Although it was posted on FSU that Abachkina and Alexey have broken up i think that is probably not correct.

So Igor Shpilband and Pasquale Camerlengo have teamed up. Maybe Team Igor could be changed to Igor/Pasquale ?

I was surprised to hear Igor Shpilband team has been practically dissolved after the Olympics. So many teams, including his no. 1 duet Madison and Evan, decided to work with other coaches or split while Greg and Fabian also decided to try somewhere new. It seems Fabian has just started coaching on his own in France and Greg joined other coaching team in the U.S. After Krylova and Camarlengo split Pasquale has joined his forces with Igor and a completely new coaching tandem seems to be emerging from ashes. Such drastic changes immediately after the Olympics are probably nothing new, but I think what has happened with Igor's old team is quite devastating. Any ideas or insider news why has such a situation occurred? It seems as if all of a sudden all those people came up with the idea that Igor was not "good enough" for them and that they would not start winning under him. Of course, better to make coaching changes at the beginning of the new quad, but still, this situation is what has surprised me most among the coaching teams this off season.
Irrespective of everything, I hope Igor and Pasquale's union will bring them a lot of success and that in the near future we will see their teams winning medals at major ISU events.

Nothing so dramatic really happened to Igor. It's just that Lauzon is a superior technical coach and Marie France and Haggie are also no slouches in the choreoraphy department. They have created a winning formula that has eclipsed Igor and whatever stand-in he had for Marina. He and Marina together did great things but unfortunately they weren't able to keep the fire burning. He needed someone of equal abilities to replace her. Carmelengo, may just be his ticket. Let's see this new beginning could be good for them but they are in desperate need for new talent. Cest la vie.

It doesn't really seem like all Igor's teams left him for other coaches or anything. Abachkina/Thauron and Min/Gamelin both split, and Mansourova/Ceska apparently did too. Nazarova/Nikitin went back to the Ukraine because of funding issues IIRC. And Coomes/Buckland aren't competing this GP with anyone (maybe retiring?). So of all his senior teams that I can think of, only Chock/Bates and Nazarova/Nikitin went to other coaches as intact teams, and it didn't sound like it was really N/N's choice. Were there any other senior teams who left?

American coach Igor Shpilband told Anatoly Samokhvalov how divinely talented his junior couple of Vietnamese American are Avon Nguyen and Ukrainian Vadim Kolesnik, how attractive Alexander Stepanov is and what Nikita Katsalapov’s dance resembles a true Argentine tango, which is not at all Yablochko.
In Virchus and Moira talent, at Nguyen and Kolesknika, too

- Igor, do you agree that the best of ice dancing was gathered in Montreal by Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon, and all the other coaches are in pursuit of them?
- Of course. There are top rated couples.

- Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Sizeron work in this group, the uniqueness of which is widely recognized. Tessa Virchu and Scott Moir came to her already in the status of Olympic champions. What is the Montreal team better than you, Marina Zueva, your Russian colleagues?
- Hard to say. The guys work very well, they have a very good school, where great athletes are gathered. In my opinion, it is better to train in a strong group.

- That is the factor of the presence of the leaders Papadakis and Sizerona ...
- ... it is very important, yes.

- You should have become a pair of Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates. But went to other specialists. Where did the crash happen?
- Several unsuccessful starts - and it all broke. Errors in the World Championships especially affected, and it is impermissible to make mistakes in the World Championships in modern realities in dancing.

- When they leave a coach like Shpilband, does it have a strong effect on psychology?
- Not in this case. I've invested so much in Madison with Evan.

- So now should be an insult to them.
- You see, athletes must try everything, they must go through everything. I absolutely sincerely wish them all the best.

- But surely you told them something like "guys, we haven't said everything yet"?
- Of course, not all. But as a specialist, it seems to me that they should use this chance and try to ride in a group with stronger athletes. It's hard to be leaders.

