I was going to start a thread for Alexander, but then I noticed we have one already...maybe it will be a bit more active now. ;)

He won his first gold in a senior competition today, beating his countryman (and fellow Mishin student) Artur Dmitriev Jr. by more than 30 points.

http://nice-baie-des-anges.fr/images/stories/docs-coupe/resultats2014/html/CAT005RS.HTM

I like him a lot, but I'm ready to see some different kinds of programs from him...wonder what he will do in the gala tomorrow?

Oh, I love him - so yay, a thread! :) I was actually wondering about starting one, but I'm really bad about finding out news and such things, so... I had no idea either that one already existed.

I actually love his SP - seeing that for the first time at his first JGP this season was what made him a Favourite of mine. When it ended I found myself thinking - to my surprise - "You know what? I really loved that!" And I've rewatched it countless times, and enjoyed it even more each time.

Yes, me too. The SP was a big transition from last season. Very mature & charismatic. No longer the feel of a junior skater.

I was thinking of reviving this thread, but I guess y'all beat me to the punch. :p Congratulations to Petrov for winning his first senior competition. May the triple axel be with him for JGPF.

There is a poll on Petrov's vk fan-club that asks "do you think Alexander will try the quad this year" (correct me if I'm wrong, i used google to translate). If you click on the "Да" (yes) option right at the top, it will show you the vk IDs of the people who voted yes and one of them is Petrov himself. lol
http://vk.com/club43280817?w=poll-43280817_500
So maybe he might add the quad into his LP later in the season. But much will depend on whether Mishin thinks he is ready I suppose.

Well, actually I think he can wait for another year to try out the quad. He might have landed it now in practice already, I guess. But I don't think you must put it in junior. I think junior you should stay as clean as you want, don't push too much.
He is just 15 while Boyang and Shoma are almost 17 (and both don't have reliable 3A like Petrov).

I don't think he needs to bring the quad to juniors. In fact, I don't care much if he wins JGPF or Junior Worlds. I want him and his team to do what's best for the long haul. :) (Now, what exactly that is, I don't know. Should he start the quad early so he can keep the good technique forever? Or should he wait until after he's done growing, to avoid injuries?)

Lol, if he brings the quad, do you think he has any chance at Russian Nationals? I mean, he came close to beating Voronov in the SP.

I wonder if he goes by Sasha or Alexander in his everyday life? Sasha is so much easier to type.

He's definitely come a long way in just half a year. I thought he was cute at Junior Worlds...good, but not extraordinary. I do like his current programs, apart from the somewhat distorted-sounding recording on the LP (someone asked him about it in an interview, so I know it's not just me, but he said he was used to it & didn't notice). As for the quad, I think Mishin is a master of strategy and will bring it in as soon as he thinks the time is right. I guess Sasha could probably medal at Nationals, but it would be tough without any quad. I'm almost more excited for that competition than the Grand Prix, to be honest.

I think Petrov is more expressive than Pitkeev, and he has better command on ice IMO. But in term of being better competitor, maybe he still has quite a way to go. Mishin has done a great job with him I am glad to see him growing up like this. As for the quad I think he might try it at JGPF, or at Junior World.

On his social media accounts, he uses "Alex" often in his ID. Whether his friends call him that or "Sasha", I dunno. :)

About Pitkeev, yes I agree. Very strong competitor, atm more so than Petrov, but can be too clinical/cold. Sasha more expressive and therefore to me at least, more appealing/charismatic.

Love that! I wonder if that is a hint? ;)

My guess would be that he'll have the quad by next year at the very least - and I think Mr Mishin will have it in there when it is consistent. By the way, did he have the 3A last year? I think I only saw one performance of his last year - and I don't think he did then? But I may be misremembering.

It's funny that you say he used to have messy LPs - as now he just seem solidity personified to me. I mean, there may be mistakes, yes, but... it's difficult for me to envision him as a splatterer. But then, what a difference a year may make. :)

And I'm with you, adelia - I've not had a favourite Russian man after Plushy.... I've liked some of them well enough, but not more than that. Until now. :)

Yes, he did have the 3a last year.
