A note for those that are playing the Junior ISU Championships Predictions Game

The members of the teams will not be announced until after the individual competitions are finished, because the make-up of the teams is based on the results of the individual competitions.

Since there will be at most 2 full days between the announcement of the teams and the team competitions being held, there will not be much time to research predictions (especially since 4 Continents will be on at the same time).

Consequently, the YOG Team Trophy will be a non-scoring round of the Junior Predictions Game.

There will be a separate Predictions Thread for the YOG Team Trophy, but there is no point creating the thread until after the individual competitions are finished.

So, I hope this cllarifies things.

So no ladies' medalists at all, but 14th and 15th place are invited? Color me confused...this seems so random (I know there's an explanation of the selection process somewhere here, but it still seems bizarre). Though at least if Maria can't make up her deficit in the FS, she can hopefully redeem herself here.

I'm glad that we have NOC to be able to get a medal to those skaters, who have no chance to do it in solitary competitions.

There is a certain structure that is the basis for what appears to be madness -- but what I don't like is that the teams inherently are structured to be unequal in strength.

Based on placements in the individual disciplines, skaters from each discipline are divided into three groups, with Group 1 having the top placements, and Group 3 having the bottom placements.

Team 1 = Group 1 man + Group 3 lady + Group 2 pair + Group 1 dancers.

Team 8 = Group 2 man + Group 2 lady + Group 3 pair + Group 2 dancers.

How is that fair??? :(

How the teams are structured is explained on page 3 of this document:

competitors for NOC are random selected(in a fair way so that each team has similar capability).

And I just don't the point of this ....

Well ... not necessarily "fair" and "similar" -- unless one is willing to stretch the definitions of those words.

Per the example that I gave above, the official rules specify that the man, pair, and dance couple on Team 1 all will have higher YOG placements than their counterparts on Team 8. (Only the lady on Team 1 will have a lower YOG placement than her counterpart on Team 8.)

To me, that kind of built-in imbalance is not very "fair" or "similar."

ETA, a hypothetical draw that would be within the realm of possibility, according to the rules:

Team 1: 1st place man + 12th place lady + 4th place pair +1st place dance couple

Team 8: 11th place man + 11th place lady + 10th place pair + 8th place dance couple

ETA, the real draw indeed resulted in teams of dissimilar strengths:

Team 1: Aliev (3rd place man) + 12th place lady + Rose/ Goodpaster (6th place pair) + 3rd place dance couple

Team 8: Bannister (9th place man) + 10th place lady + Kim/Kim (8th place pair) + 6th place dance couple

By the way, it there an error on the list because according to the list there will be no ladies medalist at the team event!!! How could that be?? If that is the case then there are some really ridiculous rules involve.

None of this makes any sense? :scratch2: :scratch2: They really should have a re-think of the whole structure here, because in its current form it's kinda ridiculous.

I don't think it is an error.

The rules designate that only two ladies out of the top five will be assigned to teams in the mixed event.

ETA, to elaborate:
Group 1 ladies are the top five ladies.
Per the rules, only Team 3 and Team 6 get Group 1 ladies.

This is totally ******** BS rules. Men got 3 skaters from TOP 5 but the ladies only got 2 skaters from TOP 5. That is totally ridiculous.

Because the rules are not even-handed, it is not surprising that Teams 1, 3, and 7 would look the most promising.

The rules specify that those teams each would be allotted two Group 1 entries:
For Team 1, the man and dance couple
For Team 3, the lady and pair
For Team 7, the man and dance couple

And that Teams 2, 4, 5, and 6 each would be allotted only one Group 1 entry.

And that Team 8 would be allotted zero Group 1 entries.

I'm rooting for Team 8 .
