I am the minority here. There is something with Lubov I cannot really enjoy--her posture and even facial expression remind me of Megan D, that little boy skating kind of feel...

This comparison is extremely puzzling. Two more opposite skaters you could not find. Lubov has excellent posture and stunning lines, but struggles sometimes on the jumps. Megan Duhamel does not have classic beautiful lines or posture, but is extremely athletic and can jump like a singles skater. So, yeah, I don't get it.

I second this.

Ah, someone's got the reason behind he spin invalidation:

https://twitter.com/examinerskating/status/566510683836383232

So like Jackie Wong says, it appears to be what some of you suspected - Han started the first position too late and didn't achieve the required minimum revs.

Are you kidding me?! :bang: That must be one of the worst technicalities since the inception of the new judging system. That is SUCH bs. To lose a silver over a 1/4 turn in a pair spin.

In other news, a certain ex-poster who happens to be a Pang/Tong fan announced their return, as the pairs FS tech specialist at this past 4CC.

Bummed that S/H spin got invalidated, but I think this is a good step for them. I hope this lit up a fire for them going to worlds. They did well in 4cc last year and not so well at Worlds. I hope this will be the opposite for them. I still see them as the potential bronze medalist there.

As for Pang/Tong, I don't even care she missed the jump lol. The moment where they did their side by side spiral and she drifts away is my everything

I would love for S/H to nab the bronze at Worlds. I'm so over people saying they look like kids and that they don't deserve better placements. They have a quad twist, they're the only Chinese team here that attempts two different triples, they have the hardest throws, and they have the most creative lifts of all the Chinese teams IMO.

Oh well, better to have a harsh tech specialist here than at Worlds (where I'm sure they will fix the level on the death spiral and the pair spin will be extended).

And I third this. This shaming of certain female skaters' bodies because they don't fit a certain classic image is sad. Lubov has the gorgeous posture of her Russian training and Megan has musicality and amazing strength. What's more they both have a wonderful joie de vivre not seen in many of the other pairs. IMHO D/R were on a completely different level than the other pairs & this was reflected in the scores.

Megan has "joie de vivre"? She is certainly no Stolbova but I would not go that far.

I know people hate d and r and especially her but come on. She is different that Stolbova. Obviously she doesn't have the soap opera Barbara P stare but Megan has a certain musicality and power that is beautiful in its own way. Not everyone can be a ballerina - thankfully. And at least we have seen some changes in Megan. Some skaters yes are beautiful but all they do is lyricism ie. Pang and Tong - and it is magical and pretty but it is good to seem some elgant but strong skating that is different. I mean Nancy Kerrigan in many ways was quite a robust and strong skater in Vera Wang. She wasn't all that delicate in many ways. sharp moves and she did not have the lilt of Sasha or Michelle. Pang and T do a great job -picking the chiffon dress in a the delicate shade of blue was smart. And to those who dislike Megan's hair (why it is a topic I am not sure). It is actually very stulish and sultry in many ways but not a great athletic hair cut - too hard to tie back and too many layers to pin back or up (even with short hair like that a stylist could pin it up but that would be a lot of work and pins.

I am thinking S/H are probably finished. With P/Z, W/W, Y/J, they already have a very strong crop but more classic and World's stage presentable, and able to compete with European and North American teams. Much better gamble for Chinese Fed.

Unfortunate.

I agree. Meagan is about power. Lubov has a gorgeous softness to her expression and beautiful lines.

Agreed. I think many of the North American teams are suffering from jet lag. Of course, the Asian skaters experience the same when they head east. I know one group of the NA skaters were delayed in Detrot before takeoff. I wonder if they all shouldn't leave one extra day and allow their bodies to catch up. It such a quick turn around from Nationals and then they all know the Worlds clock is ticking. Maybe they should all meet in Hawaii and call it a day! There may not be many in the stands but some of those Korean crowds were not exactly packed. And at least in Hawaii they'd have a chance to hit the beach afterwards!

I'm curious--did Meghan and Eric ever explain why this was the hardest skate they ever had?

I don't know if it's that, but after their performance during the interview they said that this week was really hard for them, practice was not going well, so they were glad they managed to get a performance like this together for the LP.

Fast, energetic, athletic! I admire this team's speed and dedication. But there's hardly a whif of artistry. I trust this is not where pairs' skating is ultimately heading. (Hurry back, Volosozhar & Trankov!!!!!)

Can I just secretly hope that Pang/Tong squeak out a medal during Worlds?

It might be tough, but hey (the inner fan knows no limits!)

One practice video shows them nailing the SBS jumps. If they can do that at Worlds--where they'll surely be more trained--they can do it. :cheer: (D/R will be near impossible to beat, but S/K and K/S have both shown vulnerability.)

To see them get a bronze at the worlds would be a dream for them and the perfect way to cap off their careers. They really should've gotten the bronze in Sochi over the Germans so it would them justice.
