First thing I have to point out. There have been changes made to the schedule for this Friday compared to what it said when I made out the Cup Of China post. Nothing to panic about though – all the TEB Shorts are still being shown LIVE. The changes are only affecting the early morning Cup of China repeats.

Second thing to point out. If you are on the continent, there is going to be an awful pile of switching channels between Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 this week! (Thankfully, in the British Isles, we are sticking to one channel per day! )

Third thing to point out. Except for the host country, all versions of Eurosport are showing LIVE coverage of all the Short Programmes. HOWEVER, only the Ladies Free and the Free Dance have LIVE coverage.

Eurosport Hungary, Italia and Nederland all have the same schedule this week.

Eurosport Deutschland is the same except that one of the Cup of China highlights programmes on Friday morning is missing, along with one of the gala highlights programmes on Monday morning. (There isn’t anything else scheduled at the times these are supposed to be on, so it is possible that it may just be a glitch on the website).

Given that this week’s Grand Prix is being held in France, you would expect Eurosport France to have the most coverage. In fact, it is the exact opposite – they have the least coverage!

On Friday, the Men’s SP and the 2 highlights programmes either side of it are not being shown, due to LIVE coverage of Rugby. As a result of not showing it LIVE, though, ESP France are showing the highlights of the Men’s SP an hour earlier than the other versions of Eurosport (although, it is also 15 minutes shorter, as there is more LIVE Rugby on after it!)

Thankfully for our French friends, the Men’s SP is the only casualty in terms of the LIVE coverage. But, the number of repeats is drastically reduced compared to elsewhere on the continent.

Well, I lie. Eurosport France doesn’t actually have the least coverage. British Eurosport does! HOWEVER, the difference is that we ARE getting the same LIVE coverage as the rest of the continent.

And for those competitions that are not being broadcast LIVE (i.e. the Men’s Free and the Pairs Free), there is the British Eurosport Player. Which, unlike last week, is showing EVERYTHING LIVE!!!!!! :cheer:

However, as we found during earlier events, the times in the Player schedule are well up the creek! :hopelessness:

This will be the last weekend that Universal Sports will be broadcasting figure skating and all other sports as they are shutting down on Monday.

Presumably NBCSN may be picking up CoR, NHK and the GP final (fingers crossed)?

Hopefully, since I get NBCSN, so maybe I'll get to see a little bit more on TV. *crosses fingers*

I am in Maine, so at least I'm fortunate to live in a part of the state that also gets CBC as a part of the regular TV package, so I at least have that TV coverage to fall back on, aside from what's shown on NBC.

Off topic, but I feel the need to post about it, as I am sure it is going to cause a lot of confusion.

During last week's Cup of China coverage, we were getting trailers for "The New Eurosport", which would be arriving on 13[SUP]th[/SUP] November. And I posted a comment in the Ladies SP thread in which I was getting worried as to what it might mean.

Well, we have now found out what it is. A rebranding.

You know how we have been referring to the main Eurosport channel for handiness as "Eurosport 1". Well, that name has now been made official.

Also, shock horror, there is a new logo. :eeking:

THEY HAVE DITCHED THE RING OF STARS!!!!  :palmf:

Like, the ring of stars WAS Eurosport!!! OK, so it may have changed colours a few times, but it was always there as a reassuring friend.

1989 logo
1993 logo
2011 logo

All that heritage. And now, they have this:

2015 logo

I know Discovery want to stamp their mark as new owners. But, sorry, this is going too far.

They already destroyed all the familiar brand identities on their own channels, either by simply re-designing logos, or by merging and re-naming the channels.

Discovery Channel: 1995 logo; 2008 logo
Animal Planet: 1996 logo; 2008 logo
Civilization: 1998 logo; 2003 logo, 2007 (Knowledge) logo, 2010 (History) logo
Home: 1997 (Home & Leisure) logo; 2003 logo, 2005 (Real Time) logo, 2011 logo
Health: 2000 logo; 2005 (Home & Health) logo, 2013 logo
Science: 1998 (Sci-Trek) logo, 2003 (Science) logo; 2008 logo, 2012 logo
Travel: 1998 (Travel & Adventure) logo; 2005 (Travel & Living) logo, 2008 logo

...Now they are doing the same with Eurosport!!!

BRING BACK THE RING OF STARS!!!

The Eurosport Apple player has been updated, too. Not seeing much difference except the aforementioned logos updates, and the channels now called E1 and E2 in the small logos.

HOWEVER, much more importantly, IMHO, is that not only is the ISU stream available this weekend, but it also reads in the TV schedule "Came too late? Want to catch up? Just go and visit our on demand video section."

That line most definitely was not there with previous ISU streams in the eurosport app.

Seeing as I *still* do not see an option to rewind the stream up to three hours into the past, AND that I will be unable to watch the FSs live tomorrow, I am desperate for the option to watch everything on demand late Saturday night (I did notice E2 will recap the two FS they do not air, but I much prefer a non-recap, especially since I would rather watch without commentary).

I miss the old familiar Eurosport logo too, but this newer logo is actually smaller and more translucent. I think it looks more modern and less distracting, I'll probably like it better once I've gotten accustomed to it. The only thing I don't particularly like is the red "LIVE" box, it's a bit of an eyesore.

I think it looks more modern and less distracting, I'll probably like it better once I've gotten accustomed to it. The only thing I don't particularly like is the red "LIVE" box, it's a bit of an eyesore.

Before I discovered illegal streams of the Eurosport International channels with English commentary, I used to watch ESP Deutschland all the time for things that British ESP wasn't showing. (ESP1 Deutschland is free to air on satellite).

ESP Deutschland had the old logo colour coded. Programmes that were being broadcast for the first time (be they LIVE or delayed) had the logo in colour. And programmes that were repeats or highlights of programmes that had previously been shown LIVE had a translucent version of the logo.

When BT Sport launched a couple of years ago, they adopted the same principle with their logo.

I never understood why British Eurosport never adopted the same colour coding principle as Eurosport Deutschland. Maybe it harks back to the days when British ESP had it's own logo. That logo wouldn't have looked right translucent.

For me, if Discovery did insist on having a Eurosport logo without the ring of stars, I would have preferred it to be one that used the colour coding principle.

And I totally agree about the "LIVE" with the red background. As I said in the Ladies SP thread, it sticks out like a sore thumb where it is at the moment in the middle of the screen. Either put it below the channel name like they had in the old logo, or else keep it on the same line, but put it after the channel name.

But, it is only the first day of the new look. You never know, they might still be experimenting, and there might be some fine tuning in the days to come.
