Stéphane Lambiel, born on April 2, 1985, is a retired Swiss figure skater who currently serves as a coach and choreographer. He achieved notable success in his competitive career, securing two World championship titles (2005–2006), winning the Olympic silver medal in 2006, clinching two Grand Prix Final championships (2005, 2007), and earning the title of Swiss national champion nine times (2001–08, 2010). Lambiel is particularly recognized for his exceptional spins and is credited with introducing and popularizing certain spin positions.

Distinguishing himself from the majority of figure skaters, Lambiel possesses the unique ability to execute spins and jumps in both counter-clockwise and clockwise directions. Notably, he was proficient in performing successive double Axels, altering his rotation direction between each one, although he discontinued training this skill. Lambiel faced challenges with recurring injuries in both knees, leading to the necessity of missing exhibitions and training sessions. However, these issues were successfully resolved in 2009. Additionally, he actively contributed to the design of his own costumes.

In 2014, he founded Skating School of Switzerland in Champéry. He has choreographed programs for many skaters and is also a coach.

He was an artist and I was always sorry when he had mistakes at his jumps because he could have been the best skater ever. No matter the falls, it was a pleasure to watch him in competitions and a proof that figure skating is not all about jumping.

He has done some good choreography for others lately. Does anyone have links to what show programs he is doing lately?

I love Stephane, too. :) I am so glad that he still is very busy doing choreography, tv and ice shows...he seems to be everywhere these days!

Has anyone seen this old video of him aged 16? It's not the best quality, unfortunately...but I think it's so cute and you can see even then that this was going to be a very special skater.

OMG Thank you.
Stephane is my FAVORITE male skater hands down!!!!!!!
He brought so much to the sport. I just can't even express how much I love his skating.
He is one of the few who can interpret any piece of music in the most beautiful way. He is also one of the few who I can tell really get into character during competition performances. And He had some utterly amazing performances... and his quad-triples and triple axels..dang!!!
I almost like his exhibition programs better because he can truly show off his skating skills and artistry with no limits.
I'm obsessed with his " Hurts- Water" program :bow:
He just needs to never stop skating because I never get tired of watching him!

 the "magical zebra with wings" costume...a classic! I found this montage on Youtube with him talking about it as well as some other funny lines ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HgbUA0ksdc

So many nice programs of his have been mentioned. "The Water" is great, one of my faves along with "Don't Stop The Music"...

This one is fun too - "I Don't Wanna Be" (he sings along with the music, so cute!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrCBIH-Y9cc

I first saw Stephane in the QR at Worlds in Washington, DC, in 2003. He did an amazing program. I think the music was the Chocolat soundtrack. Since the QR was never broadcast in the US, I thought I would never see it again, but it is on youtube!

Absolutely. I also love that he takes his EX programs seriously. The lack of required elements allows for so much freedom, and he really takes advantage of that freedom to fully interpret the music, while still incorporating difficulty and complexity.

This is one of my favourite EX programs of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNH5GwqWKzU

I am so glad that he is still skating at shows, and his programs still leave me in awe.

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this...it's a half-hour tv documentary where Stephane visited Japan after the earthquake. In the first part of the show, he visits the skate shop and rink in Sendai (the famous rink where Yuzuru and Shizuka Arakawa trained...they are mentioned briefly, but not in the video). It must have been soon after the rink re-opened, and he gives a skating lesson to some children there. In the second part of the video he goes to visit a young speed-skater who lost her home and father in the quake. He seems so caring and sweet. The video is all in English, btw.
