MEN:

probably the hardest one - quite a deep field, too many dark horses, too many "nerves-eat-me-alive" ones. Too many scenarios possible <God help me>

1. Shoma UNO - I know I'm crazy, but he's a new Takahashi for me (my forever idol along with Jeff Buttle,Stephane Lambiel and Brian Joubert) and he's capable imo of some BANG there (as for win this I mean:biggrin:)
2. Jason BROWN - I think he'll be 1st after short, but then Shoma will set a fire in FS. Reverse order much more realistic, but a fan can dream...
3. Takahito MURA
4. Han YAN
5. Adam RIPPON
6. Nam NGUYEN

total gamble there...other Chinese men could mix, Farris, Murakami...

LOL your prediction is exactly what I've been thinking as well and talking about with FS friends outside GS! Shoma winning, Jason with his consistency coming 2nd, Mura with his quads coming 3rd and I thought of not putting Josh very high because I have a feeling that long-distance travel doesn't agree with him! Last night I was sure Adam would be 4th, but this morning I was thinking he either has the two skates of his life and wins or he bombs slightly, so I moved him into 5th (hoping that he would then take that as experience/practice and really bring it at Worlds). All this in my head of course

So either we're both crazy or neither of us is ;)

ETA: Swap Nam and Yan and I think I have my Men's predicition completed  :drama:

y so difficult?
Im going to go Japanese sweep for now since they didn't have 2 men on gpf podium for the first time in ages

LOL at people's prediction on the men's event. I have to take out some emoticons from the above since one post only allows 5 images.

Oh boy! This is IMO the most challenging event of the year to predict, particularly this men's events! This is going to be so exciting, hopefully more so than the Russian-dominating Europeans! This competition will surely act as a prequel to the World Championships, and it will be so interesting to see this compared to Euros! This is always one of my faves, and it's all the more awesome making predictions.

Men: Let's start with this craziness. So many men can play into this race! I think all 3 U.S. men, all 3 Japanese men, Nguyen, D. Ten and maybe even Han Yan could feasibly win! Plus other like Ge, J. Ten, Lee could rank highly too!

1. Denis Ten: I couldn't justify anyone else here. He has all the goods for this to be considered an easy win, but it never seems to be that simple with him! However, this seems to be the time of year he comes to life, so maybe he will run away with it. No matter what, I'm excited to watch him skate!
2. Jason Brown: I'm feeling pretty good about his chances, I have to say I think he has the highest likelihood of anyone to be on the podium. If everyone is good, I think he'll be on the podium virtue of his skating skills and jumping consistency. And if everyone's bad, I feel like he will be less bad than most others!
3. Nam Nguyen: This may be me showing my patriotism, but I really think this could happen! He has some of the most consistent jumps of the field, and could be the one to rise between all these very inconsistent skaters.
4. Takahito Mura: I'm really not sure what to think of him. He has shown he can win events, but he has also shown he can turn right around and bomb. This will be a big test for him, coming in as the #1 japanese man for all intense and purposes.
5. Shoma Uno: This could definitely serve as a coming out party for him, or it could not. A lot of people think it will, but I am wondering if this is a little too soon. I believe that he will skate fine, but he may not be able to crack the top.

6. Adam Rippon: He could medal, he could win, we've seen it! But, it is so hard to predict him in the top 5! I kinda feel bad saying this right after his incredible nationals, but I can't help feeling this might be a disappointment for him. Maybe if he falters here, he will be more likely to bounce back for Worlds.
7. Daisuke Murakami: He is definitely a potential spoiler! He really needs to prove himself here, I feel, after his disappointing nationals. If he gets lost in the field here, it will look even more like his NHK win was a fluke.
8. Misha Ge: He has really stepped it up this season, and I am truly impressed. I don't know how far he can go, but he's already consistently beat my expectations, so anything could happen.
9. Joshua Farris: What to do, what to do?! He has so much talent and showed it at Nationals, but seeing if he can repeat this here will be the true test. Yet to break out internationally on the senior level, he needs to take this opportunity to do so before Worlds.
10. Han Yan: What a disappointing season for him! It would be so exciting to see him rebound here, but I'm wondering if this field is just way too full. We will see.
11. Jeremy Ten: Go Jeremy Go! He has all the talent, but it is a steep climb and won't be easy to even crack top 10!
12. June Hyoung Lee: Another uphill climb, he has tons of potential, but is not yet ready to e competitive.
13. Liam Firus: He is sunk without his jumps. So much greatness waiting to get out, but he needs the jumps...
14. Michael Christian Martinez: A sentimental favourite, it would be awesome to see him place higher, but it'll be tough!
15. Ronald Lam: Formerly Canadian, he has tons of potential and can capitalize on this here.

