I just turned 33 years old this month.

Happy belated birthday! :hb: My birthday was last month, and I'm on the wrong side of 30 now.

I was actually in a prime music discovery mode at 33, but it has definitely gotten more difficult over the years. Less time available, more effort required...

Listening to 'classics' will always be a thing, but I'm always growing bored of the tunes in my current rotation, and pushes me to keep seeking something new.

Just listened to the entire Kid A album this morning. Still so amazing after all these years!

Yup. Great album!!

Re: new music
I just discovered a new group today myself. I've been listening to Apparat for a while and also have downloaded some Modeselektor both of which are electronic musicians. Apperat sings and sounds a bit like Thom Yorke from Radiohead (great solo musician too) and Modeselektor is a bit more "bleep bloppy" and has worked with Thom Yorke ;)

Well the two apparently joined forces, combined names to Moderat and have realeased a few albums under my radar. I love music like this for running, hiking, snowboarding, or just any solo activities with the headphones on.

Here is the track from these two that I've been listening to today.

I like the Apparat song from Breaking Bad..."Goodbye" aka "Gus's Theme" - someone ought to skate to that.

The vocal version of "Goodbye" has an artist called Soap & Skin, who I got interested in after seeing an Ice Age program to another of her songs.

I am older than 33, but I still like new music...but I used to do college radio & it was always a big hobby of mine.

Somewhat on-topic...

Interesting article, especially if you're over 33 years old

New study shows that people stop listening to new music at 33

Certainly true for me. And 33 would take me into 90, and I can't really tell you any music from the 90s ... that to me, is "new music". Still don't know any of the musicians linked here, except Barbra:laugh2:

And while we (or at least I) am keeping it old school, here is what I am listing to now. Even a little before my time. Rest in peace, Ben E. King:

So there was just a Mag 4.0 earthquake in my area. No damage but the house shook for a few seconds and no one knew what had happened until the news broke. Earthquakes may be daily occurrences in other areas of the world, not in my little corner of Michigan.

Interesting... I didn't sense anything (even with living several stories above ground)... wonder what it would've been like if I were at my office today on the 10th floor!

Earthquake in Michigan felt in Ann Arbor area

U.S. Geological Survey map Looks like people felt it as far west as Chicago (along Lake Michigan), which I was curious about if it had reached as far east at Ann Arbor (and Detroit).

In memory of the liberation of Dachau and all concentration camps:

Band of Brothers - Discovery of the Camp composed by Michael Kamen

Band of Brothers is on my to-watch list and this is a beautiful piece of music. Even though it's been 70 years since the liberation of the concentration camps, it does not feel like a distant memory, which is a good thing. We do not need history to repeat itself. (Though it has in some ways, sadly).

As for me, I'm continuing my early 2000s flashback by listening to the first two albums by Interpol:
* Turn off the Bright Lights (fave song: Obstacle 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG7npIiy0Uw; Live version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQJYGmum9M4 Peel Session version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-MQeJs6yvs).

* Antics (fave song: A Time to Be So Small: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv8TMuWINnw)

I saw them play live at my last outdoor festival I attended (Sasquatch 2007, as I noted earlier). I feel their later albums did not live up to the awesomeness of these two albums, but maybe I should listen to them again and perhaps I can appreciate them more.

Band of Brothers is a gorgeous soundtrack! BTW, not to nitpick (I know you meant well, Mrs. P.), but the liberation of the camps was 70 (!) years ago!

I can't get enough of Nomadic Firs - Cover Bombs (ODESZA Edit)

I went on a long Kayak journey the other day around my friends lake and listened to this album twice but this song stuck out and has been added to my current iPod playlist. I am listening to it right now and getting ready for a meeting.

Feeling:Calm

I like this thread...
Now listening to. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h5_HfjcjR_M

Wassive by Habib Koite
Just LOVE it !!

Very very cool! Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if that is a fretless guitar being used for the lead? It has a very crisp and smooth sound to it which makes me wish I had one myself. As someone who learned stringed instruments on a cello...I'd love to own a guitar or even a bass that is has that type of sound to it.

Then again...maybe it's not even a fretless guitar

That was however a great photo of the zebra resting it's head on the other zebra

Foro Bana. Cool mellow great dance piece...
Enjoyed this artist for a long time... Constantly adding new music to my "favorites" list.... and I'm well past the age 33 mark !!! hehehe. Music is as necessary as breathing, don't you find? Glad you enjoyed this...

I immediately downloaded that and plan to use it for an intro for one of the movies I edit. I edit FS fan videos but also edit videos of snowboarding and skateboarding type videos for my friends. This will be so perfect and set a very cool tone to start off.

Thanks again. I love finding out about new artists. Especially in a genre like World Music which can be quite overwhelming to search.

I love this thread too. Music is my first passion in life.

The first suggestion that comes to mind in this genre of music and I happened to be listening to it earlier today would be Feqadu Ande-Mesquel:

More of a jazz feel but a very cultured one IMO

SAM -- saw your post this morning. YES!! I've enjoyed your videos here on GS.. Watch them over and over... In part due to your music choices. Love this jazz piece too. I'm decidedly in awe of those like yourself who are tech wizards being challenged in that department myself.
On the World Music topic: I first heard Wassive in an obscure miniseries back in 2002 called Armadillo in which the hero loved African music. The soundtrack is wonderful so I'm attaching the playlist. You might find something of interest. No links... Just the list. I DO enjoy your work. Keep the videos coming.
