So, if you like Roman Galay, Anni Järvenpää or Juulia Turkkila you can write about it here.

For those who are interested in here are the national team of Finland.

There is also one very recent surprise addition, Liubov Efimenko who was planning to represent Poland in the future but who decided to stick with Finland after all. Here is an earlier thread and an recent article about it. The article is in finnish.

I'm still lamenting Kiira Korpi's retirement (and actually, Laura Lepisto's too!)...

...but there are many promising young Finnish skaters, hopefully some of them will make international breakthroughs.

I am glad Efimenko is still skating for Finland. I saw her at Finlandia last year - she showed a lot of potential, and took 2nd place in the short program.

Always liked Vallter Virtanen's skating too - I was very pleased when he became national champion for a 2nd time last season.

I'll be at Finlandia again this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing Galay, Jarvenpaa, and Lindfors, all of whom looked very promising in JGP events... plus my old favourites Virtanen, Karmi/Lindholm, and Turkkila (would love to see her perform her programs clean for once...!). And Korpi will be skating there in the opening ceremony too.

I too remember that very well. In that competition Rika Hongo was placed below her after SP. Liuba's FS wasn't as good as her SP but still she managed to be the best Finn at that competition.

For those who might be interested in, here is Liuba's SP at 2014 Finlandia.

Roman looks very promising. I am looking forward to see how he will progress in the future.

A lot of peeps say that they practice too much in younger years, but they also are in the spotlight so early that they burn out.

Its such a shame.

Team Finland did great at Tallin Trophy! :hap10: Congratulations to Cecilia Torn & Jussiville Partanen for third place. Their Free Dance :) Viveca Lindfors also did good on getting 4th place, but unfortunately there's no videos of her performance :scowl:

Yes, Lindfors continues to look very promising, and did well to climb to 4th overall - she was 8th after the SP.

(In the SP she popped her triple Flip to a double, zero points for that as it's an invalid element... and only level 2 for one of her spins...)

She looks to have stronger jumps and a more athletic physique than most of the other Finnish junior ladies... although she still seems to be running out of steam a bit, by the end of her senior-length free skates.

Definitely one to watch, especially if she gains the grace and elegance that so many of the Finnish ladies have.

PS video of the whole Ladies FS at Tallinn is still available right now -> HERE

But they don't seem to stay up for long, so watch/download quick, while you still can...

Karmi & Lindholm announce split

The Finnish Figure Skating Association posted this on their Facebook earlier today.

Olesia Karmi and Max Lindholm have decided to "end their ice dance career together".

They are both looking for new partners.

The wording is not easily translatable and it's ambiguous in that it doesn't say if they have split up and are looking for other partners, or if they're going to retire altogether. The first one seems unlikely since they are a couple off-ice as well, but you never know.

They have split up and they are looking for other partners.

I do not see any entry from Finland, for senior World's? Are Virtanen and Versluis both injured?

News - Turkkila & Versluis: Ice dancers!

http://www.hs.fi/urheilu/a1459394935161

I was reported today that Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis have teamed up and switched to ice dance. They have been practicing together for two weeks now.

The article is dated 31.3., so I doubt it's an April Fools, although that was my first reaction

Good luck to the new team!
