This is the only photo I could find of Roman at today's (well, yesterday's considering that it's past midnight in my time zone) Finlandia Trophy practice: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DLaHMywWsAAOz1U.jpg

Out of curiosity, does anyone know which character is on his gloves? It appears to be the same pair that he wore during the 2017 Canadians LP practice video that I've shared earlier.

Here's Roman's SP from earlier today in case you don't feel like digging through the men's Finlandia SP thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZhE_vPY1R4

Not quite the outing he hoped for I'm sure, but at least he got the quad done. i had strong suspicion the 3axel wouldn't happen after the pop on the Lutz, and it didn't. :( I think his biggest challenge going forward is learning to refocus after an error and not let it impact the next element. Tall order for him for sure since he's such a perfectionist. So nice to see him again though. :) Looking forward to seeing his FP tomorrow!

Romans FS from today. Some mistakes but way better than yesterday. And I am proud of that 3A-2t(rippon). Go Roman, fight these axels!

I had tuned in for the Finlandia Trophy livestream, and it was so painful for me to watch Roman as an anemic vampire and a struggling warrior that I still haven't recovered emotionally. :sad4: Skate Canada won't be inclined to offer him another international assignment this fall, so this may be his sole outing on the world stage for a long while. :sad21: Well, if nothing else, at least he can say that he was the top Canadian man at this competition---I certainly didn't expect that he'd beat Kevin by almost 8 points.

Here a few pictures from the event:

I've learned that David Wilson had choreographed his LP, in case anyone else was curious.

 That first pic! Such nice face.

And don't feel sad my friend, that happens. :console: I am fan of many headcase skaters and used to be downhearted by such outings a lot. But it doesn't get us anywhere and doesn't help Roman. Cheering for him to do better next time and showing him that his fans won't let him down is the best thing a fan can do at this moment. (Learned at the pchan fan fest ;) )

And here's Roman with his niece: https://www.instagram.com/p/BaDnFa3APK3/ I didn't even know that he had at least one sibling; out of curiosity, does anyone know if he has brothers and/or sisters?

And his fluffy hair! :luv17:

Thanks for consoling me, Kuan; you're good at keeping my spirits up on this Fan Fest. :) I wish I could develop thicker skin so I don't get so affected when my favourites don't do well (which is often). It always takes a few days for me to get over it, and I'm okay now.

I'm guessing Roman's next competition will be Sectionals?

Roman plays "Parisienne Walkways" by Gary Moore on his guitar  : https://www.instagram.com/p/BaIxEX-gGb9/ He is truly a Renaissance man!

In addition to Jeff, Roman seems to look up to Yuzu as well; the latter's "Parisienne Walkways" SP may have influenced him to skate to Moore's "The Prophet."

The YRSA Brothers (Roman, Nam and Conrad) show off their interview in Figure Skate Life magazine, a Japanese publication:
.
I don't suppose there is a Japanese fan reading this thread who can help me get this magazine?
If all else fails, CDjapan ships all sorts of stuff from Japan - books, magazines, CD's, etc - internationally. (DVD's and Blu-rays too, but those are shockingly expensive to buy in Japan, compared to the same releases in other countries). They offer many shipping options, it can be quite cheap if you're prepared to wait and don't need insurance.

That particular magazine is listed HERE on the CDJapan site.

amazon.co.jp also ships internationally, but they don't seem so good at providing English descriptions for foreign customers, and I don't think there are so many shipping options.

There are other places too. Beware of rakuten though - no problems with their services, but I'd strongly advise using a "disposable" email address when dealing with them...!

Oh yes, please! Thank you so much for offering to translate the magazine article, gidongainsbourg1; it would mean a lot to me and other Roman fans who can't read Japanese. :)

Figure skating Life interview Roman's part

Note: There's almost no change in the content of this translation. But vocabulary and expression would be far apart from his own voice. (I tried to translate the atmosphere of this Japanese sentences though.) I appreciate your understanding.

Q: Please tell me about your new programs.
R: The short is "Vampire Masquerade" choreographed by Carol Lane and Juris Razguliaevs, the coaches Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier. The music is my mum's favorite. She found it in YouTube.
Q: I heard that you chose your FS music by yourself, right?
R: Yes. It's from "Sword Art On line". I've watched it several years ago. I often watch same movies over and over again. So last year I watched it again and I thought " Wow, this music is so great." so I chose this.
Q: Who's choreographer?
R: David Wilson.
Q: Which part do you think most important in your programs?
R: In free program it's the footwork at last part. That part describes the rule as a warrior, and it's most exciting part. Of course except the quads. And in the short program it's the same, footwork. Honestly I have so much fun with footwork . I can feel that I can play the rule in the story and I can translate it to the audiences.
Q: Does the free program have a story too?
R: Yes. (becoming more talkative) that anime is set in the future. They have special helmets. When you put it on your head you can go to the virtual world, video game world. Main characters go there on the released day of the game and then they found that there's no "log out " button. They have to fight to get away from there like "death game". So the first part of my program is the image of confusion. The characters were caught in a trap and they struggled with it. And in the middle there's pathetic(tragic/melancholic) part in which there's something romantic and in the end they would be free finally.
Q: How many quads and which quads do you plan in it?
R: Now I'm considering having two 4S and two 3A in free program. But I have a plan to add 4T in it. Last week I landed my first 4T. It was stepped out though. it's just a fresh-baked quad. I want to have two 4S and one 4T in FS until the end of this season.
Q: Do you have some preparations or routine work for your mental training?
R: I want to relax in any case. I used to put my headphone on to make myself isolated at competition. But I decided to take another way this season. Trying to be more relaxed, more open, to deal with the competition as usual like daily practice. I hope to enjoy it instead of being exhausted by stress.
Q: Do you have some precaution not to get injuries such as stretch or something?
R: Yeah, I'm doing those things. But I 'm more careful not to overwork. I do a few quads at each practice. But I pay attention to doing it with quality. You know, like me, body with long limbs are prone to injuries. So sometimes I don't do even one quad the whole day. I do triples. For me, If triples are good it would not be impossible to add one more rotation to it.
Q: Last year you came to Japan at JGP. Please give a message to Japanese fans.
R: Japanese fans were the best audience I've ever seen. It's a good thing there's a country where figure skating is so popular. I want to say thank you for loving figure skating as much as us.

end
