Good luck to them! They are still my fave new couple!

Me too! I just love them, my favourite new couple for a very long time.
Such a lovely surprise, Asher is transformed with Nicole.

Oh well, not Nicole & Asher's best skate:( Couldn't quite hear the score, sounded like 151? That doesn't sound right. To my unknowledgeable untrained ice dance eye, it looked like Nicole fell out of or stumbled on twizzles. They are fourth out of five, so far. (Ignoring the rest of the ice dance, because, frankly, not so interested in the other teams).

But they were as charming as ever! Particularly in the KnC, they act like they really like each other.

Better luck tomorrow!:cheer:

They scored 51.08. It looked like Nicole lost her edge on the first rotation of the first set of twizzles and could not hold on to her blade, which caused her to lose the entire first set of twizzles. I'm wondering if they got zero credit for their twizzles....the rest of their dance was so smooth, and they had the biggest and smoothest Ravensburger of group 1. I'm sure they would have been leading if not for the error.

Thank you for the explanation, legjumper, unfortunately even I could see the error.

I know I am prejudiced, but the rest of the skate was, as you said, so smooth, flowing, and to me, so *mature*, I still enjoyed it. And I don't think that's just age, it's the program. I mean, that first couple with the Regency-or-whatever-it-was theme? :scratch2:)

There's always the FD:love:

The SD protocol has been posted. O/H got killed on levels - L1 for the twizzles (which is understandable), but also L1 on the first sequence of the pattern and only L2 on the partial. (In contrast, the SD leaders, Soucisse/Tanguay, got L4 on everything but the partial, which earned L3.)

On the bright side, O/H had the second-highest PCS, only 0.12 behind Poulin/Servant.

Better luck tomorrow! They will skate first in group 2.

Well, no twizzle mishaps, I held my breath!:) it looked as though Asher missed Nicole's hand at one point (far from an ice dance expert, don't know what that is called, other than a hold?) and part of Nicole's costume fell off. :(

No idea if there was a costume deduction, but 85 something and in first so far. May not hold it, but an improvement over the SD!

Glad to hear they did better today!

Skate Canada's DailyMotion page has posted videos of O/H's programs from the Challenge.

SD: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3h4jzz_orford-hill_sport

FD: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3h4qq0_orfor-hill_sport

FD Protocol: http://skatecanada.ca/results/2016challenge/2016challSrDanceFreesegJudgesDetails.pdf

They got L4 on all of their lifts, L3 on twizzles (this is an area that can be improved, they have not consistently gotten L4 twizzles in their competitions), and L2 on both footwork sequences (it's hard for new teams to get the levels on footwork). Almost all positive GOE and no negative GOE.

Even though the Challenge was not the best competition for O/H, I thought they made all of the other teams look clunky. They are just so smooth and polished, especially for a team that only started training together in June.

Thank you again Legjumper:gclap: I put the programs on the OP page.

Since I was watching the twizzles so closely, although they didn't botch them, it did seem to me that Asher could lift his leg a tad higher, but I don't know if that is a fair criticism in ice dancing. I just love watching them, even when they're not "on". I "stole" my hubby's brand new iMac with El Capitan to watch, and he looked at them and said "they are absolutely charming, who are they?" and he wouldn't know Nicole & Asher from the Shibs.

As Asher tweeted, onto Nationals:hap85:

Thanks for the videos! For a new team I still think they look great, and this is far from their best, so I think overall things are still looking good for them!

Nicole and Asher are in 5th after the SD at the Canadian Nats:

1 Weaver/Poje 76.20
2 Gilles/Poirier 70.63
3 Paul/Islam 68.30
4 Paradis/Ouellette 63.03
5 Orford/Hill 61.46

Third may not be within reach, but fourth? And by all accounts (yet to see a video) they were their charming selves.

And the protocols, thanks to Caro_Liza Fan:clap: are in the Canadian Nats SD thread since the Canadian score sheets PDFs come up blank on my desktop? They don't use Preview? Oh well

Keep it going, Nicole and Asher!:cheer:

Glad to see the doing well at their first Nationals! To me even 5th would be a respectable finish here in their first year together- they are currently ahead of some teams who have been together much longer, and within a point an a half of a team who's been together since 2010. To me this is just great.
