Thursday! Yes, NC did a quad and despite the bit of a stepout got credit for it...did they show the sound system breaking down, disrupting skaters and the schedule? Other highs beside NC were Leah Keiser, Karen Chen, Carly Gold and Caroline Zhang skating without a coach but doing pretty good for herself. Us four fans moved over to the area near the coach's area and the Kiss and Cry as it is quieter there with few people and no family members screaming. We have given the announcer the name of "Mumbles" but if we try we can hear him. The radient overhead heaters are keeping us alive. Saw Yasa and she said the facilities were pretty good except it was hard for her students to find a place to jog, exercise. Karen Kwan's husband is here. It is hard to take photos in the poor light but I have posted a few...the crowd, Naomi Nari Nam, coach's row, Leah Keiser's costume, etc. Will take a bit better camera today and see what I can do.

Just checked the protocols and saw that Nathan did a 4T! Now that's a surprise. I didn't even realize he was training the jump.

Is Katia and Ilia's daughter not competing this year? (I didn't see her on the PC entries list.)

Liza Kulik was registered for Intermediate Ladies at the Southwest Pacific Regionals, but withdrew before skating in her Qualifying Round, as you can see at the bottom of the results for that round here: http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2015/2015_sw_pacific_regionals/CAT005SEG024.html

Since she didn't compete at Regionals, for whatever reason, she could not go on to Sectionals (and that's assuming she'd make it out of the Qualifying and the Competitive rounds at Regionals)

Ah, thank you! :) I didn't realize she withdrew from regionals.

I watched Nathan Chen's program again and decided that I love it. It definitely a juxtaposition, but I think the transition from Smile to Smooth Criminal works. I also think it's neat they made the transition right in the middle of his step sequence. And as I said earlier, I love how he dances as he transitions between the elements.

It's definitely still a work in progress and I'd like him skate with a bit more speed and power, but I think it could be a well-scoring crowd pleaser by Nationals!

Time for Senior Ladies, to see if Caroline can make it to another Nationals!

Probably a good thing Angela Wang got Rostelecom Cup assigned or she'd have been here too and that would have made Caroline's chances even smaller.

Well I think Caroline did a solid FS and should be enough to get her in the top four. Five triples and 95+. Not a bad day in the office and no worse than some of the gals in their international comp this season.

Caroline's going to Nationals! Kulgeyko only got a total of 140.32 to Caroline's 145.14! Karen Chen (171.58), Leah Keiser (162.34), and Tyler Pierce (155.31) all qualified as expected.

Holy crap, Nathan CHEN. 87+ TES and 167+ FS score, 243+ overall score. That far outranks ANYBODY right now. And he didn't even do a 3A!

(I know it's not comparable, but that score would have him winning at TEB today....hahaha)

If he pulls off that program at nationals, we could be in for a major upset!

Polina tweeted he did 3 quads.....i only saw 2?

That score would have put him 8th in Sochi, damn.

I think what Polina meant was he landed three at the competition with the one from the short.

Well he attempted 3 would be accurate. He got one ratified with +GOE. But it also helped in the FS that he got all level 4 elements and had six jumping passes (and six triples) in the second half.

That program is ultra competitive even without the 3A.

Last day! Where did the time go? And what is Lloyd Eisler doing here? Got to say hi to Morgan Flood. I showed her a pic of me with her, Amber Glenn, Hannah Miller and Mariah Bell from Omaha and she got a big kick out of it. Took a pic of it. She has grown and I told her to stick with it and that she was doing great. Took second in the Junior short program but didn’t do well enough in the free to go to Greensboro. Broke my heart. But this was a contest where you wanted six of the ladies to go to Greensboro, just like the Novice Ladies. Senior ladies was great fun and I really liked Tyler Pierce and Leah Keiser. Karen Chen has come roaring back like, well, Nathen Chen. And Caroline Zhang is going to Greensboro with a heart ripping rendition of Les Mis. But the skater I will remember is Carly Gold. She came in seventh…almost 6th…but she has a grace and style and softness about her….got good PCSs….hope she keeps with it…Congrats to Sean Rabbitt…nice guy and has personality out there on the ice, too…he is getting on the bus to Greensboro…Nathan absolutely deserved to win but I would like to see him reach out to the crowd and bring us in more. Right now, he is kind of the anti Jason. Got to talk to Yasa Nechaeva before she left and she’s happy that her and Yuri’s dance pair of Babaev and Wenner took first in Novice dance at midwesterns. I asked her about Emily Samuelson, who many of us still love, and she says she is well, happy, and doing great. You can’t ask for better than that. Now I really can’t wait for Greensboro so I can see these skaters again! I will put up pics on my website in a few days when I can catch my breath. Thanks to Andy, Evylen and Karin for putting up with me for four days....

Thanks for the report, Chris! That is interesting your feeling re: Nathan's projection to the audience. I do remember while I was in awe of Nathan's ability, it was Jordan Moeller who stood out to me performance wise when I watched the juniors in Boston.

I am sad Carly did not make it; I enjoyed her program a lot.

Now wondering if I should go to Nationals after all...
