That made my think that maybe he wants to transform an Ex (and by that I mean TaT) into a competitive program and replace it with the new SLB Ex. But idk, it’s not something common. Maybe he just wants to get rid of Grespi since it’s problematic.
I know many people have remarked about what a wonderful program TAT would make. I think it would be really problematic, and in the end, it would lose it's rather dream-like, unrushed, languid quality that makes it so special when he has to skate it with 2 quads and a 3A. It seems to me that it wouldn't work...Great Spirit is just problematic - period. Not to mention that I think the judges would hate it.

Wait, what and who is at Florida? I've seen people mostly guessing California, Cricket and Colorado... and Eteri I guess, but nothing on Florida yet.
Also, is there any other jump coaches/camps that are not the above suspects? XD

I'm going to go for the fun and chaotic choice and predict SkAm (with Nathan) and NHK (with Yuzuru) assignments XD
IDK I think Shoma doesn't really need to win all of his GPs to qualify for GPF? Two silvers and he most likely would make it. But if he wins against one of them (or both)... a nice bonus.
Also, hopefully the assignments are scheduled properly. No back-to-back GPs please! /prays

Aaahh costumes depend a lot on what programs he's skating but based on their recent output for Shoma, I'm kind of preferring Mathieu Caron to Satomi at the moment, although both are great designers. Maybe a new designer? Or some costumes from Chacott?
There is pairs training in FL. with Jim Peterson and John Zimmerman (2 separate places), although they would seem a little unlikely to me. Marina Zueva has now moved from the Detroit area to Naples, FL. Many people (including Nathan, Patrick, Gracie, and others) have gone to her for coaching, choreography, work on skating skills, etc. Oleg Epstein is still on her staff and is good with jumps. I could see Marina as a (long-shot) possibility...Anthony Liu has worked with Sho before. Not sure what rink he is at now, but he's somewhere in California.

Sho definitely doesn't have to win all of his GPs. The main objective of the Fed is to be sure that he has a good chance to make it to the GPF. In fact, 3 years he had 1 silver / 1 gold. It was only last year that he had 2 golds. I think he can even sneak in there if he gets a bronze. I won't be at all surprised if he meets Nathan, Vincent, or Mr. Hanyu. In fact it seems almost unavoidable.

Oh my gosh, how could I EVER forget Chacott. I think they made the leprechaun costume. Of course, they're the ones who made THE Ladies in Lavender gorgeous shirt with the sprigs of lavender on it and (ahem) those famous purple pants. :scard8:

More speculations:
I also believe that it is going to be a well-known jump specialist with whom he will work at the secret camp. Because of the secrecy my very first thought was that he will go to Russia, not to Eteri and Dudakov but to Mishin. When he talked more about it and said that it is his own idea and there are great skaters around, I started to think that it is Raf.

I would love it if he would go to Mishin, but I'm not sure how much work he does with skaters from other countries. I think the training is just a secret for now, but it will come out while he is there. Someone will post something on Twitter or some other platform, and then we can all stop guessing!

Shoma talked a lot about "challenge" and "growth" lately and he mentioned that he see his programs as story of his growth, so i don`t think he will repeat any of his old programs.
Unless it is Stairway to Heaven. He couldn`t skate it clean, so maybe, he wants to nail it?

But Japan skating federation wants gold, so I'm almost sure that they won`t give him same assignments as Yuzuru and will try to avoid Nathan.
I would really be happy if he didn't repeat programs, but I have to believe his experiences with STH were less than satisfying. I think his injuries played a part in his difficulties, so maybe he wants to show that now that his ankle is better, he is able to do a better job with that program. As we mentioned above, silvers are good too (but golds are better of course!). He can make it to the GPF with 2 silvers too.

Exciting times! :hap10: :cheer:

Thanks to: Feimeicheng who did a nice job of abstracting Machida's commentary

Full commentary by Machida Tatsuki (M) and Itagaki announcer* (A) (*please let me know if the announcer should be another one (Nozaki))
I hope my English is slightly better than google translate...

A: Now, here’s Uno Shoma. Please pay attention to his face paint too.

A: He’s performing “Great Spirit”, his exhibition programme from last season which was choreographed by Shae-lynn Bourne.
In the group performance by PIW team this year, there was a theme of traditional Japanese entertainment. It seems that Uno watched that and came up with the idea of Kabuki paint.

M: That was a shocking make-up right?
Uno always put on make-up when he performs this programme, but I got the impression that he skates more enjoyable than usual.

Make-up has the meaning of changing self to someone else, I think this also applies on Uno.

A: Ah

M: Slightly change the topic, I think this is similar to the case when Tanaka Keiji performs “JoJo”. Make-up and costumes are the procedures to change self to someone you would like to perform as. This definitely applies on drama and dance, maybe it’s unexpectedly effective on figure skating too.

A: Audiences feels something coming close by this programme by Uno.

Uno said “he seldom skates to up-tempo programmes. This was what he did the least and he’s chosen this as that’s what he want to do the most.”

M: That’s right. However, I think Uno was good at skating with up-tempo rhythm. During his 2015-2016 season, he skated “Legends” for his short programme. Uno has left me a strong impression that he skated on the beat very nicely.

....(sorry I slacked a bit)

M: To skate to such up-beat music, body mobility and legerity are necessary.

A: Yup.

M: As Uno is equipped with these, that’s why he can fully skate to this music.

A: It seems that Uno’s practices are aiming at the level (difficulty?) of his performances in ice shows are on par with competitions.

