting. His connection to his music more clear.

I was completely overjoyed, (after I got over my bout with the Kleenex box) after Jason's freeskate to Schindler's List. I always cheer for him to skate well, so I will get to see him two more times at least in any given season. If he medals, that's lovely, but the point to being a Jason fan is to watch the performance, as it is with any work of art.

And make no mistake, SL is a serious work of art. I hope to see an even better version at either Worlds or 4Cs.

I wish I could be there.
