Finally the Pairs skaters get a chance to shine on the JGP circuit. They are really struggling for numbers though, 7 pairs from 4 countries is disappointing. Is Canada not eligible to send a second pair? Where are the Chinese?

I expected F/M to win the SP but the Canadians delivered a strong performance with a new PB. I nearly didn't recognise Lena when she appeared on the ice, she is so grown up but still tiny. I was disappointed with their 2L, edge call and a wonky landing, I was really hoping that their jumps would have improved over the summer. If they are going to mix it in the senior ranks, triple jumps will be required. They skated to Michael Buble with vocals and it worked really well (vocals in some programmes are very annoying), sky high triple twist, nice lift and throws. They did the Bielman combination spin but were out of sync, he is very flexible.

The Canadians skated very strongly, loved their entry in to their tano lutz but from a PCS view I would have F/M clearly in the lead. I liked the second Russian G/A, they are only together a few months, they only had a double twist but again loved their lutz would both hands over the head.

According to the announcement above, on page 17, China, Russia, US, and Canada are all eligible to send THREE pairs to each of the 4 events. Italy, Czech Republic, Japan, Germany, Hong Kong, and Latvia are eligible to send 2 pairs to each of the 4 events.

It's likely a combination of not enough pairs teams existing for some of the smaller countries and some pairs being age ineligible (either the female half too young or the male half too old).
