Simonen/Penasse scored 74.70 in their FS. Their TES was 37.37. Don't know when they are planning to start competing internationally but if they would start soon it wouldn't be out of the question that they could skate at the Euros or Worlds already this season.

It looks like Simonen/Penasse will skate at the Bavarian Open (Oberstdorf, GER) and at the Challenge Cup (Haag, NED).

Emilia Simonen / Matthew Penasse achieved minimum SP TES for Worlds yesterday. FS will be skated later today. Good luck. The minimum FS TES is 43 points.

By the way, the last time Finland had a pair competing at the Worlds was way back in 1983.

Yep, I am sure they will be there. Guys did a great job here, they even had the highest FS TES score here. They must be really thrilled now, because within about 5 weeks or so they will get to skate their 1st Worlds in front of their home audience. Well, maybe not in front of his home audience but hers anyway.

I believe Valtter Virtanen just cleared the LP TES for worlds at Bavarian Open. He got 64.90 and landed a fully credited 4T (with negative GOE). I believe it was his first quad in competition so kudos to him.

Yes, local federation sites tell that Virtanen has got it. And there is also said that Finland has now possibility to historical Worlds team, havin competitors in every category, if they will be selected. And I cannot see why they wouldn't do it, especially the when the WC is in Finland.

About the pair. It was their first international competition. Emilia Simonen was a single skater, but wanted to be a pair skater. She was looking gor a pair for a year. There was no pair in Finland, and she had to go abroad to find one. In nationals there was a pair last time 2003. Did you know Finland actually has olympic gold in pairs? Gold 1920 and silver 1924, Walter and Ludovika Jacobsson.

Viveca Lindfors is having healthy problems, so she does not know even herself if she will be able to compete this season. I think the word in english is arrtrhytmia.

Another edit, yes, it was Virtanen's first full rotated quad in competition.

Team Finland will be announced 28.02.

Emmi has withdrawn from Junior Worlds. Viveca will be skating there instead.

Haven't seen any comment about why Emmi has withdrawn but she probably wanted to concentrate on Senior Worlds.

Just checked Cessiville facebook and there is said there has been disappoitments, changes etc. What might have happened? But they are going to worlds anyway. Btw, what has happened to Karmi/Lindholm? Did they get frustrated after Turkkila/Versluis just beat them in they first competition ever and after that soon again in an international competition?

to #66: Maybe Sofia Sula is just concetrating on shcool. Read an article about her and she lives in a municipality almost 80 km north from Helsinki and her ice skating club is in Helsinki. It is respectable to be a top skater at national level in Finland if you come from a small municipality. She and Linnea Ceder, they might be a competitive pair like Kiira and Laura in the future. I like these young girls both very much.

I saw the post, too, but I didn't get the feeling that anything specific has happened? Maybe they're just talking about your regular everyday disappointments and surprises...

As for Karmi/Lindholm, I remember they had a fall during practice or warmup at a competition before Christmas and one of them was injured and subsequently had to take a few weeks off. If they keep going after this season, I will salute them for their bravery. It must be so hard, losing to the newbies after being one of the top teams for so many seasons.

I feel like I need to cheer for Linnea especially because she's from my old hometown

ETA Doh! Just realised they were talking about the decision to go back to last season's FD!

That awkward moment when someone asks Jussi to tell more about himself and he's like: oh god, who am I?

I haven't seen the interview she is referring to but I have seen some of their short interviews and I haven't noticed that he would have been particularly awkward.

Had the opportunity to train alongside this amazing pair team for a few days after our competiton. Good luck at Worlds Aljona and Bruno!

I don't know if Matthew is a big Barça fan but if he is then he must have had an extremely happy evening a couple of days ago.
