Well, there's a familiar name. Good for Nathan. Also, Yankowskas winning the silver medal with her partner for Britain.

I also notice a junior lady from UAE; I've never seen a skater represent UAE... a poor score, but skaters (and federations) have to start somewhere.

Very good scores for those two! I want to see Ivan in the dance battle!

I wonder if the girl from UAE is the one Katarina Gerboldt was helping to train?

Oh poor Javier Raya. He is out of Worlds for sure.

Harris and Strid are listed to compete in Vienna next week, so they will have one more chance to make it.

Looking at the protocols, I'm still a little concerned. Gretchen is still popping jumps and stumbling out of throws. So, I'm still happy they won but Gretchen still appears to have the same chronic problems.

Yes, I think the same basic problems are there for Gretchen. I'm happy for the win, but hope she can some help with her jumps! It is good that Caitlin Yankowskas and her partner won silver, but sadly did not earn the FS TES they needed for Worlds. I don't think there is another competition available for pairs so their season will be over.

IN's U.S.-centric coverage:

Donlan, Bartholomay crush pairs field in The Hague
Peng, Hiwatashi earn junior titles; Dolkiewicz, Marvaldi take pairs bronze

Photos of the medalists have been added to IN's photo gallery:

Are there any results of the Battle?

FWIW, these two articles (in Dutch) each have a paragraph (the same one?) re the Skate Battle.

New videos have been added to the Facebook page within the last few hours, but I have not tried to determine whether any are from the Skate Battle.

The results page for the Skate Battle remains blank long after the fact, and I have a feeling it always will.

to get the gridlines in you change

TABLE
to
TABLE="class: grid"

at the top of the table.

And I have found WYSIWYG is very picky about your selecting all the table entries and nothing extra, either.

Thanks for fixing my table, Doris  -- and for adding so many others to this thread.
(I had to abort my second try b/c the formatting was disappearing completely, so I think my little beginner's luck already has run out.)

I can't believe Caitlin Yankowskas has been reduced to this. I know she's happy with Hamish but I had really hoped that she and Nathan would be paired together, or that she would find a younger partner (Hamish is no Dylan Moscovitch). I don't care what country she ends up competing for but it's just SO disappointing watching her and knowing she is capable of so much more (why is there no emoticon for drowning in tears)

Ugh my renewed hatred of John Coughlin continues

I think Caitlin and Hamish look much better than last season. There's still time! I think looking at skating only, though, John and Caitlin should have stayed together. He actually had less success with Caydee, although I don't think he was expecting it to turn out that way.

My bitterness over how that split played out was validated when John and Caydee failed to make it to Sochi. It is nice to see Caitlin competing again though, when I rewatch the Y/C FS from 2011 Nationals her movements are just like art on ice. She's one of those rare American skaters who loves pairs skating and has always wanted to be a pairs skater (even when Marina Zueva was trying to get her to switch to dance) and just really a delight to watch on ice. I know she's had a few failed partnerships and tryouts before Hamish, which is just disappointing. I hope they don't just fade into obscurity because she's too good for that

The winner of the skate battle was the Dutch lady Niki Wories, who won against Ivan Righini in the final round. I didn't see it, but even the article admits to a fair amount of chauvinism. Yuck.

Who were the judges? The spectators?
Partly. The spectators, and some 'pro' judges, but the articles don't mention who the judges were. Apparently spectators were given blue and yellow cards to indicate which skater of every 'pair' was allowed to go to the next round. If their opinion differed from the judges', Joan Haanappel's made the final decision (she used to be a famous skater in the Netherlands... ha, long before my time! Pretty sure we haven't had a famous figure skater in a very long time, *LOL*).

What caught my interest in the articles was that apparently there was also a nations cup of sorts, with Japan winning first, and Netherlands second prize. What a joke.

If the spectators had fun, it was a plus! I hope that it inspires more kids in the Netherlands to take up figure skating.
