There was a discussion about the difference in the amount of luggage being carried by the TJ members when they arrived from Sochi in the Daisuke thread, and someone said that as Yuzuru had a press briefing upon his arrival, someone might have gotten his checked in luggage for him. Certainly Yuzuru had much more luggage when he arrived in Sochi: http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Yuzuru+Hanyu+Winter+Olympics+Press+Conference+m3Oj9ImzBA8l.jpg. :)

BTW, I believe the man on his left is his father, the vice-principal. Can someone confirm (or zoom in on his ID)?

It was the white haired-sensei who's always with Yuzu that was helping him with his luggage  I just thought it looked really funny in the picture comparison haha

Yes the difference in amount is striking :). Isn't the white haired gentleman his doctor?

I believe so =D

 I just read a post by someone that said Chris Reed's going into surgery on the 30th for his knee injury (his 4th time ), I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can just take it easy for now.. http://ameblo.jp/reed-icedance-blog/

He sounds so frustrated and seems to be struggling with the situation  I never really followed ice dancing but I've always found the Reed's to be really adorable (whenever I see TJ interactions) and its terrible how some people are so mean to them despite all their efforts :disapp: Ganbatteru!

I hope Chris Reed's surgery goes well and they don't quit competition. Really enjoyed their programs this last season or so... great costumes too... and their skating has improved noticably despite Chris' knee problems all season.

My best wishes and prayers for Chris's successful knee surgery. He must have been suffering some distress during the intense Olympic season because of his knee condition that would require such surgery.

The man on his left seems to be a JSF staff. He is listed here at the bottom right.
http://www.joc.or.jp/games/olympic/sochi/sports/figure/team/

The grey haired man is also listed here as a trainer. He is not a medical doctor, but a bonesetter (接骨師) from Sendai. Kind of like a chiropractor I think.

I saw a picture of Yuzuru's father a couple of months ago, but can't remember where I saw it and don't know how I searched for it because I wasn't looking for his father at the time.

Thanks mikaboo for the clarification. It's good to know who's who in Yuzuru's team as we see them a lot in photos and videos.

PS I see that the list of Japan's figure skating delegation to Sochi that you provided is proving to be a source of amusement in much the same way as looking at old class yearbooks. ;)

From magical eggplant with wings Tumblr blog:

"Dai, Nobu & Tatsuki Q&A from the Kansai Univ. honor ceremony

I’m retranslating this from a Chinese fan blog; sorry if there are any mistakes! Thanks to the original translator~

Q: If you weren’t a skater, what job would you want to have?
Dai: Architect, makeup artist, dancer, lots of other things…
Nobu: Civil servant. Because it’s stable.
Tatsuki: A doctor.

.

...of Philosophy (PhD)

I was just watching some more Team Japan videos and I really love Haruka Imai's skating!

She doesn't have the best landings on her jumps but she's got the best edges and definitely the fastest of the Japanese ladies. So much speed! I think her only problem is just controlling that wonderful speed going into her jumps.

Hope she has a good next season!

I think it's really only this year she's been skating like that - I was surprised, and so were many others.

I always thought her skating was very elegant, graceful and lovely to watch. I enjoyed her programs. But she seemed "stuck" for years, and I'd kind of given up on her making any further progress. Then this last year... a sudden, huge improvement in her skills, speed and confidence. She really attacks those jumps, and commits to them now... and lands them... and stays on her feet!

I am hoping she has another good season too! I hope she can keep improving like that! With Suzuki retiring and maybe Asada... Murakami in a slump... and most of the "junior" ladies (apart from Miyahara) yet to make their mark in senior competition... right now might be her best chance to shine.

Wow, thank you for the link! Such a beautiful video, especially with the Bolero arrangement Japan has been using for figure skating every year. Team Japan is truly the best and most cohesive team of all.

I'll add a team Japan group EX program from when they won World Team Trophy back in 2012. They were adorable

Editing to add a video from Japan Super Challenge 2008. Spot a 13 year old Yuzuru in Daisuke's team. He was so tiny.

Welcome ionap! Thank you too for the precious videos! TJ being both adorable and adorkable! Looove that pair lift and spin from Daisuke and Kanako! And "tiny" really describes Yuzuru then! :)