- Is there a feeling that everything started for you from scratch again?
- Everything is much simpler than you think. I do what I like. I've been doing this all my life. I grow athletes. Like Tessa and Scott, who came to me when they were 14-15 years old. Then came Avonli and Vadim (Nguyen / Kolesnik), Christina Carreira with Anton Ponomarenko (Anthony Ponomarenko, American figure skater, son of the Soviet Olympic champion in 1992, Sergey Ponomarenko - comment). I adore my business. But it could not be that for 30 years of my coaching career I would have only solid stars. The whole story develops in a spiral, you can not always be at the top. In the world in general, the level of dancing on the ice is growing, there are a lot of good couples both at the junior level and at the adult level. In Russia, the dances also added on all levels.

- In Russia, success is measured by four-year Olympic cycles.
- We have the same.

- What is the task set for the Olympic Games of 2022? Whom does Igor Shpilband intend to take to Beijing?
- I grow up Avon with Vadim, I think that this is a very talented and unusual couple. Behind them the future. Christina and Anton (Carreira / Ponomarenko) also have a chance to join the team at the Olympics. This is also their goal.

“But you especially believe in Nguyen and Kolesnik?”
- Each pair has its strengths and weaknesses. In Avon and Vadim there is a lot of things that are not in other couples. Their skating touches some kind of human strings, which not every athlete is capable of either at the junior or adult levels. This is very rare, but it is felt from the inside. Words are hard to explain. These two people have something from god. Well, how to explain skating Tessa and Scott? I can say the same about Avon with Vadim. Talent.

- Who is the world's leading informal leader in this talent and feelings?
- I can not say.

- Are Papadakis and Sizeron the leaders for the coming years or is it impossible to talk about them so confidently?
- I am always very wary of looking into the future, it is easier for me to tell about the past.

- Do you like the French?
- Yes, they like it, they have a lot of strong qualities - a great horse, great lines, a kind of plastic, they express music very sensually. Not to say that they convey the relationship between a man and a woman in their dance, of course, there is no one between him and Tessa and Scott, but it’s very difficult to compete with them. But they have something to develop.

- Which of the Russian couples impresses you most?
- And Stepanova / Bukin, and Sinitsina / Katsalapov added very much compared to last year. Sinitsina and Katsalapov have a great rhythm dance. For me, this is the best rhythm-dance this season in the world of those couples that I’ve seen.

- Better than Papadakis and Sizerona?
- For me, yes.

- Well, tango, where you need passion and love, probably not at all for the French?
- Tango is a very subtle dance. It is not necessarily always passion and love. But it is always very difficult to convey to the public the essence of the plan. I think Nikita succeeded.

- Due to what?
- They have a style, and they have a relationship with Vika in the dance.

- Your colleague Oleg Epstein said that Katsalapov lacks emotions.
- Emotions? You see, the Argentine tango is not the “Apple”. This is a completely different emotion. It is difficult to make it subtle, otherwise it will not be done. And with Sinitsina and Katsalapov, the tango is absolutely correct. Believe me, I once studied the Argentine tango very seriously. I was lucky to work with very serious specialists in this form, and I just express my opinion.

- Shinitsina admires you, if you consider what she has experienced for all these years, when she was constantly compared with Elena Ilinykh?
- Almost all athletes go through this, not all Vika fell on one Vic. How many poor Meryl Davies had heard enough that she is none, and Charlie White is so wonderful! Nothing, after all they became Olympic champions.

- Meryl was a cool “Scheherazade” at the Olympic Games in Sochi.
- Yes, and eventually everyone saw it. Because if a person has character, he will achieve his goal. Not always your opportunities are visible to everyone as on the surface.

- Stepanova and Bukin in which their details better than the rest?
- I like them very much. And the girl is very unusual. Very beautiful, moving very emotionally, strongly. Her lines are very beautiful.

- Is there love in their programs?
- Well, what am I, a specialist in love?

- Yes, that's why I ask.
- They have a great couple that performs great programs, but they are not about love. But why love? They have a completely different blues attitude, all of their programs are not built on love, because the coaches see their strengths and use them.

- If you do not take into account Papadakis and Sizerona, who is still a higher level - Stepanova / Bukin, Sinitsina / Katsalapov or Madison Hubbell / Zachary Donohue?
- Now it is impossible to draw a conclusion about this, we see what an interesting struggle is unfolding between them. Russian couples had a chance to win even in the Grand Prix Final.
