Dutch Figure Skater Niki Wories was born on 18 June 1996 in Almere, Netherlands.

Biography & Skating Style:

While most skaters in the Netherlands go for speed, Niki does also go for style and expression. The young lady who started skating at the age of two because of her sister Katja doing it, is no longer an unknown figure to the skating world. Especially her expression and feel for the music, adds a lot to her programs. Said programs, she kind of choreographed already when she was just a few years old, while accompanying her sister. Back then, Niki felt like being in a big game, adding her own jumps, steps or dance moves to the music of other skaters. Today however, Wories, is choreographed by Julie Marcotte.

Since her 9th year, until she was 19 years old, Niki practiced at the "Kunstrijvereniging De Drechtsteden" in Dordrecht. Since then she has trained in Montreal, Canada, first with Bruno Marcotte and his sister, Julie, and in 2019-20, with Nicholas Young and Ian Conolly.

In general, Niki is quite a fighter and wants to go big with everything she does. At eight years old, she wanted to practice all the jumps as doubles, and even today, she is still adding more difficulty to her programs all the time, which granted her the "award" Crash Pilot at Nebelhorn 2015, which is by no means meant to be rude, but more a compliment as she just never gives up.

Niki´s international career started in 2012, when she debuted on the international junior level at the Coupe du Printemps, followed by an assignment to her first ISU Junior Grand Prix event, the Volvo Cup in 2013. In January 2015, she became the Dutch national senior champion and was awarded with a ticket to Stockholm 2015, where she came 31 in the short. Followed by a small recovery, she came back and won the bronze medal at the Bavarian Open and International Challenge Cup, followed by the 23th place at the Junior Worlds in Tallinn.

In 2019-20, she is a six-time Dutch national champion, and has won five senior international medals and qualified for the free skate at three ISU Championships.

Lekker kunstrijden has a name, it´s Niki Wories.

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful weekend, I am so grateful for all that support... Today I will fly back to Canada to prepare for Boston ...

September 22, 2015

Yesterday evening, Niki, Willy and Greonne left with the night train towards Oberstdorf. To their surprise, the originally reserved seat´s were changed into beds! These beds were so good, that the ladies overslept their stop at Ulm and therefore had to travel all the way to Munich and change trains there.

She is quite a character I would say :)

I like reading her blog, always something to laugh there :D She is currently in Canada to practice with Bruno Mascotte. Her next competition will be the NRW Trophy, looking forward to it.

with Bruno Mascotte.
Please don't tell me you got that from that NOS.nl article (which has the exact same spelling mistake as above, it's Bruno MaRcotte, not Mascotte). ;)

Ugh, I'm still annoyed about that. The NOS are better than this, three mistakes in one small article. Hey, we can just go to Dordrecht for the NRW trophy!

It's nice to have another Dutch skater at international competitions, but I really hope she learns how to deal with her nerves.

I am just horrible with names :D

Sorry ;)

I got Julie right though, but ya - never trust a Dutch newspaper or video for that matter :D

So it´s not just a small stop in Canada then? How are they going to do the coaching if Julie and Bruno stay in Montreal? ;) I was guessing she has her coaching team in NL and just occasionally goes to Julie and her brother? If you know more, please say so ;)

The NOS article says that she'll be in Canada for five weeks, returns for the NRW trophy, and then the plan is to return to Canada, which will be her new 'home base'.

Oh wow this is a big change for her. I hope she will be able to improve as a skater by doing this as she clearly hopes to!

I only saw a video with Niki, where she mentioned her departure to Canada to practice there throughout the winter and also mentioned the better practice environment there as you have more ice and space, while at home it´s often very crowded. I did not read said article you mentioned, but I corrected it in the bio. ;) and read it now.

Thanks :)

Niki at Worlds II

Finally, I have some time for Niki ;)

To quote myself, from the report
It is a pity, that in the end only three can take the medals. But if we talk about medals today, then we also have to give medals to skaters, who will not end up on the podium. My first medal contender is Niki Wories and she is such a textbook athlete for me.

I admire, how passionate her skating is and that she can take all these falls and errors in practice and just deliver when it counts, at Worlds. While she got an edge call for her Flip, she did every element that she wanted to do and rightfully qualified for the Free with 49.86 points.

If I see this lady, then I see a fighter and a winner, she has the mentality of a superstar and I wish that she would teach a few of our German girls, a few things about dedication, presentation and joy. If you see her skate, then you see someone who want´s it so much more than many others, others who might have bigger names, or more titles under their belts.

I was very proud of her, the little crash pilot, who might soon need a new nickname, if she keeps skating so wonderful. Dank u wel, Niki! Dit wa het en grandioos.

I'm so glad that we already has a place for Niki and our GS searching tool is quite useful. I didn't realize the usefulness until today because when I searched, I didn't narrow down the category. Otherwise, I considered creating a fanfest for her.

Even though her jumps were not quite there yet at Worlds, she was quite a performer, so I enjoyed her programs a lot.
