It felt as if Krylova coached half of the teams in this competition. ..

Okay guys, I'm admittedly clueless when it comes to ice dance; I watch but understand little. Is everyone meant to have latin dances tonight? or is that just coincidence? Excuse my ignorance

No worries! This is the short dance, which means part of the dance contains a compulsory sequence - in this case the Paso Doble. Notice that all the teams are doing one section all the same... but then have different other elements (lifts/twizzles/step sequences). But since Paso is the compulsory sequence, it makes sense for the rest of the dance to have a latin flair. :)

Paso doble is the required short dance this year. Every year, all teams have to skate to one theme for the SD. (Maybe the free dance is more to your taste? :)).

EDIT: Nevermind, CSG explains it much better than I can.

Haha, all good. All these Pasos are making me extra spicy... I just didn't want to make it seem like I was body-fascist or whatever, lol.

Is it possible for a team to have a different style than that of the requiered pattern? Like a hip hop routine that utilized the paso doble steps?

There's something very awkward about this pair... they seem tentative... and his posture isn't the greatest. A paso is supposed to feel like the man is "attacking" but he's hunching. Still, must be great to have a clean dance in front of the home crowd! :)

Beautiful costumes, but so mismatched given his slight figure. It looks like Amodio skating with Nagasu. :slink:
If Amodio skated with Nagasu, he'd outshine her no matter what he's wearing or what she's wearing. Unfortunately, he'd also be the one to have a headcasey fall at the end of their routine.

I recall some people had an issue with Nelli & Alex's SD at Europeans here, though it definitely wasn't hip hop...

Totally! It would be weird, and affect the interpretation marks, but teams are allowed to use whichever music they like.

It's not exactly something you can "get away with" unless, you're one of the top pairs and are being experimental (the top pairs get away with murder sometimes... see Domnina/Shabalin's Aboriginal OD ).

This is going to sound silly, but I think due to all the success everyone is having with the Kazakhstan webstream, I think I am now firmly on team Kazakhstan for 2022 Winter Olympics! They seem to know what they are doing, good for them.
