Kiira Linda Katriina Korpi is a former Finnish figure skater. She was born on 26 September 1988.

Korpi is the first Finnish skater to win a Grand Prix event (2010 Trophee Bompard) and the first Finnish skater to qualify for the Grand Prix Final (2012).

She is a three-time European medalist (bronze in 2007 and 2011, silver in 2012), the 2010 Trophée Eric Bompard champion, the 2012 Rostelecom Cup champion, a two-time Cup of China medalist, and a five-time Finnish national champion (2009, 2011–2013 and 2015). She retired from competitive skating in August 2015.

Kiira's father, Rauno Korpi, coached the Finnish women's hockey team to a bronze medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics and won National titles with his club Tappara Tampere. In Finland Kiira's nickname is Jääprinsessa (Ice Princess) due to her resemblance to Grace Kelly, the former Princess of Monaco. She became engaged to Arthur Borges Seppälä in May 2017 and is now married to him.

Original Post by YesWay
Finnish figure skater Kiira Korpi was born on 26 September 1988 in Tampere, Finland.

In our household, we have always thought Kiira was one of the most graceful and elegant of the ladies skaters, and also one of the most glamorous and charming.

We saw her "live" at Finlandia Trophy 2012, and she seemed such a nice personality too - after the competition, there were literally hundreds of children clamouring for her autograph all around the rink. She was still wearing her performance outfit, and must have been cold - but she stayed out there til she'd gotten to all them - over an hour I think.

I thought that year was going to be her best season ever - she started the GP so well with Bronze in China and gold in Russia. She was the first Finnish skater to reach the GPF and came 4th. But alas, she had to withdraw from the European championships and World's with injury.

And this season 2013-2014, she still hasn't been able to compete due to ongoing injuries. I am hoping that she will be back for 2014-2015, because if not... I am very much afraid she will just retire instead. I think that would be a sad loss, not just for Finland, but for skating generally.

She tries very hard to heal herself and come back. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt is her doctor now. So she is in Germany right now. Carlos Ávila de Borba is her coach now. And she hopes to get back to California in the spring and Rafael Arutunianin would be her coach there. She was there last summer before the new injury. She is not thinking about retiring. She wants to improve herself with the new coaches. I think she is very motivated to come back.

That's good to hear. I hope she can stay injury-free next season.

I wonder if she will go to the World Championships, as a spectator, while she is in Japan?

Yes, I think so. (<- in this case, should I say 'I bet!'?, or 'You bet!'???? oh, English for me is still difficult! especially when picking up very easy words and/or imitative/mimetic words, which babies and children are very good at! )

Kiira will be coming to Japan next week, actually! :) https://twitter.com/FinnairJapan https://twitter.com/FinnairJapan/status/444654579074875392/photo/1
She is just gorgeous. Too gorgeous, so that ordinary women like me wouldn't even feel 'jealous' of her.

I know what you mean, Deedee. I never aspire to look like someone like Kiira. I'm just glad that such beauty is in the world. :) And she seems nice, too.

(In answer to your last question, I'd say "You bet!" To me, the implication of "I bet!" is sarcastic, while "You bet!" is "You can be certain of it.")

Thanks a lot for being always very nice to me and for answering my questions about the language (some of which might sound a bit stupid sometimes ;)) , Olympia! :)

My pleasure, Deedee. Your English is already excellent, by the way. And there are no silly language questions. You should hear us at the office sometimes, when we're editing something. Even when English is all one speaks, there's sometimes confusion over a usage issue or a preposition. The finer points of idioms from language to language are always tricky, anyway--but isn't that part of the fun?

And some idioms are funny in the way they relate to one another. For example, though down and up are opposites, burn down and burn up mean just about the same thing. Likewise, it means just about the same thing to fill in a form and to fill out a form. I'm sure other languages have equivalent oddities in them.

As for Kiira, I do hope she can recover and continue skating. She brings something special to skating, and I'm always happy to see Finland having a presence in international skating. I hope a new young crop of skaters can take the stage from there soon.

^^great to know. My friend in Finland often calls her the princess. She was so sad when Kiira didn't compete in Finlandia Trophy, I guess she will be happy now.

According to the news, Kiira will compete at Golden Spin.

http://www.iltasanomat.fi/muutlajit/art-1288748882517.html

I hope this is true! I don't usually trust to the news of yellow papers. There's no source of this news (did they call Kiira or her manager or how did they found this news). And the announcement to Zagreb is no later than 6th November... I mean, how is it possible that Iltasanomat would know this. They have mentioned this competition in STLL's page but it has been there for ages so it really doesn't mean anything. I don't want to be negative or anything like that! Kiira is really my all-time-favourite skater and only thing I wish is that she could be healthy and compete again! I hope Iltasanomat has a trustworthy source for this news! :)

So you haven't found any legitimate source about Kiira competing in Golden spin, except the above link?

I haven't. This is the only page that could be more trustworth but it seems the plans were made many months ago when they knew Kiira wouldn't be ready for the early season competitions. It says also that Kiira could go to Warsaw cup. So there are plans but we don't know if they are going to happen. I really wish they would!

We assume she will compete in Golden Spin of Zagreb in the beginning of December. She needs some ISU competition before EC and WC. She hasn't GP spots because she missed whole last season because of achilles injury.