Ladies: While not quite as crazy as the men, this is still an exciting field! I could be wrong, but it seems the fight for gold could be an NHK rehash of Gold vs. Miyahara. Beyond that, the other American and Japanese ladies, the Canadians and more could factor in!
1. Gracie Gold: She should win if she is on, and she needs to win to be considered a medal favourite for Worlds.
2. Satoko Miyahara: One of my favourites, Satoko could win is she gets all her jumps in, and gets credit from the judges. Under rotations have plagued her, and she will need those jump credits to defeat Gold.
3. Rika Hongo: I wouldn't be surprised if she finishes considerably lower, but her GP success makes her a podium favourite. It will be truly interesting to see if she can repeat her earlier season success.
4. Samantha Cesario: It would be great to see her do well here, even make it on the podium. She'll need to get a good short under her, and will need to get positive calls on her jumps, but she can do it!
5. Alaine Chartrand: I'm not entirely unsure why, but I'm predicting she'll beat Daleman here. She has great jumps, and showed at last year's 4CC's that she can lay down impressive programs!

6. Polina Edmunds: She could definitely finish higher, but she'll need to be better than she was on the GP!
7. Gabrielle Daleman: essentially the same story as Edmunds.
8. So Youn Park: The same thing could be probably said here. She has so much potential, but doesn't always show it. She'll need to here.
9. Yuka Nagai: So much potential in this young skater, and she could definitely be a spoiler.
10. Zijun Li: Its too bad that she has not been able to really breakthrough. She seems to come close, but it is not clear how much she wants it.
11. Veronik Mallet: She has a lovely skating style, and can have beautiful jumps when she is on. She has however, yet to put forth a respectable preformance in the free this season. If she does, she could even be a factor.
12. Brooklee Han: Such an exciting skater, hopefully she'll stay consistent.

Pairs: This is such an interesting field considering that there's only 10 competitors, but all but one have a lot of potential. There is a lot of ways this field could go. Pang/Tong's comeback is likely the most interesting storyline. They are bonafide pairs legends, and have all the talent to be the best in the world. However, we haven't seen them at their best in a few years, and I am just doubting that were gonna see them back at 2010 level. I don't think they'd comeback if they didn't have some confidence... but, we'll see. I think things are looking up for Sui/Han, and they have done well at 4CC's before, so I am putting them high. The second most interesting thing to watch for me is Luba and Dylan in their first big competition. I have really fell for them, and it would be so good for them to lay it down here. IF they don't, that is ok, they have time. But it will be interesting to see how they are judged. American pairs also pose an interesting question: How will the strong showings at Nationals translate to this competition? I'm not sure, they could bomb or they could rise to the occasion. We'll see.
Oh yeah, and barring disaster Duhamel/ Radford should win. They are hot this season.

1. Duhamel/ Radford
2. Sui/Han
3. Pang/ Tong: They'll make some mistakes, but their experience and fantastic skating will hold them up. If they do skate near-clean than they could be #2.
4. Scimeca/ Knierim: Momentum seems to do well for this team, and they have that. I would think that after the pressure of Nationals, this will be much easier, and that could help them relax into it.
5. Ilyushechkina/ Moscovitch: Really hope to see them do well, but how judges perceive them will be important.
6. Peng/ Zhang: Unless they can somehow pull their jumps and big elements together, I think they could get lost in the field.
7. Denney/ Frazier: They also could get lost... On the other hand, this could be like a re-match for them and they could be completely flipped with Scimeca/ Knierim.
8. Moore- Towers/ Marinaro: They really are improving and I want to see them at least have a better showing than in the Grand Prix. But in this tight field, there isn't much room to move up.
9. Kayne/ O'Shea: Not really into this team, but they could prove me wrong. They rose to the occasion last year at 4CC's, and they could do it again if higher teams make mistakes.
10. Takahashi/ Kihara: Will this be there last season? What's the upside here?

Dance: As usual, this is a Canada vs. USA battle. This makes it not quite as deep, but still interesting to watch coming out of Nationals.
1. Weaver/Poje: I don't think it should be close, but who knows. They were well ahead at Grand Prix Final, and could very well be here aswell.
2. Chock/ Bates: I do like there FD this season, but am overall not impressed with their skating. I think it should have been closer, if not a different result at Nationals, and it would be interesting to see if there are any shake-ups here.
3. Shibutani/ Shibutani
4. Gilles/ Poirier: They could maybe overtake the Shibs, but it is unlikely. I really like them, but I don't think they can quite compete with the best yet. There marks haven't changed much from competition to competition, which indicates to me that thety might not be judges' favourites. Would love for them to prove me wrong and step up onto the podium here, though.
5. Paul/ Islam: Ok, maybe it's a bit unrealistic, but I had to let my patriotism take over in one of these matches. I also really like them, and I love their new free dance. If they can somehow not dig themselves a hole in the SD, then they could hopefully be competitive with their new free.
6. Hawayek/ Baker: Such an exciting team, and maybe we'll see them pull out a surprise. I fully expect to see them surge to the forefront over the next couple seasons.
7. Kim/ Minov
8. Hirai/ de la Ansuncion.

Ok, this was a lot of writing. But, I can't wait! This will be so interesting!!!
