No. That is way too harsh.
Samuel Bode Miller (/ˈboʊdiː/; born October 12, 1977) is a World Cup alpine ski racer with the U.S. Ski Team.
He is an Olympic and World Championship gold medalist, a two-time overall World Cup champion in 2005 and 2008, and so the most successful male American alpine ski racer of all time (with only Lindsey Vonn surpassing him).
Miller is one of the greatest World Cup racers of all time with 33 victories, and one of five men to win World Cup events in all five disciplines.[1] In November 2004, Miller became the 5th and last man to win World Cup races in all 5 disciplines: slalom, giant slalom, Super-G, downhill, and combined − and today he is the only one with five or more victories in each discipline. In 2008, Miller and Lindsey Vonn won the overall World Cup titles for the first U.S. sweep in 25 years.
He has won five medals in the Winter Olympics, the most of any U.S. skier − two silvers (giant slalom and combined) in Salt Lake City 2002, and a gold (super combined), a silver (Super G) and a bronze (downhill) in Vancouver 2010. Miller is one of 5 skiers who have won Olympic medals in 4 different disciplines, matching the feats of Kjetil André Aamodt and female racers Anja Pärson, Janica Kostelić, and Katja Seizinger.[2]
He has won six discipline World Cups. In May 2007, Miller left the U.S. Ski Team[3][4] and raced independently for his personally-financed "Team America" for 2 seasons. Miller departed the 2009 season before its completion and rejoined the U.S. Ski Team in October 2009.

He has done stuff no one else has. He has 5 Olympic medals, including a gold. How can anyone be all.that disappointed at him?

And he's a maverick in the best sense. Tells it like it is and is willing to take his lumps. Three cheers for Bode!

Always hyped, always a letdown.

...you only watch Alpine once every four years (and skipped Vancouver), right? The guy is one of the best alpine skier of his generation, there aren't too many of his peers that have/had a better career than him. He has world cup wins in every discipline, 33 career wins overall, has two big crystal globes and 6 small crystal globes and he's finished first or second in the season standing of every discipline. He's also a world and Olympic champion (and a five time Olympic medallist) but, frankly, in alpine skiing a crystal globe is more indicative of a great skier than Olympic and world medals.

Not sure how anything about Bode's career was a "letdown". Sure he would have been able to win more Olympic medal but, heck, Didier Cuche (the greatest downhill specialist of his generation) has no Olympic gold medal and only one medal overall. Five Olympic medals is about as much as anyone could ever get over a career.

He needed to be given more credit for his amazing performance in Vancouver!!!

He said he should've gotten LASIK for his vision.

I suspect that's right. You could tell on tv that the light was very flat during the actual downhill, vs. the training runs where Bode was awesome, and that can be a real difficulty especially if you have any vision issues.

Congrats to Bode Miller on tying for the bronze medal in the Super G event! This is is sixth Olympic medal, tying him with Bonnie Blair for second in OWG medals.

Watching the primetime coverage, he broke down during the interview after talking about his brother.

But there's too much wifey shots.

He is now the oldest medalist ever in Alpine skiing. Another record to add to hid many records.

I wondered about that. Did I miss something because I never see the spouses of the other skiiers get to share camera time.

For the last several Olympics they've played up Bode Miller as the playboy of the slopes... now they're trying to play him up as a family man.

Thought the interviewer (and NBC) was pretty stupid for pushing him into an emotional moment. Okay, lady, we get it, his brother is dead and you want to see tears. LET. IT. GO.

Not a fan of Miller - but REALLY not a fan of harping at an athlete about an emotional subject just for a soundbite. What's worse NBC aired it. So much for integrity (as if NBC had any).

Wow, that is really classy of him and lovely. I am liking him so much these days. He seems humbled, and he seems so much more profound and vulnerable.

From the Bode fluff, which I was not paying a whole lot of attention to, didn't he meet his wife at the last Olympics, and she was a fellow skiier (I am not sure of the discipline though) In which case, I am not surprised that she's right there.

Was not paying much attention to the fluff either, but NBC showed photos of her as a beach volleyball player (or so it seemed to me). FWIW, I did not get the impression that she was a skier??

I'm happy that Miller was able to win another medal! I didn't know he had vision troubles - and that does explain a lot about the differences in his runs at different times of day.

Congrats to Bode! Nice to see two legends like Miller and Plushenko still be able to execute even at their ages.

Also, did anyone see that 41-year old ski jumper from Japan, Noriaki Kasai, who won individual silver?!
