Juulia was born on 3 November 1994, in Helsinki, Finland.

Matthias was born on 18 July 1994 in Genolier, Switzerland. His mother is Finnish and his father is Dutch. The family moved to Finland when Matthias was 6 months old.

Turkkila and Versluis teamed up in April 2016.

Juulia and Matthias Versluis are the 2023 European bronze medalists and the 2022 GP Espoo bronze medalists. They are also the 2023 Finlandia Trophy and the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy champions.

Matthias was the 2011 Finnish National Junior and 2014 Finnish National Senior champion. He also won gold at the 2015 Golden Bear event.

They are coached by Maurizio Margaglio.

Thank you, tulosai. I also fell in love with Juulia's beautiful skating at today's finlandia trophy. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P2WVU78pDqI

Although the video was shot far away from the link in a low quality, it does not stop her from showing great flow, edge work, and interpretation. I cannot see her face, but her whole body expresses the music with elegance, poise, and ease.

Here is the link to her sp from yesterday, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mE1GPTsSOcI

Looking forward to seeing her soon.

Juulia is very polished skater and she finishes her movements very gracefully. She has just struggled with her jumps for years. She has tried to do 3Lo for couple of years but I don't know any competition she managed to do it cleanly. And she doesn't have 3Lz and 3F at all. I'm afraid she has no possibilities to get euro or world spot anymore because there are so many younger skaters who have the whole jumping package (Jenni Saarinen, Liubov Efimenko, Viveca Lindfors, Anni Järvenpää and even Emmi Peltonen) and who are so much stronger technically. She used to dance ballet for many years and you really can see it in her beautiful movements.

It's rumored that Juulia Turkkila has switched to ice dance and is now practicing with matthias versluis.

This will really be interesting. I did hear this just today from our skating commentator when watching ladies SP.
But Julia had two season with some injuries so i think this will be good decision.
Good luck hope to see them already in finlandia trophy in autumn.

Has anyone heard anything about these two? I think they are not signed up for Finlandia anymore?

They aren't. I don't know why, maybe because of slight injury or maybe they felt they weren't ready to make their international debut. They recently made their first public skate at the Helsinki Trophy but their programs weren't part of the official competition but rather a demonstration.

Anyway, they are still assigned to NRW Ice Dance (early November) and Tallinn Trophy (late November).

Turkkila/Versluis skated in a domestic competition yesterday and they looked better than I thought they would. Nicely done. Their score was about 127 points.

I agree... much better than I dared to hope, for a team made of singles skaters who only started Ice Dance together this year. And they look great together! I'm looking forward to seeing how they progress.

At 127 points they could be contenders for National Champions! (at Finlandia Trophy just gone, Jussiville-Partanen scored 126.93 and Karmi-Lindholm scored 101.02... although I don't expect those low scores to continue)

Well, I was searching for a thread, and ended up here. For those wondering, they competed the past weekedn at the NRW Trophy and I really liked them.
SD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-noHHBT32c
FD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI7LKNqAXiY

Both dances look solid, they are good together, nice lifts and spin, the twizzles need some work, but they are nice too. Even the step sequences being quite open are good right now. They surpassed K/L again, and if they keep on this rise they could be a threat for J/P.

I know this is two weeks' late, but I've been meaning to resurrect their Fanfest. This is the first season I watched them and I'm impressed. Looking back at their last season's programs to this season, the difference is night and day; he particularly seemed so stiff before. They have made great strides in the off-season, their dances are much more seamless and they look like dancers now. I think working with Shpilband and Camerlengo in the summer really helped. Now they are a well matched team, fluid with improved edge quality, both with great use of the arms (free dance especially), more commitment to the music and performance. They have a nice contrasting set of well-choreographed programs:

Their RD from Finlandia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8EUi6tkK5A
Their FD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TmhI23IO8M

They are debuting on the GP, at home, in two week's time.

They are in the top 10 after the RD, with a PB that is almost 5 points above their previous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-ieBth1gK0

Great performance overall. I really like their confidence and projection in the Midline step sequence and the speed and difficulty in their ending rotational lift. The Spanish commentators were wowed by their dance. If they stay in tenth place, or even move up after their free, which I also love, they can get two spots for Finland :).
