Pairs competition at Bratislava is going to become very exciting.
Four Top Pairs: V/T, S/K, K/S, S/M
Four Second-class Pairs: J/C, DM/G, V/B, M/H

Pairs´SP ist probably the most conservative competition in figure skating: no quads allowed, no jump combinations and almost no freedom to choose elements.

What is going to happen with the Top Pairs based on the results of this season? What is the most probable scenario?


1. Volosozhar/Trankov: great and high 3Tw4 and 3S, slightly two-footed 3FTh, fast and sure lift and steps, only level 2 or 3 at DS, slow Spin.
high - very high PCS, fast and masterly, maybe till 10.00, high GOE
key-point: 3FTh
TES: 42 PCS: 37,5 Score: 79,5

2. Stolbova/Klimov: tight 3Tw2, perfect 3T, maybe unclean 3FTh, very strong lift, DS, lift and steps
high PCS, high-class interpretation,
sometimes little errors in SP
TES: 41 PCS: 37 Score: 78

3. Savchenko/Massot: monsterous 3Tw3, two-footed 3FTh, nice 3T, big lift and sure DS, normal spin and steps
good PCS, little slow and weak transitions, good interpretation, high GOE
best but telegraphed technic
TES: 41 PCS: 34 Score: 75

4. Kavaguti/Smirnov: tight 3Tw3, normal 3T, good 3LoTh, good lift and steps, slow spin, DS level 4?
good-high PCS, nice program with highlights in choreography,
error-prone pair, key point: 3T
TES: 39 PCS: 35 Score: 74

Really looking forward to this competition. I only discovered yesterday that it doesn't start till Friday afternoon, normally Pairs is first up, I wonder why they decided to change the schedule? I'm disappointed to see that first, my favourites K/S and today S/K have pulled out through injury. It will be interesting to see how S/M skate here, with the original Russian team I wouldn't have had them on the podium but now I expect to be there.

It will be interesting to see which of the Italian teams place higher. DM/G came here as Italian champions so M/H come here with a point to prove, I really like DM/G's programme this year and I don't like M/H's disco free. The French pair of J/C could challenge for the podium. Did another team withdraw? The field is now down to 16, it was initially 17, at least everyone gets to skate their long programme now.

Does anyone know why Fancy and Boyadji aren't here?

At least they tried to keep it together. Sadly, the UK is out of pair teams AGAIN!
Hopefully, both Chris and Amani find new partners soon.

The Good (or sad) news is that since there are only 16 pair teams competing now, no one will be cut out.

About Fancy/Boyadji, at least they didn't split in the middle of the competition this time...

Ugh Klimov why do you do this to me....this was the pair I was most excited about! Ksenia will be giving him glares and fans won't be able to see them....

They are in Bratislava and practicing. So far so good!

Aljona will skate, according to german news. It seems the practice went okay, and the injury is nothing serious, even if painful. She's a fighter!

Aliona will skate tomorrow. :hap93:The last practice session was good. She is a real survivor.

But the starting order is a little disadvantage for both German teams. Am I the only person who thinks that V/T do always have luck with their placement concerning their SP starting order? But maybe I have a persecution complex:dev3:

Probably geoblocked, but maybe of use to someone. Also, I've forgotten to mention re the other links, that the good thing for those who can access them, is that the programs are archived for one year after broadcast, so can be watched later as well.
