Thanks for the update, Katmari. I love to see who Rohene is working with, so I know what ladies to watch, but I think this could be a great pairing:agree:

Now we know why he is in LA!:)

He's also working with Vivian Le in addition to Karen. I generally like Rohene's choreography so hope these are good programs.

I really want Karen to work with a jump specialist this off season. Her jumps are HUGE but slower rotation :( I really want her to shine of the GP this season, as she hasn’t been able to in the past.

I wish she would switch coaches or, like you said, at the very least work with a jump specialist on the off season. There's too much potential for it to go to waste :(

Since Nathan CHEN will go to the YALE, is there any information about which College Karen choose?

really? I can understand Nathan and Vincent took a gap year because of the Olympic season. But for Karen, WHY???

people can choose to take gap years for various reasons, whether or not they're elite athletes. University is a big commitment. Maybe she wants to focus on skating, maybe she doesn't know what she wants to do, etc.

You know, we asian parents always want their kids to graduate as early as possible.:scratch2: But if Karen take a gap year, I really want her to fix her underrotation issue. She jumps so high and it shouldn't exist. Maybe she should learn from Nathan and Japanese girls to increase the rotation speed. Still, hope she enjoy her gap year.

That is my local paper and kinda can’t believe they covered this. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like she comes across too well in this article.

It sounds like she hasn’t even applied to colleges yet - let alone gotten accepted to U of M.

Possibly University of Michigan - https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/04/17/olympian-karen-chen-lands-in-a-mess-with-former-bootmaker/

A couple other skaters' 2018-19 college admissions: Vincent Zhou - University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (his interview), Alexandra Yao - Columbia University (her instagram)

Don't want anyone to misinterpret your post, so will underline that Karen should not be lumped into the category of "2018-19 college admissions."

Sounds as if she has not even applied to colleges yet. Maybe(??) she eventually will end up at UMich, maybe not.

But she also faces a big transition with applying to colleges that will determine where she trains.
Throughout the two-month Stars on Ice tour, she has been based in Canton, Michigan, where brother Jeffrey Chen trains as an ice dancer.
Karen said the University of Michigan is a possibility but she also will explore schools on the East Coast and the University of California campuses.

Nitpicking, but Yao's name is Alexandria.

And sorry to go off topic, but has Vincent said definitively in an interview that he is going to UCCS?
I know that he said he "probably" would go to college in Colorado Springs. And I assume that it would be no problem for him to be admitted to UCCS.
But do you know whether he has confirmed that he is going to attend UCCS?

Glad to know that Avanta was not the reason that Karen withdrew from Worlds. At least I think that is what the article meant.

Chen declined to explain why she didn’t compete a year after finishing fourth.
“It’s not that I am uncomfortable talking about it but it’s just that I have moved on from it,” the skater said. “It’s best for me to not talk about it anymore.”
The situation, though, had nothing to do with Avanta.
“I’m not one to back down and I’ve always been one to keep pushing and not be afraid to fail,” she said. But “we felt like with the circumstances it was probably best to sit it out and just figure things out.”

ETA:
Forgot to say that the article is wrong about Mirai. She has been wearing Edea boots for at least a season or two. No longer wearing Jackson boots.

That’s how I read it as well - that the Avanta issue wasn’t why she withdrew from worlds.

Genuinely curious if withdrawing from worlds could affect her reputation or standing with USFSA?

Thanks for correcting my misspelling of Alexandria's name. Can't remember where I read that Vincent interview. Maybe I get it wrong or maybe it's another college in Colorado Springs. There are several good/better colleges in Colorado Springs, i.e., Air force Academy and Colorado College. Regarding Karen's college applications, I thought they should be for 2018-19 to have relevance to Karen's training location for the coming season.

It seems clear from the article that she hasn’t gotten her college acceptances yet

And um I think there is no way that Vincent could enroll at the Air Force Academy and still continue his training - lol
