I hope these youngsters will be carefully molded and prepared for the next Olympics (amongst other things). We never know, they could be top contenders in the next four years. Dunno though how much KSU has been preparing the figure skaters for 2018.

yes to the whole thing but no about them not paying attention to korean fs.....(the latter can be argued later)

KSU did bring some foreign skating coaches/specialists/technicians to korea to help out some of the PC hopefuls for two weeks. I say good job to them since you can see some improvements from skaters such as Jun and Eun Soo Lim (the vibrant girl who's skating to pink panther). However, there's a lot of stuff that still needs to be worked on. There are no news whether KSU will continue to make these sessions more frequent or have a longer duration. (ex. instead of weeks, maybe a month?)

I agree. Obviously they're not doing the greatest job, but it'd be incorrect to say they weren't paying any attention. I think Korea really needs good facilities/rinks to start.

Are all these skaters training at Taereung (sorry, I don't know if I spell that correctly). I guess another option would be is to train internationally, like Yuna moving to Canada. That seemed to have exposed Yuna to a different and perhaps more effective training style at that time... I really do hope they focus more in the figure skating. It's one of the most popular sporting event during winter olympics...

I don't think most skaters can afford to train overseas. Yuna already medaled in major competition before going to Orser, and thus acquired quite a few sponsors. It's the KSU's responsibility to provide appropriate training environment, and they're not doing it(yet?). As nice as it is to see them try to develop a pairs program or whatever, I think they've gotten what little priorities they have for figure skating in the wrong order.

Not all of the figure skaters train in Taereung btw. Some do train in other rinks like Mokdong but those rinks...are just not good for any type of competitive skating overall. There's actually a small article about Taereung being demolished in 2017. Well....that shows how the gov't supports its sports culture

Yeah, just send the skaters somewhere else. I suggest Stephane's skating school. Or Canada. Canada is nice.

edit: yeahp I found the article about Taereung - http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...36_167538.html

edit 2: Okay I guess I'm way too critical on this matter. The government has set plan/started to create another training base like Taereung in Jincheon and it is in its second phase already. It is set to open and fully operate in 2017, just before 2018. I'm actually getting confused with I should get angry about. I think they should've done this sooner but at the same time, I'm angry about why can't they just maintain the Taereung facilities.

On a more positive note, if you just don't knoooow Jun just won the Boys' Advance Novice title in Merano! Yay!

    here's a pic: http://www.iceclubmerano.com/wp-cont...1100690-2s.jpg
I think this competition was really unfair for him

Also Ye Ri won the silver of the Girls' Advance Novice event! She had the highest PCS in both SP and LP! She kinda faltered a bit in the technical score but hey, consistency and a stronger mindset comes along as she improves more.

Certainly there are a lot of skaters I forgot to mention. Please feel free to complete the list.
I almost thought he was going to pull a young Plushenko and do a Biellmann at the end, that was a gorgeous hair cutter position! Very expressive skater, this is the first time Novice-level skating has given me goosebumps.

Also, does anyone know who this girl is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_DCywzngsQ She looks really small but really nails her triples, haha.

Found some info on her from Korean skating blogs. She's Ye Rim Kim, born in January 2003. She does indeed have some impressive jumping ability.
http://blog.daum.net/sadprince57/2712 apparently she tried a 3f-3lo in her short :o

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtKDKVcLe3g This is her SP. I think her 3Lo is under rotated, but not sure... someone correct me.
She tends to pre rotate a lot on her loop.

    Yes, that loop is URed.

I'm actually concerned for her on how she might deal with puberty. She is like Satoko for me at the moment.

Holy moly, 2003.... insane. But, what level is she? Novice? Cause 101 for LP is pretty impressive for that level.

I would say around Advanced Novice. I think she's placed in the competitive level now.

I guess KSU realized that they needed to step up after seeing their international competition. There was an announcement for this that states that they're teaching/making the younger skaters do harder tech content now. Idk if they're going at the right path of that decision though. I mean yes, increasing the BV is amazing but these young skaters also need better SS and presentation.

Go check out Han Nul (Neul?) Kim in youtube. She was able to do a 3Lz-3T combo before but it regressed a bit since she now ends it with a 2T.

Did Satoko's jumps used to look high or something? Cause this girl definitely jumps higher than Satoko, despite the fast rotation, and it looks like she will grow to have a Yuna-esque physique (though not guaranteed of course).

    Here's 11yr old Satoko
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDBJmUX9u3U
Her jumps were low even before. Interesting fact about is that she originally jumped ccw but her coaches were against it and made her jump cw like everyone else in her rink. (Kinda annoyed why they did that btw )

Now for Ye Lim's and Satoko's jumps, yes for Ye Lim jumping higher but hers isn't as controlled as Satoko's. I think Ye Lim's lack of control might be more detrimental for her in the future. She's even landing on stiff knees as well! Her coaches/trainers really need to bring her to Coach Shin or Jung Hyung Chi (So Youn's actual main coach -> also the coach that polished Yuna's jumping before Orser) more before it gets worse.

But alas, there's only one of Coach Shin and Coach Jung. They already have so much students on their hand. Now, they have more students to work with that has improper techniques due to the lack of knowledge of their own coaches.

Wow, I hope these teams will work out- Korea is investing in the right coach, at least.
