Yes I am sooooooo disappointed. Honestly this must be crushing for them. I frankly and honestly don't know why they were allowed by their government/skating federation to compete for the spot if the government just wasn't going to allow them to go anyway.

Agreed. I can only hope the government decided later, because allowing them to compete for the spot knowing they wouldn't be allowed to use it is unspeakably cruel. My heart breaks for them--out of all the withdrawal news on the boards yesterday, this one hit the hardest. They seem like such a sweet and hard-working team and they definitely deserve to be able to use the spot they so rightfully earned.

...because it's North Korea and they wanted to demonstrate how much they despise the "Olympics for Peace" idea?

It looks like they are using a wild card option, so Japan will not lose their spot. Good news all around, I hope.

Does anyone know whether they can/will compete in the team event for South Korea? After all, they are marching together.

If they did, I'm sure that would be a HUGE political statement. I can't see that happening. But then on the other hand even the marching together part is suprising as hell to me.

Politics aside, I'm very happy that this team earned their spot and now get a chance to compete as well. This is good news!!

Fans should check out the above thread and article :)

They are first pair from either North or South Korea to medal in an ISU Championship, and the first pair not from China, US, or Canada to medal at 4CCs!

I know they have to be disappointed with their FS, but they are so young a pair!
Here's their FS:

Wishing them all the best at the Olympics!

And their SP at 4CCs was just so enjoyable!!

I am truly overjoyed for them! I feel like they have a lot stacked against them in some ways (as all the Oly drama proves) and it's really wonderful that they've been able to accomplish this! Even without a lot of the 'top' teams here this really is rather groundbreaking for them!

In view of their upcoming participation in two GP events (GP Helsinki and GP Internationaux de France) I have updated their OP. It was last edited in 2016, so there was a lot of data missing about their last two seasons and the current one. In August they participated in the CS Asian Trophy and terminated 2nd (out of two pairs). I hope you'll enjoy finding all the information regarding their programs, results, videos and other stuff in one place. Good luck in the GP circuit!

In case any of you were curious about the CBC commentary for their GP Helsinki LP, it's at the 0:46 mark (the password is pairs): https://vimeo.com/296555439 Their SP wasn't broadcast on Canadian television.