Thank you gacchan for sharing your translation with us! It's really great to learn more about what Tatsuki and the announcer said about Shoma, especially Grespi. Tatsuki even remembered Legends when talking about Shoma and uptempo programs, it's very sweet of him :)

Good job, gacchan.
I can’t help repeating Great Spirit and TAT.

Competition programs, assignments, training place….
I can’t predict.
Anyway I think next season will be successful season for Shoma definitely.
I can’t wait!

Same here, jerrymouse!
I kept repeating his PIW programs, even though they're not new programs, every performance of Shoma is so enjoyable.
The new atmosphere of Grespi with the face paint, as well as the challenge of combination jumps while still doing the physically challenging choreo. The lovely 4F after two minutes in TAT, with his confident and happy smile and cool movements.

If I'm not careful I'll be stuck in the lovely rabbit hole that is the Shoma's programs playlist in youtube, uni-san has an amazing playlist with almost all the recent programs:

Sorry for bad English.

Your English is fine. Don't worry -- here we speak skating and we speak Shoma and are all united by our love for him. Please post more often! ;) ...I will be very interested to see what assignments he gets in the GP, just because it's going to be very tricky to have him avoid the people he is supposed to avoid and yet try to put him in a competitive position.

Come on Shoma, tell us everything and soon! Speculating is fun but I want to know 😊 Interesting idea that his programs are connected to the training camp... 🤔

Totally agree regarding speculation, but at this point, I'm doing anything I can to keep from going crazy!

Well, if he get same GP as Yuzuru's or Nathan's it will be a good practice before GPF.

I was going to spend off season drilling up on the jumps so I can distinguish between them, but now I am too busy trying to guess where they are sending Shoma and what he’ll be skating for, and which GP he’ll end up in. I am a busy girl, lol.

^^^^ nice comment on Grespi from TSL. They rarely comment on EX programs of an active skater so that's a surprise to me that they mention it.
They have a guessing game on their own for choreographers XD
Thanks jerrymouse for sharing.

I found this, I think it confirms that Shoma won't debut any new programs (including the new EX from Shae-Lynn) at All That Skate.
He'll skate to TAT and Grespi. I wonder if it's 2 programs in 1 show or he'll alternate for different days.
I remember skaters skating more than 1 program at 1 All That Skate show.

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful updates!

So excited for:

1. New programs (costumes!:)
2. The secret camp (hope it will not be so secret at some point)
3. GP assignments (I would not even try to guess, so many questions)

Michael Weiss has an excellent series of short videos that explains and demonstrates all the jumps. He jumps a single, double, and triple of each jump so you can see what they look like. Here is the first video in the series, and you can see the links for all the other jumps then too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbfRRXHqLm8 So maybe between agonizing over the mystery questions, you can squeeze in a little bit of study on the jumps. It's not really that hard to distinguish them.

TSL has been saying since forever that they want to see Sho work with Benoit or Tom Dickson. They loved the "edgy" vibe of "Legends" and keep hoping for something like that. Interesting that they want a DANCER to do his choreo and not a SKATER. They mention Travis Wall, but I'm not familiar with him. (Oh I see, he's from the TV show So You Think You Can Dance)....Since THE ICE is kind of considered Sho's Show (oh, I like the sound of that! :luv17:), I wouldn't be surprised if he debuts a program at one of those shows. My guess is they'll use it as part of the marketing promotion for the show.

Thanks!

I agree. I don't think it's the worst thing in the world if he would meet them, although I would think the JSF would want him to go against Nathan rather than Mr. Hanyu. We'll know in 28 days I guess! :bang: :furious: :dumb: :hpull: :dance2:

Is Anthony Liu still coaching? I haven't heard anything since he owned Desert Ice Castle and filed for bankruptcy.

TSL mentioned that they would like to see Shoma work with dance choreographers such as Benji Schwimmer (has choreographed for Jeremy Abbott and he did Adam Rippon's Arrival of the Birds/O FS) or Travis Wall (best known for contemporary choreography, also has choreographed for Adam Rippon).

As The Ice is later in the summer, I am sure we will be seeing a lot of the new season's programs there.

I found this helpful in learning to distinguish the jumps:

At first, I thought they said Travis Payne, who was Michael Jackson's choreographer. My first thought was WHAT?! Then I played it again and realized they said Travis Wall, although Payne might be good! (BTW, always liked Nathan's MJ program choreographed by Nadia Kanaeva!). Interesting that they even thought Shae Lynn was not the right one for Sho...They usually do debut stuff at The Ice, although I think it was quite a bit later last summer, so who knows if people will be ready earlier. Seems like it was towards the end of August last year. I could be wrong about that...Oh, good jump video.

I think it is great that he will skate to those two programs :) They're quite fun and less serious (I'm a big fan of Time After Time)

I've just seen this:

it is Shoma, right? :luv17:

I will, thank you. I was going to print out stills because even in slow motion, the only one I can tell from the others is axel, and sometimes I miss when they turn into it anyway when watching amidst all that drama. But I think if I can watch single and double it will help!

Talk about throwback because Travis Wall, Benji Schwimmer and Travis Payne all choreographed for the contestants in So You Think You Can Dance, which I used to watch religiously like... 10 years ago. Travis W. and Benji were even former contestants in one of the seasons I watched, Season 2 XD

Oh no... now I'm dreaming about Shoma getting choreo from the SYTYCD choreographers I love like Sonya Tanyeh or Mia Michaels. But I guess aside from those three not a lot of them explores figure skating choreo. So it's probably impossible. But a girl can dream! I'm also curious why TSL keeps suggesting dance choreographers... probably because they're more likely to give Shoma contemporary programs? XD
