Some notes

First of all I did watch quite a bit of live streaming on Saturday. My comments about Sunday will be based mainly on protocols published.

I will only talk about the ladies events as the fields for the men were actually quite weak.

First of all junior and senior events were not combined events but novice and below were.

Kelsey Wong opted to compete senior in the short and landed clean lutz and flip in the short. She competed junior in the long and landed 4 triples including toe and salchow and another lutz. She was not invited to the junior development camp ( which usually is the unofficial shortlist for JGP's ). I am sure she will get consideration for a JGP now.

Megan Yim has put herself in an excellent position for a JGP slot. Obviously we have to wait until. Here SP was marred by some UR'd falls but at least in junior ladies she was the only one to go for the triple flip in the SP. She did skate a much better long, fully rotating 5 triples. No flip was landed in the long however she did at least fully rotate all the other triples.

Megan would most likely have received a JGP last year but she was too young to do it last year. She is finally old enough now.

I do think that both Selena Zhao and Kim D/L who competed at JW this year are more likely to receive senior B's this year given that Canada has only 4 JGP slots available. I noticed that no one junior-age eligible that competed senior in the last nationals was invited to the junior development camp. This is the first time that no JGP-age eligible seniors were invited to the camp. I also noticed Selena Zhao had not been invited ( and she has not aged out ).

I do wish there were more early competitions like this in Canada. For the most part most of our summer competitions ( usually in mid August ) take part after the entry deadline for the first few JGP events. Only Minto is held early enough but it only seems to get good ice dance fields and weak fields for everything else.

I was also reasonably impressed by some of the pre-novices at this competition ( divided into 2 groups ). Emily Bausback landed triple toe, salchow and lutz in her free program.

Overall picture of international assignments for Canadaian ladies IMO

Senior GP events : Osmond ( Skate Canada) , Chartrand ,Daleman , Mallet. I don't see any other skaters getting these assignments unless injury happens to one of the Skate Canada bound skaters.

Senior B:

Most likely all those getting GP events will get senior B's.

The others I see getting senior B's are Kim D/L , Selena Zhao and Madelyn Dunley, Unless Roxanne Rheault seriously amps up her jump content ( flip and toe loop are the only triples she can do and her flip is inconsistent ) I can see her being left behind here. Yes Roxanne gets high PCS domestically compared to the others on this list but there is no way she would get those marks internationally with such little jump content. The other 3 in this list are still young enough for JW and Rheault is too old for any junior competition. Canada needs to send as many JGP eligible ladies to events so that they can send the best lady to JW.

JGP's

Too soon to write anybody in at the moment but I see Yim and Wong on the official shortlist. I'll wait til Quebec to get a better picture. I do see a focus on the younger ladies.
