Aljona Savchenko (Ukrainian: Олена Валентинівна Савченко, Olena Valentynivna Savčenko; German Romanization: Aljona Sawtschenko, sometimes Aliona Savchenko) and Bruno Massot are pairs skaters representing Germany.
Savchenko was born on 19 January 1984, in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union (now Ukraine).
Massot was born on 28 January 1989 in Caen, France.
They are the 2018 Olympic Champions, 2018 World Champions, and 2017/18 GPF winners. They are 2017 world silver and 2016 world bronze medalists. They also won two silver medals at European Championships (2016 and 2017). At a national level, they are two-time German Pairs Champions (2016 and 2018). The team qualified for the 2016-17 Grand Prix Final, but had to withdraw due to Aljona's injury.
Aljona is one of the most decorated pair skaters. Apart from being the 2018 Olympic Champion with Bruno Massot, with Robin Szolkowy, his former partner, she is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist (2010, 2014) and a five-time World Champion.
Aljona and Bruno teamed up in March 2014 following the post-Olympic split of Savchenko/Szolkowy. Robin decided to retire from competitive skating while Aljona wanted to pursue her dream of becoming an Olympic Champion. After initial problems with Bruno's releasing by the French Federation (the couple decided to represent Germany), he was finally allowed to represent Germany in October 2015. The couple made their international debut at the 2015 CS Tallinn Trophy where they won the gold medal. In November 2017, Massot received German citizenship, allowing the pair to compete for Germany at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Starting from 2018/2019 season ISU introduced new scoring system, commonly known as "+5 / -5 GOE" which resulted in archiving all the records obtained prior to the 2018/2019 season and defining them as historic. Under historic statistics, Aljona and Bruno are record holders as regards the best FS score (162.86) and the best Total score (245.84). Both results were achieved during the 2018 World Championships.
Following 2017/2018 season Aljona and Bruno decided to sit up the next season and did not make any final declarations as to their future.
Until the end of 2017/18 season they were coached by Alexander König (the 1988 European bronze medalist in Pair Skating with Peggy Schwarz) and Jean-Francois Ballester.
