Agreed. I'd hoped they would show the gold medal performances from pairs and dance, but we didn't even get that. :disapp:

Because NBC's broadcast today was only ninety minutes -- an even bigger time crunch than usual -- the absence of pairs and dance was not surprising (although still regrettable). (The other GPs get two hours.)

They didn't spare even a moment to mention that today is Terry Gannon's birthday. :hb:

ETA, NBC showed also some brief comments from Max Aaron and from Ashley Wagner about their results. :)

There coverage was pathetic: no pairs or dance.

NBC's coverage is pathetic by INTENT. The terms by which NBC officially contracted to cover the Grand Prix series was to specifically feature Mens' and Ladies' singles.
One would think in the year after the history making Olympic gold of Davis and White, and the obvious continued strength and podium-worthiness of American ice dance this season, there MIGHT be some effort to include dance. But that would be ... forward thinking and thus, obviously, unrealistic.

ITA. That's why we have to re-order Universal Sports to our cable service. Seriously, it is a travesty that pairs and ice dance are totally ignored on NBC network programming (and I say this even though the men's discipline is my favorite). I want to see all four disciplines on network TV. NBC should understand that not everyone can afford icenetwork.com (or be forced to watch it on a computer) & adding extra cable service. Greedy NBC! :bang:

Please share where/how you were able to read NBC's contract with the ISU.

Lucky you to see it with your own eyes. I would love to do the same. Thank you.

Doubt the ISU makes any demands from TV regarding what the US network eventually produces. It is just happy to have TV coverage and $$$ from its international events. Having worked in sports TV for 10 years, the producers are still mostly men and think Americans are only interested in Ladies skating since that's all they care about.

They could have left off Javier's short program and Hicks free skate----and maybe had some time to show something from dance and pairs. Since this was not live, they could have edited out some of the wait time for scores, which would have released some time too.

NBC didn't show dance at Skate America when Americans were 1-2, so no way are they going to show the Canadian winners. Sad of course.

They didn't show dance at Skate America last year either. With our only real shot for Olympic Gold coming from Davis & White! You'd think the networks would eventually realize that the real "women" in the sport are in the dance event. In part, we're still suffering from all Tracy Wilson's commentary about how dance is "rigged." The networks don't recognize ice dance as a sport. And, of course, we suffer from a history of Americans not being competitive. But we've been in the medals for over a decade now, and our medal hopes have been far superior in dance than ladies ever since Turino. Dance is the only event we consistently earn a full three slots for at Worlds. This year I actually sat down at lunch in two different workplaces & heard other people--NOT skating fans--bemoaning Charlie getting kicked off Dancing with the Stars. Still no network ice dance coverage. Sigh.
