Could be both, in any case doctors as a rule want a patient to be free of an acute infection for this type of surgery, that's why I suspect it's a month away and not done now. We don't know what surgery exactly, it could be widening of nasal passages for example, but the goal of any surgery is to improve the flow from sinuses. It could be rather invasive, could have complications and might not work in the end so I for one do not blame Mika for not rushing into it in the spring/summer when he was feeling better, yes the second stay in hospital with another puncture was an indication but I guess their reckoning was that the first one didn't work because he didn't rest after as he should have done (heroics at RN - what's else to say) and that that time round with proper rest it would work.
I personally was in doubt about it the minute I heard that he went to Bali for a holiday. A month in a Black Sea heath resort specialising in treatment of this kind of condition might have done the trick but not a partying holiday with a jet lag, unfamiliar food etc...Understandably he wanted to enjoy himself, which is fair enough but a valuable time & opportunity for a recovery once again was missed
Now I think the only sensible thing he could do is to cut his losses so to speak , and say a goodbye to this season. The surgery will do nothing if he rushes back to training he needs at least 2 months after that. I do hope he understands that.
I myself feel like for me too, the season is over before it even started - first the news that there will be no figure skating on BESP anymore, at least on the TV - the end of the era! and then Mika's illness...I just can't get into a mood and haven't watched any comps yet
Actually spending a month in a warm place is kinda good for his heath, especially before the surgery.
And since I heard another rumor that his wife is pregnant, so maybe they wanna celebrate their coming baby and went on their second honey moon this year, who knows.
