Yes, I believe the cast is rehearsing in Moscow as we speak...Yana & a couple other skaters have posted on IG from the rink, and Johnny's there as well.

Thank you for translating, Sandpiper. It sounds like Brian hasn't even watched much ballet...a lot of the male dancers are very buff indeed. Much moreso than your typical male figure skater (well, singles skaters anyway).

How do we get Plushy into a pair of tights now? :slink:

Oh, that is cruel! Think of poor Meoima's cats - they need their food! And if it's both of them at the same time.... well, if she disappears for a few days, we'll all have to mount a rescue mission and descend upon her home from our various corners of the globe... And, of course, to accompany our heroic action, this will be the appropriate music:

My cats surely will eat me up if I faint for a few days and forget to fed them. Ha ha ha... but the idea of Plushy in a pair of tights... how nice...:love:

In mini-bus I made a "mini interview" with Brian Joubert. He's tired of the competition and not thinking at all about it... About his participation in french "Dancing with stars" tv show, he said that dancing on the floor is quite difficult for him, especially working with a partner (lifting etc...). When I asked him about his career in Pairs, with Katarina Gerboldt - he did not seem convincing, he treated it more as a "hobby", an interesting thing to try. He said that it is too late for him to change the discipline. In the show "Snow King", he will more "glaiding" and "act" together with Katarina, than to perform elements from Pairs - especially lifting.

@Gallavich
Yeah, from what it looks like on the show, Brian really wasn't confident about his ballet abilities. I'm both surprised and not surprised: On one hand, I thought all elite figure skaters had some form of ballet training, and would do better than the average person (Stojko being the exception, of course, since he was interested in martial arts. A lot of the training/positions there are the very opposite of ballet); on the other hand, ballet really didn't seem like Brian's thing, and I've seen little of its influence on his programs over the years. But I think it's kinda cool we got a figure skating champion who isn't influenced by ballet at all. :)

@Plushyfan
Thank you for the interview info. I'm a bit sad we likely won't see Brian in competition again, but I understand his decision. Or maybe he's just exhausted after yet another competition (Danse avec les stars), plus having to do shows on the side, ect. I can see why he's not in a competitive mood right now.

As a side note, his lifts in Danse avec les stars looked quite good, and I'm surprised he's actually not very confident about them.

Oh man, I forgot he had a tattoo! Does anyone know what it is? I've been trying to figure that out for ages

It's a tree, and I think it's a family tree: its branches form a S, an A (Brian's sisters are named Sarah and Alexandra) and other letters (a G?).

thank you for the interview. It's sad that we might not see Brian in the competition again. But it's reasonable, if he switched to pair only in iceshow, there's no problem at all. I hope he will be alright.

Well, I'm not going to assume that there will be no Gerboldt/Joubert - just as I didn't assume that there would. We'll see. Maybe just now what he needs is to take it easy... er... well, you know what I mean.;) But, after a while, the hunger for competition may come back. We'll see.:)

Unless he's one of those extremely stubborn goal-oriented types like Plushy, I can't see anything particularly attractive about trying to compete in pairs. It must be difficult enough just to learn the basics at 30 years old, let alone move countries (and to Russia in particular), deal with another federation + the stress of competing in a country already rich with pairs, etc. And what about his menagerie and dear Maman? Show skating would seem to be the better option on so many levels. But I also wonder what Katarina's expectations are...because if they don't compete, then where will the money come from to pay for coaching, etc. while they are still in the beginning stages of training? Quite a conundrum. :confused:

Well, time will tell... meanwhile we can follow the story as it unfolds with all its "to be continues". This reminds me not so much of a soap as the endings of the '60s Batman series - with each episode ending with all those questions: "Will Brian ramain firm in his determination to renounce his pairs dream? Will Katarina Gerboldt change his mind - or hers? How will the coaching difficulties be overcome? To be continued, in next week's episode of.... Brian Joubert, Pair Skater Extraordinaire!"

Note: If anyone can suggest better names for this drama, please feel free to offer them! That was just what came to mind at the moment.

Well, this is a thread I never thought would exist!

Happy to be counted in as I have been a "Brian fan" since I first saw him compete - Lausanne Europeans 2002, the first of 10 straight European medals (which is quite an achievement as European Championships is a huge event for European skaters & we have had a lot of excellent skaters during that time).

I have enjoyed his skating (guess I like dinosaurs!) - the athleticism & (in more recent years) his great edging; his generosity with the fans & his charisma. I like that he is close to his family, friends & hometown & also loves animals.

Most of all, I admire his courage & determination - every time he was down, he got back up fighting again!

Thanks for that lovely post, Sheena!

And I agree with everything you said. Including about this thread ever existing - I thought that if ever I did start it, I'd be rattling about here on my own lonesome - and without encouragent, I never would have started it. And... it's going swimmingly! It's so nice to discover that there are others out there who appreciate Brian.:)

Maybe the introduction helps when someone is randomly browsing Vimeo and comes across the video?
