Thank you. I remember when she was teeny tiny and now she looks closer to his height.

Interesting US junior ice dance couple who certainly are off to a good start with a 65 in their SD at the JGP in Colorado Springs. I like the unique nature of the dance and music. But I am having trouble understanding or feeling comfortable with the strange expressions that Lorraine has during the SD. I'm not sure if they are suppose to be some sort of mythical creatures but the grimaces are over the top to me and distracting. Apparently the judges were in to it because both set of scores were strong junior-level. As one spectator though, I hope she drops the extreme expressions.

Lorraine and Quinn already have a fan thread, on page four of the Fan Fest (copy and paste is not something I do well on my iPad). If you are :cheer: for them you may want to post there and bump it up.

I think she's playing the role of a witch. B/S took on similar music for their FD maybe three years ago and were much less successful with it IMHO.

Very true. In that one particular aspect, she reminds me of Anjelika Krylova. Now, if Lorraine can straighten up a little bit through the shoulders and keep those shoulders from moving up by her ears, she will be a force to be reckoned with.

^Ikr? I wonder who can help her with that...
And I totally agree that she is like a mini Krylova!

The music of M/C's SD is Edvard Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King composed for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt (to be more exact, for a scene with trolls in it) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Hall_of_the_Mountain_King. Skaters have portrayed trolls in all on-ice programs to this music that I have seen. Lorraine and Quinn are also supposed to be trolls, of course.

Bobrova/Soloviev skated to Walpurgis Night from Charles Gounod's opera Faust, and she was supposed to be a witch indeed.

Thanks for the musical explanation. I'm hoping they (particularly Lorraine) can capture the theme of the music without the extreme expressions. Let the drama of the music and your skating tell the story. She does have a Krylova look!

I love Lorraine and her expression. I often think the most expressive female dancers are the ones who don't coast on "natural beauty;" but become characters every time they step out on the ice. Of course, I also think she and Quinn can and will expand their presentation for different styles of music.

But I also believe they know who they are and they played that to the hilt in this new SD. I mean, seriously, who sits down after hearing that the pattern dance is a waltz and says, "Let's be mountain trolls." LOL!

But they made believers out of me. Very much like Popova & Vlasenko, M&C just skated their wacky program to wacky music with total commitment. In fact, I think Quinn & Lorraine may just "out-Russian the Russians" this season.

M&C are nothing like the other teams on the U.S. dance scene. And that is exactly what it is going to take to stand out in this crazy-deep field.

Style. It's so difficult to develop, but without it, you just get lost in the pack. And the key to developing style is (indeed!) total commitment. So kudos to them.

There is one danger to this particular style: without the foundation of a good story-line or characters, this particular kind of drama can easily tilt into melodrama and camp. It's called "wretched excess" for a reason...

And it's good to be different. Gives something judges and the audience wants to see. It may help them to potential Olympic gold in 2022. Lol. I'm too far ahead of myself.
