After watching EON's Sun Valley videos many times, I like both Nathan's programs this year, although
we can not see the full FS at this moment. Nathan's talented musicality besides being a good dancer like
Kurt Browning once commented has shown he can make these two programs spectacular. But of course
he needs to execute great quads too.

I agree with everyone who said Nathan's ending pose in the SP is proper. Nathan even can throw his red
pocket square to the floor like Charles Aznavour did in https://youtu.be/Gknb1QqWY4I?t=210 ;)

Glad people are warming up to his FS! I'm so looking forward to seeing how it all comes together. I think it's going to be amazing.

And I'll admit to being bit biased since I loved the movie so much and it's a current obsession of mine. I'm excited to see him skate this program. :luv17:

It should be no big deal, especially for someone like Nathan who used to be a competitive gymnast. Lots of skaters perform backflips in galas and I've yet to hear of anyone getting hurt.

It doesn't matter if he was a gymnast or not, freak accidents can happen to everyone, and I think every skater slips off his/her toe-pick on toe-assisted jumps once in a while.
If that happens on a backflip, I think chances you hurt your neck are a lot higher than on any other manoeuvre (or maybe not, but that has always been my impression).

So for me it's not just about the risk of injury, which is always there no matter what he does, but also the likely type of injury. Hence why I hate seeing skaters do backflips.

Wow, what a great catch, love this! Also, how dare Charles ruin the melancholic and mourning mood of the piece with such a gesture, it's like he doesn't know what he wants to express with his own song!! ;)

Somehow I like the practice runthru more than the actual show performance.

I agree. To me it looked like in the show version he filled a few blank spots, that are reserved for spins or jumps that either weren't there yet or will take longer in the actual competition program, with some improvised filler steps and arm moves that looked a bit too random and repetitive (right before he goes into the ChSq or after his final spin which was very short in the evening version).

The practice version felt a lot more concise and deliberate because he either omitted stuff and just stroked around or did a longer spin with more positions.

I'm also not counting on him to do that breakdance type of slide on the ground or his lutz-entry kick jump in the actual competition version.

One thing I would love him to add is some quick footwork in that short section where the rapping is very fast ("But I been runnin' and gunnin', gettin' it for myself in due time") and he's mainly relying on arm moves, but I'm pretty sure that's already the final version of it.

Stephen is going to be in JGP next week from Aug 21 to Aug. 24th in France, would Raf go with him? Did he state he would be accompanying Stephen to JGF in that pod cast with Jack? Nathan would probably be leaving for Yale around Aug. 26th, registration is on the 27th and class starts on the 28th.

Stephen is doing JGP Lake Placid, not Courcheval. The Jr men's SP is on August 29th, and the FS is the next day. Champs Camp is listed as taking place from August 24-28.

He's a substitute, hence the S. Only the skaters with numbers beside their names are actually competing there.

Thank you. I didn’t even pay attention when I saw his name. I was wondering if it make any senses if he participate both Courchevel and Lake Placid.

Now I hope they would pay some brief visit to Yale after the comp is over

Nick McCarvel article on Raf's US citizenship
https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/...ters-rafael-arutunian-becomes-us-citizen.aspx

"With what I'm doing now at Great Park Ice, I am doing it differently than a lot of coaches in the U.S.," he said of the new facility, which just opened in 2019. "It's a school, an academy. Skaters have class everyday with me. They have homework and then they come back and we work on what they've been assigned. I find it as a more effective approach because – especially for the kids – they take more responsibility that way."

"It's actually the question I get a lot with Nathan and how he is able to skate so well when he is at Yale and away from me as his coach," he said. "But it's about those tasks… it's about him doing the work himself. He understands what I need him to do, even if it's just one word."

On the two-time world champion Chen, Arutunian confirmed that Nathan will return to Yale for his sophomore year, but he sees challenges ahead for them this coming season.

"I have had Nathan here this summer; I really missed him," he said. "He promised me that at least one year before the Olympics [in 2022] he will come train with me for the whole year. I think this [coming] season is going to be his hardest. Because already he has been one year without a coach [with him], so I think this year could be harder. Last year was his first gone after eight years of training with me. I think this is going to be harder for him to hold his shape. But we'll see. We are going to try our best… we have no other choice."
